@hannahxh2oWow I'm getting fucked over $15/hour. I guess know your worth for me, this category is different because I like to support growing bands if I like their music and they don't have the financial support of a label. for those clients, $600-$800 depending on complexity and whether they're doing merch. for a big name with a label, min $3K.

Jean (@jeanisasasa)I'm a self taught graphic designer & illustrator with experimental and abstarct style in hand. I had just started diving into the graphic design world, it's been 2 years working as a freelance graphic designer which gave me amazing opportunities to do different kinds of projects ranging from music posters design, merchandise, to drawing illustrations. I am on my sophmore year of highschool in which I still have a lot to learn, but as a young artist, I have different perspective and creative skills in which most people dont have.Starting from 100k IDRStarting from 250k IDR45k IDR for headshot, 75k IDR for half body, and 100k IDR for full bodyStarting from 350k IDRStarting from 250k IDRDepends on the difficulty of the illustration, but usually ranging from 250k IDR - 1.5k IDRStarting from 150k IDRStarting from 350k

My pricing really depends on the client, projects and their budget. These are the recently revised minimum rates I charged for smaller artists/business (and I'm hoping to follow). 3 revisions, 50% deposit upfront, 20% kill fee mid way, 20% for extra revisiomin $500 but that's for really small/independent things. I have done posters for large events that pay anywhere from $3-9K.min $500 but that's for really small/independent things. I have done posters for large events that pay anywhere from $3-9K.for me, this category is different because I like to support growing bands if I like their music and they don't have the financial support of a label. for those clients, $600-$800 depending on complexity and whether they're doing merch. for a big name with a label, min $3K. editorial: min $450 per illustration (except sometimes newspaper clients who come back with a lot of work). editorial rates are often quite set so different publications pay differently. magazine covers are often $2-3K. for commercial work, the range is enormous and again depends primarily on client and usage. I've done a small project for $3K and larger projects for $50-80K.budgets are often more strict when publishing houses are involved. and there are often tons of revisions. seems like $2-$4K works, but I'm new to this category. I think it should be more.

I live in Germany and I do a little bit of freelance design work while I'm still in school. I haven't really worked together with big partners or anything and I don't really know how to market myself well... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ADVICE: Know how to market yourself well and build a network200+250+ (excluding licensing), sometimes with 20% commission, 250+ for album art, 150+ /items needed (social media, adaptations, poster ect)150-200 (in a set of 3 posts)
17
$250-500could do a small tshirt that will be given away for $500. if it will be sold (unless for legit nonprofit/charitable purposes) the price will be way higher and depends on the client. usually an illustration won't just be for a tshirt. if a client wants to use it for promo, merch, campaigns, etc. or to buy the full rights to use in perpetuity, the cost can get up to or even exceed $10K for one illustration. always get it in writing what your stuff will be used for. we don't need to be giving huge companies assets they own and can use for all time to promote and sell their products for a couple hundred dollars. this is really a caveat for all the categories.

IBRRAHey guys! This was page was a huge help for me as someone who started freelancing in 2020 but have been in design school sicne 2016 and didnt feel more comfortable with my design capabilities until 2019 as I started getting to the style I was aiming myself to be in. I actually developed my rates thanks to seeing how everyone valued themselves here. The following rates are my new rates until I feel I have grown even more to be at the rates of some of you guys out there. I was always scared of throwing my rates out because I was worried I was overextending myself or making myself not available to clients because of my prices, but I know I'm not going to get any better at getting my rates respected until I hold these standards to myself as well of my worth. Zion Wuxinyi (@zw.creatives)Full time & freelance designer specializing in Visual Brand Identity.

3 Tips:
Tip 1: Specialize and aim to be really good at one thing. You'll always wipe out other options and can charge more for your expertise.

Tip 2: Talk to people, comment on others posts, share your work. Be remembered and be top of mind. It helps with bringing in leads.

Tip 3: Find ways to make your work or services better even by just a little bit every time you have a new client. It brings up your value as a designer and can lead to better clients and better rates.

AlanaFrom a music industry perspective: I've worked in studios for most of my time while freelancing on the side from a range of clients, independent & signed. Always push for 50% deposit up front and a kill fee of 20-30%. Charge more for those signed at a label. Create your own scope of work and make the client sign so everyone's on the same page. Also, charge a rush fee (1.5x -2x your normal rate) if the deadline is super tight. For tour posters, include a max amount of revisions for when the poster is finalized. It's inevitable during COVID that tour dates get pushed back/rescheduled and they need an updated poster. After they reach the max, start chargin baby :$$100$500 min (I throw in social media banners & story resizing for free if they're independent or low budget)CD/Vinyl Packaging $300 min for packaging alone, more if I'm designing the materials for the packaging.$300 min

SunsetFelidFull-Time Illustrator. If I've learned anything from this, its that I'm undercharging. If I have any advice to give, its to set deadlines for yourself and break down projects into smaller objectives, to make them easier to complete. Don't take jobs you aren't confident you can complete within your deadline; that is to say, don't push yourself over any edges, know your limits. Communicate clearly and often with clients. 🦫Graphic Designer and illustrator. Full-time freelancer right now. Honestly, if you're not from a first world country it can be quite hard to find good (well-paying) clients. Clients from developing countries pay ass when it comes to design. Good design isn't valued here. The cheaper you are, the more likely they'll get you even though your designs aren't good. It's quite sad! (Most of the rates I placed are based on what I charge International clients)$25-30$150$250 min$150$150$80-$200$15-25 per post100 (this def should be more lol)$50

Abbie & HarryGraphic design duo, with degrees in Graphic Design and Illustration. Started working together in 2012, started a studio in 2018. Technically been designing for 10 years, but officially as a studio for 4. Brief (6 months) experience in the London design scene before starting our own studio up.

We charge in three different ways (inspired by a talk I hosted once with Aries Moross):
1. Silly money: Charging for the maximum, mainly for projects that are going to be a pain/they have the budget and we're saving their asses. Making profit on the work we do.
2. Spot on the money: Charging what it should be/how long it takes to actually do so. We often do this for projects we think we can make something cool for but maybe don't know the client very well yet.
3. Lose money on purpose: Charging less than we should, but usually for clients we know personally, and that will let us go nuts on the design. We will usually ask for a deal on top like free coffee for a year or money to spend in a shop.

Underpromise and overdeliver, trust the process, and be kind to each other.

Percy @pbatalierAs someone with a F/T job, I freelance whenever I have the mental and logitistical bandwidth to do so. If you freelance on the side as well, always know your limits and when to pass it to another person; we're all in this together and should always strive to uplift each other 💜

For workflow-specific advice, always make sure your communication skills are dialed in! You don't need to be extremely responsive 24/7, but setting baseline expectations to clients can mitigate any unnecessary stress
Hourly + $50/hr (to help compensate for total render times)

Benji TaylorFreelance Designer and Editor for Music, Fashion & Live Events Culture.

Previous clients include: Sony Music UK, Warner Music UK, LVMH, TAG Heuer, Porsche.

If you want corporate style work gigs, look for recruiters posting out contracts on LinkedIn & email them, even if (& most times this may happen) they fill the position before you enquire, they will have your info so this at least starts a dialogue, contact them at least once a month, if even just to say hi, be friendly :). If you want to design for Music Artists or merchandise, start going to events & making friends in your local music community, search for & contact design directors at record labels on instagram & post consistent work to help start a converstation & also build your own community.

When on call with a client, listen intently a lot more than you speak, get genuniely excited about their project, almost as much as they are.

ALWAYS be prepared with documents (work contracts, portfolios of different types of work, invoice templates, 'Scope Of Work' templates). Get 50% deposits paid upfront, you are worth the money, trust & investment.

Fast, Cheap, Quality. Your client can only pick two.

Include (at minimum) info about kill fees, distribution fees, rush fees, project file handover fees & late payment fees in your contract.

susHello, I'm a graphic design graduate. I worked for a while as a freelancer, But mostly worked for people that I knew so I was struggling and didnt know whats that prices for everything. A friend of mine recommended that I shouldn't start working on the project until they client pays a deposit first. she told me that she prefers to take 50% before working and the other 50% just on the day of submitting the work and that some other people take 50 % before working then 25%and 25% at the end. Also its better to mention how many amendments are you going to do ( for example 3 amendments and if they need more they'll have to pay extra fees for it.). Lastly make sure that you both agree on a deadline.rdsno experience but i guess i will be charging at least $150 per design?$70 (i think i charge too less)$300 for wireframe and basic design no experience but i will charge $200 at least $100 (perdesign)-$250 above (depends on difficulty and length)-$15 perpost $250 for logo / profile ---$75

KelseyBFA in graphic design, working full-time as designer/art director/design director since 2009, part-time before that for 3 years. I have a full-time well-paying job, so my freelance projects are only things I'm excited about and have the luxury of not worrying about "making a living" off of and can therefore charge perhaps less than if I was freelance fulltime. Hourly/project rate depends on timing, how excited I am about the project, how easy the client is to work with. That said, I still make sure to charge enough to justify giving up nights/weekends!

$50 an hour for small-mid sized organizations. $80-100 for larger agencies/brands. Do plenty of work for free or trade as long as I have creative control and I enjoy supporting what they do. Doing that work has always led me to more paid work.

SchriërI work in a high cost of living small town. Lots of non-profits and restaurants. I always give an estimate range on projects expected $500. Brand new businesses and 501c3 non-profits get a discount. Large established companies get a higher estimate (more people involved, and it's worth more to them). ADVICE: Respond to emails and deliver your work on time. That will put you above 80% of your competition. Under promise, over communicate and deliver exactly what you said you would. Clients want hand holding, but don't ever let them design over your shoulder.hourlyhourlyone hour per panel = $750 for a trifold; more for custom photography/illustration2500 +hourlyhourlyhourlyhourlyhourlyhourly

Remember, typography is the very-very-very-very-very significant element of graphic design :)
Be selective as possible. Work only on projects you'd love to. Don't underestimate the motivation the money gives you, it's crucial! You're a professional, not a slave. Any collaboration is mutually beneficial. Have faith in your skill, talent and creativity! Try to utilize every experience you got no matter positive or negative, and include it in your professional skills.

I've been working as a graphic designer my whole life, started from zero experience and got some in process. Before I finished art school in 2004, I'd decided not to make any commercial design/advertising, as it is pure torture for me, and worked as a pre-press officer for three years. Then I start my graphic design education, and since 2004, I've been working almost only in the cultural sphere.

Each project is unique, and I am not the shop to have any pricing.
