About this Database

This database provides a shared space for psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, and other practitioners in Belgium who work with clients in ways that have a psychotherapeutic impact. It recognises the diversity of over 400 psychotherapeutic approaches worldwide that have demonstrated scientific effectiveness, and values collaboration as beneficial both for professionals and the wider community. The project is inspired by the structures of the UKCP (UK) and the APA (USA) and is run voluntarily by therapists, for therapists and clients. Entries are self-declared and managed directly by members, who may update or delete their information at any time. The Register does not verify credentials.

Important Notice & Disclaimer

This is an inclusive directory. Listing here does not constitute official recognition or legal authorisation to use the protected title of psychotherapist in Belgium. Since 2016, Belgian law restricts the use of the title psychotherapist to psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors (with appropriate training), and certain practitioners covered by transitional measures. Clients are strongly advised to verify a practitioner’s status via official government sources: 1) FPS Public Health Register — for confirmation of professional recognition of psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychotherapists; 2) BCE Public Search (KBO) — to check whether a practitioner is legally registered as a business/professional activity in Belgium, and under which legal activity (NACE code). The activity “psychotherapy” can only appear if the person holds the required legal recognition. If “psychotherapist” is not indicated, the person is not legally recognised to use the title in Belgium. Each practitioner is solely responsible for the accuracy of their credentials. This site declines any responsibility for false self-representation.
