SunsetFelidFull-Time Illustrator. If I've learned anything from this, its that I'm undercharging. If I have any advice to give, its to set deadlines for yourself and break down projects into smaller objectives, to make them easier to complete. Don't take jobs you aren't confident you can complete within your deadline; that is to say, don't push yourself over any edges, know your limits. Communicate clearly and often with clients. And charge what you need or what you're worth. Would love some advice on advertising.6CAwork: 4€, freelance: 20€$50$50$180$50$110-180<- triple your rates for real!!

Freelance artist & graphic design apprentice: I'm trying to get better at not getting underpayed. But real honest advice: don't be scared of trying something "way out of your league". I tried and am now proudly working for a huge company that will bring me far as soon I'm through with my crusty apprenticeship. 3EuropeUsually don't do per hour. ChristinaMy Background: 4 year Honours Bachelor of Design (YSDN), Graphic Design & Illustrator, Primarily work in the music industry My Advice: KNOW YOUR WORTH!! Even when working with smaller businesses/clients or up an coming businesses. I primarily work with smaller musicians and music labels, and most of them are willing and able to pay me my rates. My rates are flexible based on their budgets, but it's very rare I have someone refuse to work with me/negotiate lower prices after hearing my rates. I wasted way too much time working with a company that was majorly underpaying me, and since leaving, no one has turned me down over my rates. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions to make sure you know exactly what the client wants! 3 years since graduating, 5 years of design freelancing, ~8 years of illustration freelancingSmall town Ontario, CanadaRarely, but $80-$100 per/hr. Typically do a retiner or a day-rate depending on project. $300+ CAD fixed rate OR $75+/hour CAD (price really depends on the client)$500+ CAD fixed rate (I tend to work with smaller artists, so charge less for branding)$150+ CAD fixed rate OR $50/hour CAD$250+ CAD fixed rate OR $50+/hour CADN/AN/ANo base fixed rate, as this is really dependent on the size of the artist. Hourly is $75+ CADN/A No set rates, as it really depends on what the illustration isI rarely do these, and my skillset is meh, so probably $40–$50/hour CADN/A$125+ CAD fixed rate OR $40–$50+/hour CAD (price fluctuates a lot based on number/type of graphics)N/AN/AN/AN/AN/AN/A

Italian social media manager, digital creator and graphic designer. I've worked in the music industry for more than 10 years, helping promoting the tour of acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Queen, AJR, The Cure, Anthrax, The Black Crowes, Counting Crows and many more. I'm self taught. Probably the only tip I could give is to be the most versitile as you can. Diversify your works, try to explore new software and operating fields, you'd be much more appetible for clients looking for a full service package.10+ItalyNever worked with h/rate but fixed project fares with reasonable amount of edits included600€ avg€200+€200+€200+250€ avg1k€ avgIt really depends on what the client needs. I usually work on monthly projects starting from 300€ if no content creation is needed. Obviously my goal is to have direct control on the whole comunication area concerning social medias, it allows me to have way more flexibility and 'range' to study a promo plan. In this case my fee increases depending on the content the client wants (reel, simple graphics, weekly calendar, stories, community management and so on). Genery I go for a 500/600€ monthly fee for 2/3 post a week with content creation, to 800/1200€ monthly fee for a whole package and more than 3/4 weekly posts.

3 Tips:
Tip 1: Specialize and aim to be really good at one thing. You'll always wipe out other options and can charge more for your expertise.

Tip 2: Talk to people, comment on others posts, share your work. Be remembered and be top of mind. It helps with bringing in leads.

Tip 3: Find ways to make your work or services better even by just a little bit every time you have a new client. It brings up your value as a designer and can lead to better clients and better rates.

IBRRAHey guys! This was page was a huge help for me as someone who started freelancing in 2020 but have been in design school sicne 2016 and didnt feel more comfortable with my design capabilities until 2019 as I started getting to the style I was aiming myself to be in. I actually developed my rates thanks to seeing how everyone valued themselves here. The following rates are my new rates until I feel I have grown even more to be at the rates of some of you guys out there. I was always scared of throwing my rates out because I was worried I was overextending myself or making myself not available to clients because of my prices, but I know I'm not going to get any better at getting my rates respected until I hold these standards to myself as well of my worth. Thank you guys again! AMEEENNNNNN !!!3Los Angeles, USAN/A300$4,000 minimumt$200N/A350350400Lyric Videos -- $500 x x looping, with all the lyrics — 1 week2,000400

My pricing really depends on the client, projects and their budget. These are the recently revised minimum rates I charged for smaller artists/business (and I'm hoping to follow). 3 revisions, 50% deposit upfront, 20% kill fee mid way, 20% for extra revisio2USAn/amin $500 but that's for really small/independent things. I have done posters for large events that pay anywhere from $3-9K.min $500 but that's for really small/independent things. I have done posters for large events that pay anywhere from $3-9K.for me, this category is different because I like to support growing bands if I like their music and they don't have the financial support of a label. for those clients, $600-$800 depending on complexity and whether they're doing merch. for a big name with a label, min $3K. editorial: min $450 per illustration (except sometimes newspaper clients who come back with a lot of work). editorial rates are often quite set so different publications pay differently. magazine covers are often $2-3K. for commercial work, the range is enormous and again depends primarily on client and usage. I've done a small project for $3K and larger projects for $50-80K.budgets are often more strict when publishing houses are involved. and there are often tons of revisions. seems like $2-$4K works, but I'm new to this category. I think it should be more.

@cosmickxcey (fan art) and @spaceychristian Hey there! I'm Chris (ig: spaceychristian / fan-art acc ig: @cosmickxcey ), a freelance graphic designer based in Spain. With over three years of experience under my belt, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with some noteworthy artists, including the talented Kacey Musgraves. I'm entirely self-taught in the realm of graphic design. Ever since I was a kid, I've been enamored with drawing. Now that I have the means, I've cultivated a fan art account. It's become more than just a platform for sharing my art; it's been the springboard for numerous opportunities that have come my way. Every single day, I'm on a mission to expand my skill set. Of course, I have a different price range here in VE, since the local market doesn't have the investment capability for creative work.5+VenezuelaI charge per project ($30 to $60 p/hr)$400+ a basic brandboard$1000+ Depends on brand's scale and strategic needings$100+ It depends on theme's complexity or event's commercial scale$150+ each. Negotiable if it's for specific/personal usage$100+ Depends on how complex is the topic to study and translate visually into the medium$200+ Each page. Only Prototyping, Development will be charged as another service$100+ the artwork. $400+ the graphic pack$60+ a tag - $200+ a premade package - $1000+ a full design concept$50 per hour each project. This is a very broad field to break down a per project price in one cell$350+ a basic pack. variable within brand's scale and guidelines.$200+ Depends on complexity and author's influence$400+ variable within book's page quantity and how much layout variations there will be.I usually don't work this individually on the global market$100+. Variable within graphic complexity, interactivity and slide quantityI use mostly free assets on my works but, if a paid editable required, I just add it to the final invoice as a fee. Now, If I have to create original mockups, I have to charge photo sessions, edition, models, commuting and spaces to take the pics, ofc that depends on the people I have to hire and the equipment to rent. All quotes for individual projects greatly depend on what type of branding the client has or doesn't have. Number of concepts and revisions are always agreed upon upfront.

Sk.grafixFreelance graphic designer. Self taught (2 years) started in lockdown March 2020. Specialise in cover art and sports designsLondon, UKI charge day rate, equating to $USD65-120 an hour based on client + location. Tech companies & US companies pay higher. Project rate has been tricky for me, I've sometimed ended up doing more work and not been paid extra for it. I prefer to book by time period, it makes it easy to manage my time and end bookings when necessary. It's also less stressful and allows me to charge rush/weekend/overtime rates to protect my sanity.£60£70N/a£70 single cover & £100 with tracklist £150£50 a month

Kiara3 YearsUSAI charge by project, but use my "hourly rate" to help determine my project pricing. Say I estimate a project is going to take me 5 hours. My "hourly rate" is $50, so I know I will charge a minimum or $250 for that project. I don't typically share my hourly rate with clients unless there's a large project I'm working on and I offer a price breakdown. I offer different packages, but they start at $500I don't offer thisPricing changes dependeding on the project, client and use, but I typically go between the $500-$700 range$500+ again, depends on the usage (ex. will it be on multiple items like a hoodie, t-shirt, etc.), client, and estimated project lengthI don't offer thisI don't offer thisI don't offer thisSingle Cover $500+

$100 per graphic$400+ but I've only done two and they were for smaller, self-published authors. I'd adjust the price depending on design asks I don't offer this as a stand alone service, I usually offer it as a package with a logo designI include mockups with any item I am designing, I don't charge separately for thisMinimum price i charge for any design being sold is $250, even if it's a simple design. I add my hourly rate on top of that after the first hour. C7 yearsLAI avoid hourly work. If someone insisted, no less than 60$ per hour. I don't do one off logos and only offer full branding/ brand indentity.Starts at $5,000 with 2 round of revisions.I don't do one off posters/ flyers unless it's for myself.Depends on the client/ ask, but generally speaking starts at $500 for something super simple and includes 2 rounds of revisions.N/AIncluded in my day rate or would charge a project fee depending on client.Starts at $2,000 for a simple 5-6 page site.N/AN/AProject flat rate or day rate. Would definitely price higher depending on the client, the usage of the illustration, etc.

Aryaman MunishAlternative type, chrometype and 3D artist. You don't necessarily have to justify your prices. We are all unique and our work in of itself is unique. It's hard to quantify creative work in terms of the time you spent on it because a lot of the process is just thinking about it when you may not be diverting all your capacities towards the work. You may not need more money, but it never really hurts and by raising your prices you increase the standards of pay for designers all over the world, some of whom may genuinely need more money to survive in their country / life situation. 2 yearsFree$200-400Never done a full branding but it wouldn't be less than 1500USD300 and above, depending on complexity400USD and above, try to sell license to produce a certain amount of units. LBeen a graphic designer since I was 12, worked for YouTubers and currently work in the entertainment/music industry for years. I received my Bachelors Degree in design and also handle photography. I handle design assets, photography, and album rollouts. Not leaving any info nor years of experience for anonymity. Thanks!Flat prices only as of nowDepends on the scope of the work. If it is a small indie artist then maybe 2k. If it is a large brand then it will work its way up to the 5 figure area. I always look to explore if I will be handling more assets, brand bible, etc to fetch higher amounts. Also rounds of revisions add higher numbers."Full branding" is rather vague. If we are having to figure out how the logo fits onto the website and business cards then it's not going to be drastically more than the cost of the logo itself. If we are figuring out the brands color palettes, taglines, how the logo works on every deliverable they have in their current existence, that all requires research and development and will easily land in the 5 figure to 6 figure range depending on the companies revenue. If it is a standard 11x17 poster then I likely won't even be taking the project because it won't fetch any good dollar amount. However, for tour posters I will charge upward of $1-2k because I will have to figure deliverables for multiple formats including square, story (social media), website banner, full scale, billboards, along with all localized assets. Some places such as art museums might not even have the budget to have you. Parks can also be the same way, but I also know people who charge tens of thousands over an entire year to handle all of them and not just one singluar poster.Tshirt is a SOFT item the same way a hoodie, long sleeve, crewneck, etc is. It is something you wear. Typically I will charge minimum $500 but have worked on project where we are charging $1000 PER APPROVED DESIGN. Whoever above typed that they make royalties is fucking lying to you. Nobody does that unless they are your very close friend that you've known since neither of you had teeth.N/A for myself, but I know people who work on AAA games who won't touch these types of things without a comma being attached to the project. I don't take these kinds of projects on but here is some food for thought. This should be an itemized piece of a larger project such as event branding, wayfinding, etc where you can do backdrops, banisters, posters, etc etc. If you're offering to your client the opportunity to source paper, check print qualities, handle all communications with printer, etc then you can fetch higher dollars. Always look for how you can maximize it for yourself and be of more service to your client!I don't do these but once again, this is a misleading tab. "Website" is not clear if it is front end, back end, or maintaining the website post launch. Are you a developer? Do you need to hire one? Do you know one that will be able to code to the correct language needed? Devs and engineers are expensive but you're looking at high 4 figure, low 5 figure if it isn't a complex website. Depends on the label, the artist, and if they even believe in them. Their creative lines include lots of stuff not just album art. However, I will charge between $1500-5k for just the digital art. Packaging on the next columnPackaging can include a wide variety of things and you should itemize it so that your client doesn't shaft you. Vinyl, CD, and Cassettes are the usual packaging items in music but you can also get special boxes and more. I've gotten as low as $2k for a vinyl but have gotten as high as $8k. CD and cassettes I usually itemize for around $2-2.5k as they are another stream of revenue for the client.N/AN/AN/AOk gonna break this one down too. Are you reformatting something you already made for social media? Are you doing an entire social media campaign for them? Are they just posting something you already made on social media? The music industry tends to sneak this into one of your deliverables. For example, if you're doing a tour poster you will be requested to deliver a 1x1 and 9x16 format for story. You are not going to get a single dollar on this, as it is already expected of you to deliver your assets to fit all social media formats including Spotify banners, Facebook Banners, etc. Have that conversation up front for those assets and just charge more there. If you're doing a social media marketing campaign then that is a different converstion. N/AN/AOnly ever worked on these in school, but professors discussed low thousand range for stuff they were working on.N/AN/AThis is itemized under branding. Nobody is doing a one off business card and if you are then you're probably really young.N/AN/AThis is a part of your deliverables with merchandise already. N/A

AllandWorking as a graphic artist for over twenty years. From humble beginnings taking Saturday High and Art Center at Night classes at Pasadena Art Center College of Design, to interactive design for a major ad firm, then added an illustrious career as a globetrotting house and techno DJ and producer, while keeping up freelance design and AD for that world. These days you can find me living in Berlin, working as the Senior Creative Designer at Beatport, and creating vibrant visual media for a multitude of corporate and music business clients. I've art directed brand collabs with Absolut, Ballantine's, Microsoft Surface, and Carl Craig's All Black Digital. Be selective as possible. Work only on projects you'd love to. Don't underestimate the motivation the money gives you, it's crucial! You're a professional, not a slave. Any collaboration is mutually beneficial. Have faith in your skill, talent and creativity! Try to utilize every experience you got no matter positive or negative, and include it in your professional skills.

I've been working as a graphic designer my whole life, started from zero experience and got some in process. Before I finished art school in 2004, I'd decided not to make any commercial design/advertising, as it is pure torture for me, and worked as a pre-press officer for three years. Then I start my graphic design education, and since 2004, I've been working almost only in the cultural sphere.

Each project is unique, and I am not the shop to have any pricing.

M-handle budget and timeline first
-ask for a deposit at beginning
-ask about kill fees and get them midway thru the project
-at the end of each month, put 25% of your income into a separate, designated savings account so all your taxes are in once place at the end of the year!
-say no if you're feeling too overwhelmed and the project doesn't aling with your personal goals!
-don't be afriad to make a contract even if its for a "small" project/band/brand!
-stay organized af! keep track of invoice numbers, check #s, paid dates, deadlines, project details, etc. all in one place
-better to charge a flat fee than charge hourly because you'll start to work faster over time
-charge more as you get more experience, it doesn't hurt to ask for more and negotiate

Have EVERYTHING in writing, keep all your NDA's, contracts, etc in folders. Stay organized. Make a payment sheet with what people owe you. DONT BE SCARED TO ASK FOR WHAT YOU ARE WORTH. Also, always mention that there is room to budge for the budget, sometimes you have to take a lower pay for a solid portfolio piece, or to make a solid connection.6y freelance - 2y studio10-20 depending on project. I'm a freelance self-taught digital artist who started in vector-imitation graphics and switched over to original illustration and sequential art in the past few years. This is not my primary source of income, only a hobby. The strongest advice I can give about money-related things is to find someone to help you with rates and yell at you when you're undercharging. It can be hard to ask for what you truly deserve (as you can clearly see from my suboptimal rates), and sometimes a little bit of outside accountability can help set you on the right track. :) Good luck!I'm a freelance self-taught digital artist who started in vector-imitation graphics and switched over to original illustration and sequential art in the past few years. HARRY VINCENTHave paperwork. Timelines. Late Fees. Invoice people 50% upfront. Never send files unles all payments have been made. Fuck Paypal. Never agree to 'Work For Hire' terms as a freelancer. Be specific in what your client is getting (1080x1080 JPG etc. Use your own native currency for payments, don't pander to a client. morgan wren5Atlanta, GA USA$85 AUD (~$65USD). I charge by the hour for certain consulting projects but generally do one fee for a given project. For my flat fees, I make sure that I will get at least $85p/h+ at the end of the day. Sometimes my clients have a set budget (from their funding agency) and we discuss what I can do within that budget. I find being open and honest about money works well with my clients. $650 starting$1000+

Consulting scientific graphic and information designer. I have a PhD in science and am a self-taught designer. I have been consulting as a designer for a year, and a large part of what I do is translating science and visual storytelling. I charge for my experience as a scientist and my ability to talk science with my clients. Next year I will be putting my hourly rate up $101-2$75/hr, sometimes $100, and I gave nonprofits a 40% discount

Full-time New York-based freelancer for 4 years, worked at a couple of big-name design agencies as full-time designer for about 5 years before then. Still prefer combining client work with some agency / in-house design bookings that provide consistent and predictable pay. General advice is, I think it helps being a nice human (cheesy but true), asking for referrals and communicating what work you do, and staying on top of your shit (deadlines, check-ins, contracts, presentation decks, emails). Oh, and also: I'm white, female, CIS, not from the US, European-presenting, with a Masters degree in design10 after graduation, 13 totalNYC$75–150 per hour, $75 is for small studios/agencies, $150 is for clients that can pay that much or ones I want to discourage from hiring me hourly. KelseyBFA in graphic design, working full-time as designer/art director/design director since 2009, part-time before that for 3 years. I have a full-time well-paying job, so my freelance projects are only things I'm excited about and have the luxury of not worrying about "making a living" off of and can therefore charge perhaps less than if I was freelance fulltime. Hourly/project rate depends on timing, how excited I am about the project, how easy the client is to work with. That said, I still make sure to charge enough to justify giving up nights/weekends!15Los Angeles, CA$75 but I don't often base projects off of this rate alone; the return on investment a client gets from my work is worth more than just my horuly rate.

Corinne DodenhoffFreelancing part time since 2010 basically, but freelancing full time for the last two years. I've also held in-house graphic design positions at big companies and for large music venues. My advice is to ALWAYS get a 50% deposit up front, no matter the project, and to break down every project into phases/milestones that can have costs associated with it. I also work sliding scale which is a non-negotiable for me, or work with extended payment plans, so that my clients feel like my work is accessible. I think I've gained a lot of good client feedback and grown my client base by letting people know that design is accessible to them, even if it means we space a project out over 6 months as opposed to 2. I also make sure to include a really detailed scope on my invoices and in my contract so that my clients know exactly what they're paying for, and know that after that scope is met I start to charge my hourly.US, Philadelphia$70-$80/hr based on scope$1200-$2200 for 3-4 concepts. Depends heavily on who the client is, if they fall into sliding scale, etc.I don't do 'full branding' vs logo; I personally believe a logo doesn't work unless the other assets work with it, so I do a brand system for every brand client that varies in scope and size. $150-$600 depending on event, client, etc. If it's a band tour flyer it's obviously going to get more reuse than a one-off.$250 minimum with use license$1,500- $2,000 for 10 pages$350-$1,200 depending on client, type of album (single vs. full length)
