PURPOSE: Tests provide an introduction to the discipline of Western Dressage; the horse performs only at the walk and jog. The rider should demonstrate correct basic position, use of basic aids, and understanding of the figures. The horse should show relaxation; and harmony between horse and rider is important. The horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider. The jog should be a natural gait within the horse's scope and should demonstrate a swinging back.RIDER #9240

very nicely turned out pair, a very well positioned rider with much potential! I appreciate the snaffle bit and no spurs. Extra feedback: first off practice your halts first impression is important. Your halts are worth at 20 percent of your score and in some tests more. Have someone spot you from the ground to help square your horse if you dont have mirrors. Practice halts throughout your every day rides and end your rides at x with a square halt then dismount when the horse gets it right, and reward with treats if you can,,,if you are still having trouble dismount and square your horse from the ground like in a showmanship pattern. Also your horse is very busy with its mouth , I like the snaffle you are using, check to see the bit is correctly fitted and your horses teeth have been floated, with a busy mouth it makes the horse appear not willing, unhappy and lacks harmony. Looking at your leather chin strap, looks a bit tight and needs to be properly positioned thru the keepers. Work towards a supple clear bend from head to tail not just in the neck through your turns corners and circles, think of a banana your horse needs to be in the shape of a banana, not 2 x 4 plank. You have a lovely quiet vertical riding position , however try to achieve riding more through your seat and seat aids helping your horse to swing more thru its back. I hope that helps, Western Dressage and Dressage is a long journey , and you never stop learning :)
