9920218777406531115676697103$aEl canto del colibri :$ba documentary.\\$aMuch like the seldom-heard song of the hummingbird, the voices of Latino fathers are rarely heard in addressing LGBTQ issues. This film aims to amplify their voices.. ?El Canto del Colibri,? is a story of Latino fathers dealing with issues of immigration, faith, marriage equality, machismo, culture, and the process of their LGBTQ children coming out. Responding to requests from ?Tres Gotas de Agua? audiences around the world, the filmmakers are taking this journey by inviting Latino men to speak frankly about delicate and deeply personal topics. This film will address political issues about LGBTQ families, social oppression, shared responsibility and acceptance of LGBTQ people as members of Latino families.. The filmmakers will bring you real stories, Latino immigrant fathers{u2019} stories, with interviews and interactions with family members, and their everyday lives in their communities as a background. Using spectacular cinematography of our colorful Latino communities around the country, the filmmakers intend to expose different points of view and help spur the development of powerful dialogue in our communities. This film seeks to fight isolation and build bridges of hope and solidarity among our Latino fathers, their families and community activists.\0$aLGBTQ+ people.

It was a hot summer day in 2004. I had travelled back from the "big city" where I was attending university to visit my family. This was my first summer away from home. At that moment, my family and I sat in the parking lot of a diner, having just finished breakfast at a local greasy spoon-a ritualistic send off before I started my four-hour return drive. In those moments, our car felt unusually cramped. My dad was in the back seat with me, my mom and brother in the front. I didn't have much of an appetite that morning knowing that in mere minutes, I would come out to my family as gay. On our way out of the restaurant, walking to our separate cars, I somehow managed to muster up the courage to tell my family there was something important I wanted them to know. So, there I was, in the backseat of the car with a message for my family. Looking back on it, the message was more like an ultimatum. They could learn to love this new version of me, as I had done, or our routine "see you later" might be a "goodbye." This is the beginning of my story-both my coming out story and, in some ways, my life story. Thankfully, my family is still an important part of this story"--$cProvided by publisher.;\\$a"This volume describes a broad array of culturally sensitive research methods in psychology, addressing diverse issues such as implicit bias, identity development, trauma, and racism. Each chapter provides instructive value for those who want to effectively employ these methods, as well as deep reflection on the meaning of various methods for understanding complex psychological phenomena. The methods discussed include various interview methodologies, digital tools, use of media representations, exposure to positive exemplars, survey and experience sampling, and participatory action research. These topics and methods are arranged across three sections: methods that are meant to describe culture and cultural phenomena, methodologies designed to facilitate awareness of structural bias and inequity, and a section on broad, overarching issues, such as the colonial harm inflicted by scientific research, diversity in open science, and intersectionality." -- Publisher's description\0$aSexual minorities.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2004003385

991435210910653195238477600$aPhyllis Lyon and Del Martin :$bbeyond the Daughters of Bilitis.\\$aPhyllis Lyon and Del Martin, lesbian organizers for civil rights, civil liberties, and human dignity, pioneered the modern lesbian and feminist movements. They founded the Daughters of Bilitis, one of the most important early lesbian organizations, in 1955. Lyon and Martin were also instrumental in forming and shaping related social movements, including the contemporary women's rights movement. These women helped bring hidden issues of violence against women and within families into public view; ensured the open involvement of LGBT people in electoral politics; and challenged censorship at local, state, and national levels. This collection covers the extensive work of Lyon and Martin in social movements for the advancement of the rights of women and sexual minorities--specifically, their work for, and leadership of, the LGBT movement and the modern women's rights movement both in San Francisco and across the United States. Their work illuminated issues such as police violence against gay youth, discrimination against LGBT persons in employment, enlightened responses to the victims of the AIDS crisis, and the backlash against affirmative action. A variety of materials in the collection, such as meeting minutes, notes, press clippings, reports, mailing lists, correspondence, and memoranda, showcase their work with the ACLU, the San Francisco Coalition for Human Rights, the Commission on Crime Control and Violence Protection, the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, and the San Francisco Human Rights Commission.\0$aSexual minorities.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2004003385

991426356310653195238464704$aThe Homophile movement :$bpapers of Donald Stewart Lucas, 1941-1976.\\$aThis collection documents the activist and professional activities of Donald Stewart Lucas, a central figure in the 1950s and 1960s homophile (gay civil rights) movement in San Francisco. The materials in this collection showcase the homophile movement and the manifestation of antipoverty measures in predominantly gay areas of San Francisco. Lucas became acquainted with the gay-rights oriented Mattachine Society in 1953 and quickly achieved a position of leadership in the organization, alongside Harold (Hal) Call. The Lucas papers include a nearly complete set of meeting minutes of the Mattachine Society coordinating council, annual meetings of the national organization, and conventions, including notes on the two conventions in 1953 that witnessed a change in the leadership of the organization. The Mattachine Society correspondence not only documents the function of the organization, but also provides first-person accounts of the lives of gay people in the 1950s and 1960s. The collection also contains the records of Pan-Graphic Press (cofounded by Lucas and Call in 1954) and the Mattachine Review, including correspondence with authors and documentation of the business finances. Rare and original Pan-Graphic Press publications, including Helen Branson's The Gay Bar (1957), can be found here as well.\0$aGay liberation movement.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85053580

Its holdings include clippings, flyers, brochures, conference materials, reports, correspondence, and other documents not generally available in libraries. Although important documents encompass earlier periods, the bulk of the collection focuses on the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. This collection is made up of more than 1,700 subject files. Documents about lesbian history begin with the Middle Ages, focus on the 1970s, and extend to the 2000s. Materials in the collection document political participation, lesbian and gay civil rights issues during the 1970s and 1980s, and specific demonstrations and rallies. Numerous items are devoted to specific legal cases or issues related to the legal system, such as prisons. Others focus on bias, homophobia, and hate crimes. The collection also provides perspectives on issues not directly involving lesbian rights, such as the women's liberation movement, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the anti-nuclear movement.\0$aLesbians.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85076160

What exactly is sexual attraction and what is it like to go through life not experiencing it? What does asexuality reveal about gender roles, about romance and consent, and the pressures of society? This accessible examination of asexuality shows that the issues that aces face - confusion around sexual activity, the intersection of sexuality and identity, navigating different needs in relationships - are the same conflicts that nearly all of us will experience. Through a blend of reporting, cultural criticism, and memoir, Ace addresses the misconceptions around the 'A' of LGBTQIA and invites everyone to rethink pleasure and intimacy. Journalist Angela Chen creates her path to understanding her own asexuality with the perspectives of a diverse group of asexual people. Vulnerable and honest, these stories include a woman who had blood tests done because she was convinced that 'not wanting sex' was a sign of serious illness, and a man who grew up in a religious household and did everything 'right,' only to realize after marriage that his experience of sexuality had never been the same as that of others. Disabled aces, aces of color, gender-nonconforming aces, and aces who both do and don't want romantic relationships all share their experiences navigating a society in which a lack of sexual attraction is considered abnormal. Chen's careful cultural analysis explores how societal norms limit understanding of sex and relationships and celebrates the breadth of sexuality and queerness."--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aAsexual people.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000237

Normal Cruelty: Child Beatings and Sexual Violence -- 4. From Fragile Solidarities to Burnt Sexual Subjects: At the Institute of Sexual Science -- 5. Lives That Are Spoken For: Queer in Exile -- Coda.\\$a"Influential sexologist and activist Magnus Hirschfeld founded Berlin's Institute of Sexual Sciences in 1919 as a home and workplace to study homosexual rights activism and support transgender people. It was destroyed by the Nazis in 1933. This episode in history prompted Heike Bauer to ask, Is violence an intrinsic part of modern queer culture? The Hirschfeld Archives answers this critical question by examining the violence that shaped queer existence in the first part of the twentieth century. Hirschfeld himself escaped the Nazis, and many of his papers and publications survived. Bauer examines his accounts of same-sex life from published and unpublished writings, as well as books, articles, diaries, films, photographs and other visual materials, to scrutinize how violence--including persecution, death and suicide--shaped the development of homosexual rights and political activism. The Hirschfeld Archives brings these fragments of queer experience together to reveal many unknown and interesting accounts of LGBTQ life in the early twentieth century, but also to illuminate the fact that homosexual rights politics were haunted from the beginning by racism, colonial brutality, and gender violence"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aSexual minorities$xViolence against$xHistory.

Methods of the study.\\$a"Personal but Not Private explores how queer women share and maintain their identities through digital technologies despite overlapping technological, social, economic, and political concerns. Focusing on representations of sexual identity through Tinder, Instagram, and Vine, Stefanie Duguay uncovers how queer women are continuously engaging in identity modulation, or the process through which people and platforms adjust or modify personal information, to form relationships, increase their social and economic participation, and counter intersecting forms of oppression. This book also considers the implications of identity modulation for a broader range of people negotiating digital contexts and suggests tangible changes to digital platforms that can empower individuals in their personal sharing on social media."--Page 4 of cover.\0$aSexual minority women$xIdentity$xData processing.

9920722880206531139080099900$aEsther Newton made me gay /$cdirected, produced, and written by Jean Carlomusto.\\$aExplores the life and times of cultural anthropologist Esther Newton who questioned and challenged status quo assumptions on gender, sexuality and anthropological methods. Her work inspired generations of scholars to pursue research in what would eventually become the field of LGBTQ & Gender Studies. Esther's love for a sport -- competitive dog agility -- pairs her aging butch body with her beloved dog teammate on an obstacle course that is constantly changing. Agility, persistence and passionate inquiry have driven Esther's survival as a butch woman, octogenarian athlete, and iconoclast scholar in a world of full of obstacles.\0$aLesbian anthropologists.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh95005880

Comprised of chapters written by social work academics and their allies -- whose combined knowledge in the field spans decades of direct experience in human behavior, practice, policy, and research -- this book features applicable and useful content for social work students and practitioners across the allied health and mental health professions, as well as across disciplines. The expansive practice text examines international concerns and content associated with the LGBTQ movement and ongoing needs related to health, mental health, policy and advocacy, among other areas of concern. Specific highlights of the chapters include narrative that blends conceptual, theoretical, and empirical content; examination of current trends in the field related to practice considerations and intersectionality; and snapshots of concerns related to international progress and ongoing challenges related to equality and policy. Additionally, as a classroom support for instructors, each chapter has a corresponding power point presentation which includes a resource list pertaining to that chapter's focus with websites, film, and video links as well as national and international organizations associated with the LGBTQ community. Overall, Social Work Practice with the LGBTQ Community is an invaluable resource for graduate students within social work programs and related disciplines, academics, and health/mental health practitioners currently in the field"--Provided by publisher.\0$aSocial work with sexual minorities.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2006008258

Graves.0\$aStaking a claim in Mad River -- "I had to be the fighter" -- The meaning of Mad River : implications of the case -- "Coming out of the classroom closet" : LGBTQ teachers' lives after Mad River -- Movements forward and back.\\$a"Mad River, Marjorie Rowland, and the Quest for LGBTQ Teachers' Rights addresses an important legal case that set the stage for today's LGBTQ civil rights-a case that almost no one has heard of. Marjorie Rowland v. Mad River School District involves an Ohio guidance counselor fired in 1974 for being bisexual. Rowland's case made it to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the justices declined to consider it. In a spectacular published dissent, Justice Brennan laid out arguments for why the First and Fourteenth Amendments apply to bisexuals, gays, and lesbians. That dissent has been the foundation for LGBTQ civil rights advances since. In the first in-depth treatment of this foundational legal case, authors Margaret A. Nash and Karen L. Graves tell the story of that case and of Marjorie Rowland, the pioneer who fought for employment rights for LGBTQ educators and who paid a heavy price for that fight. It brings the story of LGBTQ educators' rights to the present, including commentary on Bostock v Clayton County, the 2020 Supreme Court case that struck down employment discrimination against LGBT workers"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aBisexual teachers$zUnited States.

Summary and final reflections -- References -- Index.\\$a"This book is a sociolinguistic ethnography of LGBT Mexicans/Latinxs in Phoenix, Arizona, a major metropolitan area in the U.S. Southwest. The main focus of the book is to examine participants' conceptions of their ethnic and sexual identities and how identities influence (and are influenced by) language practices. This book explores the intersubjective construction and negotiation of identities among queer Mexicans/Latinxs, paying attention to how identities are co-constructed in the interview setting in coming out narratives and in narratives of silence. The book destabilizes the dominant narrative on language maintenance and shift in sociolinguistics, much of which relies on a (heterosexual) family-based model of intergenerational language transmission, by bringing those individuals often at the margin of the family (LGBTQ members) to the center of the analysis. It contributes to the queering of bilingualism and Spanish in the U.S., not only by including a previously unstudied subgroup (LGBTQ people), but also by providing a different lens through which to view the diverse language and identity practices of U.S. Mexicans/Latinxs. This book addresses this exclusion and makes a significant contribution to the study of bilingualism and multilingualism by bringing LGBTQ Latinas/os to the center of the analysis."--Provided by publisher\0$aHispanic American sexual minorities$xLanguage.

For students, scholars, and activists who work on these and related issues, this handbook provides a unique, interdisciplinary resource. In chapters by both emerging and senior scholars, the Oxford Handbook of Global LGBT and Sexual Diversity Politics introduces key concepts in LGBT political studies and queer theory. Additionally, the handbook offers historical, geographic, and topical case studies contextualized within theoretical frameworks from the sociology of sexualities, critical race studies, postcolonialism, indigenous theories, social movement theory, and international relations theory. It provides readers with up-to-date empirical material and critical assessments of the analytical significance, commonalities, and differences of global LGBT politics. The forward-looking analysis of state practice, transnational networks, and historical context presents crucial perspectives and opens new avenues for debate, dialogue, and theory"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aGay rights.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh94009215

Inquisitive and expansive, Like a Boy but Not a Boy explores author andrea bennett's experiences with gender expectations, being a non-binary parent, and the sometimes funny and sometimes difficult task of living in a body. The book's fourteen essays also delve incisively into the interconnected themes of mental illness, mortality, creative work, class, and bike mechanics (apparently you can learn a lot about yourself through trueing a wheel). In "Tomboy," andrea articulates what it means to live in a gender in-between space, and why one might be necessary; "37 Jobs 21 Houses" interrogates the notion that the key to a better life is working hard and moving house. And interspersed throughout the book is "Everyone Is Sober and No One Can Drive," sixteen stories about queer millennials who grew up and came of age in small Canadian communities. With the same poignant spirit as Ivan Coyote's Tomboy Survival Guide, Like a Boy addresses the struggle to find acceptance, and to accept oneself; and how one can find one's place while learning to make space for others. The book also wonders what it means to be an atheist and search for faith that everything will be okay; what it means to learn how to love life even as you obsess over its brevity; and how to give birth, to bring new life, at what feels like the end of the world. With thoughtfulness and acute observation, andrea bennettreveals intimate truths about the human experience, whether one is outside the gender binary or not."--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aGender-nonconforming people.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2017004882

Building from ten years of longitudinal interviews with parents, students, teachers, and administrators, the authors share stories from different perspectives to support teachers with concrete examples of advocacy. The authors show teachers how to 'step up' by working with students, through and beyond curriculum, and by working with families and administrators to improve school culture for LGBTQ and gender diverse students. Additionally, they explore the potential barriers to such social justice work, and share strategies and resources for transforming schools to be more accepting and supportive"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aHomosexuality and education.

Building a multicultural community: developing habits of the heart and mind -- Implications of community building in an American classroom -- The larger context: looking back/looking forward\\$aHow can teachers help their students to meet high standards of reading and writing while also preparing them to become thoughtful and productive members of a multicultural society? And why is it important to do this? In this book, the author brings us into her high school English classroom, where we see students reach across the social, cultural, and economic lines that divide them to build lifelong literacy skills. The book explores what happens when we introduce students to the words of a broad spectrum of American scholars, writers, and artists and then invite them to examine, debate, and negotiate the ideas presented. She provides a safe space to explore complex issues and includes samples of classroom writing to demonstrate how students use their language arts classroom to make sense of themselves and their world. The book provides an account of teaching in a culturally and linguistically diverse classroom, including practical strategies to engage and motivate adolescents. It features a model for integrating issues of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation into the English curriculum and into classroom instruction. It introduces a blending of a traditional American Literature curriculum with an up to date treatment for use in today's diverse classrooms with glimpses at students sharing their voices and building a supportive, multicultural community in the classroom. Examples of student writing and online access to course syllabi, sample assignments, and project guidelines are also included\0$aMulticultural education$zUnited States

The dismantlement of state socialism in these regions triggered monumental shifts in their economic landscape, the involvement of their welfare states in social citizenship and, crucially, their established gender norms and relations, all contributing to the formation of the postsocialist citizen. Case studies examine a wide range of issues across 15 countries of the post-Soviet era. These include gender aspects of the developments in education in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Hungary, controversies around abortion legislation in Poland, migrant women and housing as a gendered problem in Russia, challenges facing women's NGOs in Bosnia, and identity formation of unemployed men in Lithuania. This close analysis reveals how different variations of neoliberal ideology, centred around the notion of the self-reliant and self-determining individual, have strongly influenced postsocialist gender identities, whilst simultaneously showing significant trends for a "retraditionalising" of gender norms and expectations. This volume suggests that despite integration with global political and free market systems, the postsocialist gendered subject combines strategies from the past with those from contemporary ideologies to navigate new multifaceted injustices around gender in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.--$cProvided by Publisher\0$aGender identity$zFormer communist countries.

Modern representations of the Middle Ages-including Santiago Garcia and David Rubin's graphic novel, Beowulf; Lil Nas X's music video for "Montero (Call Me By Your Name);" Patience Agbabi's retelling of Chaucer's The Miller's Tale, entitled "The Kiss;" and some BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism) practices-challenge pervasive power structures that privilege heterosexual male dominance commonly associated with medieval origins in popular culture. This comparative study between medieval and modern texts foregrounds the sexual gratification of people who are typically excluded from representations of the Middle Ages, specifically women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Erotic displays of marginalized people in medieval contexts disrupt prevalent forms of oppression rooted in institutions that censor human experiences and they direct sexual desires towards social justice"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aSexual minorities$vCase studies.

More specifically, the book asks why queer filmmakers repeatedly produced biographical films of queer individuals living and dead throughout the years surrounding the AIDS crisis. While film critics and historian typically treat the biopic as a conservative, if not cliche, genre, queer filmmakers have frequently used the biopic to tell stories of queer lives. This project pays particular attention to the genre's queer resonances, opening up the biopic's historical connections to projects of education, public health, and social hygiene, along with the production of a shared history and national identity. Queer filmmakers' engagement with the biopic evokes the genre's history of building life through the portrayal of lives worthy of admiration and emulation, but it also points to another biopic history, that of representing lives damaged. By portraying lives damaged by inconceivable loss, queer filmmakers challenge the illusion of a coherent self presumably reinforced by the biopic genre and in doing so, their films open up the potential for new means of connection and relationality. The book features fresh readings of the cinema of Derek Jarman, John Greyson, Todd Haynes, Barbara Hammer, and Tom Kalin. By calling for a reappraisal of the queer biopic, the book also calls for a reappraisal of New Queer Cinema's legacy and its influence of contemporary queer film"--$cProvided by publisher.\0$aHomosexuality in motion pictures.$0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85061793

In these stories, friendship is a vehicle to understand what lies between and within people. A young Dominican immigrant makes an unlikely friend in her Bronx building. Two queer teens venture into the streets of Santo Domingo in search of queer belonging. A 20-something lost in existential thought finds a home in a gay Latin club. In Heredia's stories, friendship is at once balm, poison, wound, and respite from the troubles that society places on migrants, on queer people, on Black folks across the diaspora. You're the Only Friend I Need cuts through received notions and sings with emotional honesty and lyrical prose." --publisher's website.\0$aFriendship$vFiction.

Here she tells the stories of a number of people struggling to come to terms with their identity in a region that, despite much progress in LGBTQ rights in recent years, still moves to a strongly conservative Christian heartbeat that condemns same-sex relations and reveres the institution of the heteronormative family" --$cPublisher.\0$aGay culture$zLatin America$vPictorial works.

991430372170653195238468000$aGay rights movement.$nSeries 12,$pLGBTQ Newspapers and Periodicals Collection from the Lesbian Herstory Archives.\\$aCompiled by grassroots activists with the motto "every lesbian life [is] a famous one," the Lesbian Herstory Archives (LHA) is the oldest and largest lesbian archival collection in the world. The newspapers and periodicals from this collection show how LGBTQ journalism developed from a collection of radical zines in the 1970s into a series of widely circulated professional newspapers and magazines in the early twenty-first century. This collection provides a thorough sampling of LGBTQ journalism. There are examples of alternative publications, including the feminist magazine It Ain't Me Babe (1970-1971), the communist Come Out Fighting (1975-1978), and New York's anarchist magazine Clone (1975-1978). But there are mainstream publications as well. The collection contains several issues of The Gay Community News, a Boston weekly with a national reach that for a while served as the movement's unofficial "paper of record," Out Front, a daily news and entertainment paper that is the second-oldest independent LGBTQ publication in the United States, and Frontiers Newsmagazine, Southern California's oldest LGBTQ newsmagazine. The collection also includes issues of some non-LGBTQ publications that treat gay themes, such as the San Francisco Chronicle. Also noteworthy is the Spanish-language Puerto Rico Breeze.\0$aGay liberation movement$vPeriodicals.

991427374090653195238467800$aGay rights movement.$nSeries 10,$pLesbian Herstory Archives newsletter collection.\\$aCompiled by grassroots activists with the motto that "every lesbian life [is] a famous one," The Lesbian Herstory Archive (LHA) is the oldest and largest lesbian archive in the world. The newsletters in this collection, originating from around the United States, provide a window into lesbian lives, communities, and activism from the 1950s to the first decade of the twenty-first century. Newsletters have been important tools of lesbian feminist organizing. In addition to being a vital tool of communication, newsletters were a place where organizers hashed out political and social ideas vital to the movement. The collection covers a range of political orientations, from militant separatists like the Radicalesbians of Philadelphia to apolitical groups like the West Side Discussion Group of New York. The newsletters reflect lesbian contributions to the feminist movement and their conflicts and alliances with other groups in the movement. There are debates about patriarchy, lesbian separatism, abortion, and sterilization abuse. Many discuss peace activism and the status of women around the world. But there are also newsletters from professional, religious, and spiritual organizations, including some that discuss family (such as Columbus, Ohio's Momazons) and others that cover feminist art, books, music, and entertainment.\0$aGay liberation movement$vPeriodicals.

991426574240653195238467600$aGay rights movement.$nSeries 8,$pGay and lesbian politics and social activism :$bselected newsletters and periodicals.\\$aIn 1982, community historians in San Francisco established permanent archives documenting the Bay Area's gay and lesbian history. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society's collection now encompasses more than 3,000 issues of periodicals, newspapers, newsletters, and journals that trace the evolution of LGBT identities, pride, and politics from 1947 to 2004. Although materials from Northern California make up much of the collection, it also contains many LGBT publications from other US cities, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. The archive includes rare editions of some of the earliest publications pertaining to LGBT life. The documents included here focus on political and social activism of the early years of gay and lesbian journalism. The collection contains issues of Vice Versa, the first lesbian periodical in the United States, and newsletters and journals of the country's first lesbian rights group, the Daughters of Bilitis, and its first gay rights organization, the Mattachine Society. Scholars interested in the international gay rights movement throughout the 1950s and 1960s will find publications from France, Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, and Denmark. The archive contains materials from the gay liberation movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s, including many New York City periodicals; the newsletters of Democratic, Republican, and libertarian gay and lesbian groups; and a near-complete run of newsletters from the Alexander Hamilton Post of the American Legion that demonstrate the work of gay and lesbian veterans to end discrimination in the military.\0$aGay liberation movement$vPeriodicals.

991425676620653195238475900$aGay rights movement.$nSeries 5,$pGay activism in Britain from 1958 :$bthe Hall-Carpenter archives.\\$aThis collection of materials is taken from the Hall-Carpenter Archives, which documents lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender activism in the United Kingdom. Spanning the period from 1958 to 1990, this collection chronicles the activities of the Albany Trust, an organization that was initially focused on decriminalizing homosexuality and increasing social acceptance of gay people. The Albany Trust centered its work on counseling services, research, and public education, helping to steer society and the law away from older, traditional ideas regarding homosexuality. This collection includes a wide variety of materials related to the organization and its activities. There are internal documents such as reports, financial papers, meeting minutes, and correspondence. The collection contains publications and public relations work from the Albany Trust, including its newsletters, journals, and pamphlets. Publicity, annual reports, and correspondence from other organizations illustrate the alliances that Albany Trust formed, and in some cases document the work of organizations that opposed the Trust. Seminar and conference proceedings are covered, as well as research into sexuality. The files of social workers handling caseloads for the group provide insight into the counseling services that were offered to gays at the time. The collection also includes papers regarding the training of youth workers and the development of sex education in the mid-1970s. All records from the field officer, who was assigned to develop links between the trust and social workers in the UK, are included in this collection as well. Although the Albany Trust as it exists today fills a different role than it did mid-century, its presence from the beginnings of the gay rights movement in the UK offers a targeted view into the time period. This collection provides essential documentation of the decriminalization of homosexuality and the progression of gay rights in the United Kingdom.\0$aGay liberation movement.
