Procedures:
PREP: Use painter's tape to tape a white piece of watercolor paper to a larger piece of paper. Write the students' names on each piece of paper, under the tape and on the larger paper. This will create a nice border on the finished piece and also give the kids a guide for painting their lines.
1. Read The Straight Line Wonder by Mem Fox and use this presentation to discuss LINE with the students.https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1IXLzQ2hGjl-CI9yEXjho5oWzrUMvzhSQ4W7JQJHo8TU/edit#slide=id.p
2. Demonstrate how to paint using a little bit of paint on the brush's "hair" and "tickle" the paper. Tell the students to paint their lines from tape line to tape line in different directions.
3. Work time.
4. Next class, discuss color and how to use a color wheel. Ask the kids to use primary colors to paint between the lines they painted last class.
5. Demonstrate how to use care and craftsmanship to paint with more than one color. Demonstrate how to clean the brush in the water, dab on a papertowel, and paint with a new color.
