The Green Gold Mine: Your resource guide to finding zero waste options in your city.
4
5
Woohoo! Welcome to the Green Gold Mine, a list by and for people who are trying to live enivronmentally- and socially-conscious lives (and who are helping their communities to do so as well). We are the Unpackaged Coalition, a movement by people around the world to drastically change consumer culture and move towards zero waste lifestyles and societies.
This list started as a convenient way to keep track of zero-waste-friendly stores and options in different places. We invite you to grow this list, add your city, add new categories if you think something is missing, and challenge us on this.

FAQ
8
9
Who is this for?
10
Anybody who cares about people and the planet.
11
12
How does it work?
13
Just go the "All Cities" tab and click on your city to find zero waste resources and options. Feel free to add categories, comments, vendors. If your city's not there, add it!
14
15
How do I add a city?
16
Double-check the list on the tab "Cities". Can't find yours? Then go to the tab "New City", duplicate it, rename it (right-click) and just fill in the cells with your local tips! And receive the community's eternal gratitude!
17
18
How do I add a category?
19
First, make sure that the category you're thinking of is not already in the list. If not, then ask yourself if this category can fit at least 10 items. If it does, then scroll down to a blank row, name the category in column A and just fill in the other columns with your information.
20
21
How do I add a product?
22
First, make sure that the product you're thinking of is not already in the list. If not, then click on a row number in the category you're looking at, right-click, insert a row, and fill in the information about your product.
23
24
How do I add a vendor?
25
First, make sure that the vendor you're thinking of is not already in the list, probably in another category. You can search by typing "Ctrl + F" (or "⌘ + F" for Mac). If not, then click on a row number in the category and product you're looking at, right-click, insert a row, and fill in the information about your vendor.
26
27
Can a vendor be in two different categories?
28
Yes, but only once per category.
29
30
What is Tier?
31
We developed an informal "Tier" system to help direct our purchasing decisions. A Tier 1 product is almost entirely zero waste. Tier 2 is for products very consciously produced but not quite zero waste. Tier 2 is especially useful for products considered important but hard to find in Tier 1, such as sunscreen. There's no Tier 3 listed for cities because we believe that EVERY business should be a Tier 2 business and want to create the demand to make this vision a reality :)
