@cosmickxcey (fan art) and @spaceychristian Hey there! I'm Chris (ig: spaceychristian / fan-art acc ig: @cosmickxcey ), a freelance graphic designer based in Spain. With over three years of experience under my belt, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with some noteworthy artists, including the talented Kacey Musgraves. I'm entirely self-taught in the realm of graphic design. Ever since I was a kid, I've been enamored with drawing. Now that I have the means, I've cultivated a fan art account. It's become more than just a platform for sharing my art; it's been the springboard for numerous opportunities that have come my way. Every single day, I'm on a mission to expand my skill set. I love pushing the boundaries of what I can do, whether it's experimenting with Photoshop and Illustrator or getting back to basics with pencil and paper. It's this relentless pursuit of growth that fuels my passion for design.3 years Spain I usually work by project, not by $/hour600$ - 1000$aprox. 1000$ (depends on how much brand it is)$60-$200300$-700$N/AN/AIt mostly depends on the level of the artist. 750-1000$N/ADependsN/AN/A60-200$N/AN/ADepending on the artist +500$N/AN/AN/AN/AN/AThe price of the mockups of my designs are usually accompanied with the design when purchasedN/ADependsN/A500-700$N/AN/A

@fm.artzI'm a freelance graphic designer based in Caracas, Venezuela. I have more than 5 years of experience in the creative area experimenting and designing for social media, apparel, illustration, branding and music. I'm on my way of getting my degree in Visual Communication, also, learning video, motion graphics and UI/UX to be updated to the current times. I live on a very low salary and adquisitive power nation but with a high cost of living, so, I rely on the global market to work freelance and live. My prices here are the ones I would charge on a regional/Global scale doing freelance works, I have a different price range in VE, since clients here dosen't have the AP to invest in the creative area.5+VenezuelaAround 20-30$ I mostly work per project400$+ 1000$+ Depends on the brand scale and assets60$+ It depends on the event scale and the complexity60$+ For personal use only (4/5 prints max). Now, If I have to create original mockups, I have to charge photo sessions, edition, models, commuting and spaces to take the pics, ofc that depends on the people I have to hire and the equipment to rent. All quotes for individual projects greatly depend on what type of branding the client has or doesn't have. Number of concepts and revisions are always agreed upon upfront.

@margogdp illustration and @margarita_tk_ gráfico design(@sashaguimaraes) I am a Brazilian Visual Artist freelancer who's work ranges from 2d graphic world, all the way to complex videos with layered mediums of all sorts such as illustration, motiongraphics, graphic design, etc. First advice and the most important is to pave your own way in the industry youre headed in, with your own style. this might mean fewer clients at first and less income, but once you reach a point where your style and aesthetic speaks for itself and no one but you can create that, people will strat coming to you faster than you think. Spend time on your craft without the need of attention because working on your style is an investment. I am currently working mainly within the music industry, with both really big labels such as Republic Records and EMI Records, my pricing always aims to be the highest given the labels can easily afford that. I take into consideration who the artist is under the label (very popular or smaller who just got signed) and make a flat rate accordingly. I have found that remaining TRUE to my own style and aesthetic in the long run has brought me more clients who are willing to pay my regular rates since I am the only one who can provide what they are searching for. Doing this has allowed me to build strong connections and having those same clients always returning for more collaborations. Very few cases I will allow a big flexibility in my style or aesthetic, only if it will lead me to huge opportunities and connections that align with my values and area of work I see myself headed to. If not, I kindly reject projects that do not match my artistry and lead them to fellow artists and friends who can provide them what they seek. Be true to yourself because a lot of this truly is building professional bonds with a friend-to-family energy that will create a wonderful work circle in your life, leading to new people and contacts solely based on how lovely you are as a person and also as a professional visual artist. On the other hand, working with smaller musicinas or independent ones who are not singed, naturally my flate rates will be lower but all according to how they will use my products, etc. I suggest doing some research on flat fees vs hourly rates and understand both, and then see what suits you and your work flow best. Charge for your skill, creative eye and talent. the more years you work, the faster you will become and this does not mean you should charge less. If a client complains about that, it is a sign they are not the best client for you and do not respect your work as much. People who really want you in their project will pay. That is also how you build respect in the industry as well as self respect with your work! ilustración 4+ designe 1$200-$300 depending on what client need but full brandbook around $800-1000$30-$100$100+$40-$250$30 denwral design and $20 each post$30 por a set of 5 emots

🦫Graphic Designer and illustrator. Full-time freelancer right now. Honestly, if you're not from a first world country it can be quite hard to find good (well-paying) clients. Clients from developing countries pay ass when it comes to design. Good design isn't valued here. The cheaper you are, the more likely they'll get you even though your designs aren't good. Abbie & HarryGraphic design duo, with degrees in Graphic Design and Illustration. Started working together in 2012, started a studio in 2018. Technically been designing for 10 years, but officially as a studio for 4. Brief (6 months) experience in the London design scene before starting our own studio up.

We charge in three different ways (inspired by a talk I hosted once with Aries Moross):
1. Silly money: Charging for the maximum, mainly for projects that are going to be a pain/they have the budget and we're saving their asses. Making profit on the work we do.
2. Spot on the money: Charging what it should be/how long it takes to actually do so. We often do this for projects we think we can make something cool for but maybe don't know the client very well yet.
3. Lose money on purpose: Charging less than we should, but usually for clients we know personally, and that will let us go nuts on the design. We will usually ask for a deal on top like free coffee for a year or money to spend in a shop.

Underpromise and overdeliver, trust the process, and be kind to each other.

Abstract Lion / 'CML'I'm an experimental multimedia artist working out of my childhood bedroom - making things along the lines of graphic design , video games, music , typography , and traditional art (No degree) . I've been creating for about 12 years (for the past 4 years as Abstract Lion) (previously under the alias Nitro Pulse from 2010 to 2017) the main focus of my project is to project feelings of nastolgia and euphoria . in prior years I never charged a single penny for any work I did , as of 2022 I now work freelance and off of commission12½Naugatuck , ConnecticutI don't usually charge per hour but if your client requires you with an hourly rate, here is my rate: $350-480$50-80N/A$250-300 depending on the amount of text needed$250-300$30 for 8bit and 16bit pixel art based characters, $75 for hand drawn full color character designs , $120 for lowpoly ps1 style 3d character designsN/AN/A$250-300N/Adepends on what I'm illustrating, a book/video game cover illustration for instance I'd charge $250 - 300 as a draft idea would be $100$120/per minute of video (4k 60fps)N/AN/AN/A$150 for 1000 frames (each) (regardless of fps)

AlanaFrom a music industry perspective: I've worked in studios for most of my time while freelancing on the side from a range of clients, independent & signed. Always push for 50% deposit up front and a kill fee of 20-30%. Charge more for those signed at a label. Create your own scope of work and make the client sign so everyone's on the same page. Also, charge a rush fee (1.5x -2x your normal rate) if the deadline is super tight. For tour posters, include a max amount of revisions for when the poster is finalized. It's inevitable during COVID that tour dates get pushed back/rescheduled and they need an updated poster. After they reach the max, start chargin baby :$4n/a $2k+ monthly retainer$100$500 min (I throw in social media banners & story resizing for free if they're independent or low budget)CD/Vinyl Packaging $300 min for packaging alone, more if I'm designing the materials for the packaging.$300 min

Remember, typography is the very-very-very-very-very significant element of graphic design :)
Be selective as possible. Work only on projects you'd love to. Don't underestimate the motivation the money gives you, it's crucial! You're a professional, not a slave. Any collaboration is mutually beneficial. Have faith in your skill, talent and creativity! Try to utilize every experience you got no matter positive or negative, and include it in your professional skills.

I've been working as a graphic designer my whole life, started from zero experience and got some in process. Before I finished art school in 2004, I'd decided not to make any commercial design/advertising, as it is pure torture for me, and worked as a pre-press officer for three years. Then I start my graphic design education, and since 2004, I've been working almost only in the cultural sphere.

Each project is unique, and I am not the shop to have any pricing.

AllandWorking as a graphic artist for over twenty years. From humble beginnings taking Saturday High and Art Center at Night classes at Pasadena Art Center College of Design, to interactive design for a major ad firm, then added an illustrious career as a globetrotting house and techno DJ and producer, while keeping up freelance design and AD for that world. These days you can find me living in Berlin, working as the Senior Creative Designer at Beatport, and creating vibrant visual media for a multitude of corporate and music business clients. I've art directed brand collabs with Absolut, Ballantine's, Microsoft Surface, and Carl Craig's All Black Digital. Recent clients for internal brand movements (sub-contracted by an agency) include Ikea, Siemens Energy and Sparkasse.20Berlin, Germany-based, born n raised in California75-130/hr€1000-3000 depending on the client. I don't do big productions for this like photoshoots etc. Just myself doing design stuff, handmade stuff, whatever.Day rate. Indie music clients get cheaper stuff for release promo and so forth. Usually €300 for the key piece, then €100-150 per version (like if there's multiple songs to promote with the same template)Usually included in brand or album art projects as a bundle. For statics anyway. I don't really do ad hoc random social stuffDay rate. Usually 2-3 days so like 1000-1500

It's hard to quantify creative work in terms of the time you spent on it because a lot of the process is just thinking about it when you may not be diverting all your capacities towards the work. You may not need more money, but it never really hurts and by raising your prices you increase the standards of pay for designers all over the world, some of whom may genuinely need more money to survive in their country / life situation. 2 yearsFree$200-400Never done a full branding but it wouldn't be less than 1500USD300 and above, depending on complexity400USD and above, try to sell license to produce a certain amount of units. Benji TaylorFreelance Designer and Editor for Music, Fashion & Live Events Culture.

Previous clients include: Sony Music UK, Warner Music UK, LVMH, TAG Heuer, Porsche.

If you want corporate style work gigs, look for recruiters posting out contracts on LinkedIn & email them, even if (& most times this may happen) they fill the position before you enquire, they will have your info so this at least starts a dialogue, contact them at least once a month, if even just to say hi, be friendly :). If you want to design for Music Artists or merchandise, start going to events & making friends in your local music community, search for & contact design directors at record labels on instagram & post consistent work to help start a converstation & also build your own community.

When on call with a client, listen intently a lot more than you speak, get genuniely excited about their project, almost as much as they are.

ALWAYS be prepared with documents (work contracts, portfolios of different types of work, invoice templates, 'Scope Of Work' templates). Get 50% deposits paid upfront, you are worth the money, trust & investment.

Fast, Cheap, Quality. Your client can only pick two.

Include (at minimum) info about kill fees, distribution fees, rush fees, project file handover fees & late payment fees in your contract.

BonesI know charging by the hour is the standard method of charging by creatives, but like others have mentioned personally I like to just charge a flat rate and then from there outline expectations, scope, revisions, project length etc. I do this because I dislike the notion of making less money because you are efficient. I'm sure many people here have watched Futur and how they talk about pricing and I do agree with what they say. Why should I make less when I'm saving you time because I am good at what I do. This is a generalization and with larger projects and more team members things change, I am mostly speaking to the short term freelance projects. Also everything scales with the size of the company like thats just how it has to be. Don't charge the same amount for a 50 person company as you would for 500 person company you'd probably be a consultant or on salary at that point but still. Have a portfolio even if it is bonesmohr.myportfolio.com just have something until you can properly build a website. Also I love helping friends out and I love doing things for free or for fun as long as my hearts in it and typically those friends will repay the favor when I need help on a project *although* this is a fine line to walk. My point is don't forget to love what you do and have fun with it.x5+301000+ Solely logo5,000 brand guidelines, styleguide etc bigger company higher the price, more people will see it, more revisions, more time you get the pointReally depends on scope of project for small business and friends just a couple hundred bucks, anything to do with runs over 500 shirts at least $1,000 scaling with amount of shirts printed3000+ again so dependent on scope, if I'm also supplying 3d assets and designing a higher end website it can be 5,000-10,000+1000+ depending on the client honestly, I have some friends in the music industry I would genuinely enjoy making album art for so i would charge on the lower end obviously if it is a big client price reflects that1000+ again depends on scope and complexity1500+ good motion graphics are so taxing haha I have learned either the client and I have a relationship or I'm charging you up the wazoo1000+3000+ Scope again

CI've been designing professionally for 7+ years, ranging from in-house, contract to freelance work. I went to school for graphic design and also create digital art. My number one piece of advice I would give: put your work out there – have a website, post and share your work online. Second, have your own contracts and paperwork handy – a general contract template/ letter of agreement between you and the client, an invoice template (also charge 50% of your project fee up front, it'll save you stress and worry later on). Third, if you love design, make sure you have other creative outlets outside of your day job, take time off, enjoy life too (it'll save you from feeling burnt out).3 in agency, 1 freelance Canada$50-100 depending on request.607550605060606050

ChristinaMy Background: 4 year Honours Bachelor of Design (YSDN), Graphic Design & Illustrator, Primarily work in the music industry My Advice: KNOW YOUR WORTH!! Even when working with smaller businesses/clients or up an coming businesses. I primarily work with smaller musicians and music labels, and most of them are willing and able to pay me my rates. My rates are flexible based on their budgets, but it's very rare I have someone refuse to work with me/negotiate lower prices after hearing my rates. I wasted way too much time working with a company that was majorly underpaying me, and since leaving, no one has turned me down over my rates. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions to make sure you know exactly what the client wants! 3 years since graduating, 5 years of design freelancing, ~8 years of illustration freelancingSmall town Ontario, CanadaRarely, but $80-$100 per/hr. Typically do a retiner or a day-rate depending on project. $300+ CAD fixed rate OR $75+/hour CAD (price really depends on the client)$500+ CAD fixed rate (I tend to work with smaller artists, so charge less for branding)$150+ CAD fixed rate OR $50/hour CAD$250+ CAD fixed rate OR $50+/hour CADN/AN/ANo base fixed rate, as this is really dependent on the size of the artist. Hourly is $75+ CADN/A No set rates, as it really depends on what the illustration isI rarely do these, and my skillset is meh, so probably $40–$50/hour CADN/A$125+ CAD fixed rate OR $40–$50+/hour CAD (price fluctuates a lot based on number/type of graphics)N/AN/AN/AN/AN/AN/A

Corinne DodenhoffFreelancing part time since 2010 basically, but freelancing full time for the last two years. I've also held in-house graphic design positions at big companies and for large music venues. My advice is to ALWAYS get a 50% deposit up front, no matter the project, and to break down every project into phases/milestones that can have costs associated with it. I also work sliding scale which is a non-negotiable for me, or work with extended payment plans, so that my clients feel like my work is accessible. I think I've gained a lot of good client feedback and grown my client base by letting people know that design is accessible to them, even if it means we space a project out over 6 months as opposed to 2. I also make sure to include a really detailed scope on my invoices and in my contract so that my clients know exactly what they're paying for, and know that after that scope is met I start to charge my hourly.US, Philadelphia$70-$80/hr based on scope$1200-$2200 for 3-4 concepts. Depends heavily on who the client is, if they fall into sliding scale, etc.I don't do 'full branding' vs logo; I personally believe a logo doesn't work unless the other assets work with it, so I do a brand system for every brand client that varies in scope and size. $150-$600 depending on event, client, etc. If it's a band tour flyer it's obviously going to get more reuse than a one-off.$250 minimum with use license$1,500- $2,000 for 10 pages$350-$1,200 depending on client, type of album (single vs. full length)

David McGillivrayI’ve been a professional designer for 13 years, majority of which I’ve working in NYC in the startup scene. You can see my work here: www.dmcg.co and I’m on twitter here @dmcgco I was originally a high school drop out, I worked in a bar, an insurance company, a hardware store, until I realized I wanted to go back to school and study design. So I made my own portfolio from an assortment of designs I’d done, and got in. I studied design in England and have a 1st class BA in Art & Design. I was offered a job in NY straight out of college thanks to my focus on designing for the iPad (which had just been released), I worked in-house at a few different startups before going freelance in around 2015. These days I take on around 3 client projects a year, alongside ongoing consulting for a startup, and I also have my own loungewear brand that I pull a small salary from too. I charge projects on a fixed flat fee (see below advice on selling your time), mutually agreed upon scope, and a fixed timeline. So clients know what they’re getting, when they’re getting it, and how much they’re paying, before I move a pixel. Most of my projects range between $50,000–$100,000 generally speaking. How do I price each project if I don’t charge per hour? I use time as a starting point but as a tool to help me reach a flat fee to charge. I use the largest increments of time that I can as a general weighting for how ‘big’ the project is. Is this a two month project, or a 6 week project? – granted you have to be experienced enough to accurately gauge this from the outset, which I am, but understand everyone isn't. Then I layer in the most important context; who is the company, how valuable is the work, how well funded are they, how much will this move the needle for their company? i.e. how much value am I creating. Then I position the price in the market lower than a small design studio, but higher than the avergae freelancer. This is more of an art than a science, granted, but hte most important first step to getting paid properly is moving away form horuly rates, make the time increments increasingly larger so you're not tracking minutes. A random smattering of advice advice: 1. Only put in your portfolio the kind of work you want to do more of, be intentional about what you show, don’t put in everything, 8-10 projects max. 2. Whether you think you need one or not, have a portfolio website, even if you’re (“too busy”), not having one makes it much harder for people to refer/share your work and return to it. 3. Dealing with clients is 50% of being a designer. GET GOOD AT IT. It will make you a better, and more successful designer (they are different things). 4. Presenting your work is vital, you need to be able to communicate well and sell your work to the client. Set aside time before you share client work (always in person/over zoom, never just email it) to think about what you want to say and what is important to the client. When I say sell I don’t mean like a used car salesman, but like a professional providing a service, which is what you are. 5. Always agree on the scope of work clearly up front, and put it in a signed agreement. NEVER start work without an agreed upon scope. 6. Always get a deposit upfront before you start. I do 50%, but could be less, just get something. 7. Don’t be afraid to talk about money. It should be the one of the FIRST things you talk about with a client. ‘What’s the budget you have for this?’ Is an easy question to ask. Be confident about doing so. 8. I know it’s hard when you’re starting out, but, as much as you can you should move to NOT SELLING YOUR TIME. Charging per hour is a broken system for design/creative work. You are not a plumber, how long it takes to construct a design does not equal the value of that design work. It is bad for both sides, you and client. You have a genius idea that doesn’t require a lot of production work, and you nail it in a day, but that means you get paid less because you did a good job. Works the other way round too, if you’re having a creative block on a project and it takes you way longer than it should, the client gets penalized. Don’t sell your time. Sell the value your design creates. The best step you can take towards this is not charge per hour, that’s the worst thing you can do. Make the increments of time bigger; move to charge in days or half days, then eventually move to weeks, and finally just use time as a loose starting point to price your projects. 9. Pay attention to the zeitgeist, design has to assimilate into culture, often design creates culture! – know what is happening in the world, in art, in fashion, in politics, in technology. It was me paying attention to culture unfolding thousands of miles away which landed me a job out of college. 10. Being freelance when you’re early in your career is HARD. I generally advise new designers to try and get a job, put yourself in a position to learn form others and get a steady paycheck while doing so. Getting paid to learn is a good situation to be in! 11. Everyone starts somewhere, and doing small gigs, album art, posters and flyers is an awesome area to cut your teeth. But in terms of building wealth and moving towards financial independence, that's a hard path to take if you don't evolve. If your'e early in your career and wokring in this arena, and want to progress to a more lucrative path, I'd highly reocmmend checking out the 'Brand Designer' roles out there in the startup world, tehre's some great fullfilling gigs out there that will teach you a lot, and pay decent money doing so. Learn the space, research the companies, see what their output is like, and push yourself that direction if it interests you. As a freelancer you'll only earn as much as your clients are able to spend on design, and some industries are simply better funded than others. 12. Maybe most improtant is be a pro. Do what you say you're going to do, when you say it. Be polite, be on time, set expectations, communcate clearly, be reliable, honest oh, and be NICE :),13 yearsno logos in isolation$50,000–$75,000 –
I generally prefer to do a brand identity with at least one concrete deliverable, such as homepage, so this price would reflect that piece too, and often a few other contexts to visualize the brand. But the core idenity pieces and defining the visual language are the brunt of the work.$30,000 – $80,000 – depending on the wbesite scope, a big ecommerce website can easily be $80k.

GeoI specialize in Branding, Motion Grpahics and Concept art. Oftentimes they ask what is my rate, and I give them the highest price possible depending on work (bigger work, more $). If it's a rush job, I add in 30%. If they ask for files, I add buyout fee of 10-20%. I break it down initially in the contract, so they know what they are paying for. 61.2-2k for 12 concepts and 3 revision$10k min for 1m of work$400 per day, per concept$400 per day, min 3 days of work with 1 rev

HARRY VINCENTHave paperwork. Timelines. Late Fees. Invoice people 50% upfront. Never send files unles all payments have been made. Fuck Paypal. Never agree to 'Work For Hire' terms as a freelancer. Be specific in what your client is getting (1080x1080 JPG etc. Use your own native currency for payments, don't pander to a client. Taxes exitst, so when you're pricing always take into account that you're not getting 100% of that money - It's more like 75%.7 as a Designer - 2 as Freelance full-time$90-120 depending on the client£1,200 ≈ $5,000£3,600 ≈ $4,600£480 ≈ $630This fluctuates a lot based on usage. Clients should NOT own t-shirt/merch artworks outright unless you wer WELL compensated for. They make so much money. People aren't buying a blank t-shirt - they're buying your artwork.Books and stuff depends on pages. N/ASingle-only £750 ≈ $970 Album £4,000 ≈ $5,200 (Client does not own it though) Depends, would normamly just fit this on a day-rate thing,Usualy this is time-based + the usages. IBRRAHey guys! This was page was a huge help for me as someone who started freelancing in 2020 but have been in design school sicne 2016 and didnt feel more comfortable with my design capabilities until 2019 as I started getting to the style I was aiming myself to be in. I actually developed my rates thanks to seeing how everyone valued themselves here. The following rates are my new rates until I feel I have grown even more to be at the rates of some of you guys out there. I was always scared of throwing my rates out because I was worried I was overextending myself or making myself not available to clients because of my prices, but I know I'm not going to get any better at getting my rates respected until I hold these standards to myself as well of my worth. Thank you guys again! AMEEENNNNNN !!!3Los Angeles, USAN/A300$4,000 minimumt$200N/A350350400Lyric Videos -- $500 x x looping, with all the lyrics — 1 week2,000400

Jay (@j.crsp)Prolific technical artist for around 10 years, started commissions for friends at around 12 (now 21). I've designed school and event shirts, posters, brochures. Worked at a paint & sip franchise as an instructor. I started doing digital within the last couple years. My advice is definitely to be prolific with your work and to be wise about the people you accept high value commissions from.9+31200-400, +50/variantN/A but willing depending on what's needed, min $500150$100-200, +royalties/sales if commercial200250+ royalties/sales300 + royalties/sales45/hr, + royalties/sales if commercial400 + royalties200 < this girl needs to charge more.
