Before starting my current position in 2023, I had already transititioned out of teaching and adjuncting remotely during the pandemic, and into short-term administrative roles for various university research centers, which included: event planning (colloquia, speaker series, etc.), collaboratively managing research projects with colleagues from other academic units (e.g., academic libraries and archives), hiring and supervising teams for said projects, grant writing, and managing budgets and payroll. I am happy to conduct informational interviews or be part of larger conversations, and discuss challenges one might face in administrative roles at universities that are outside the professoriate, navigating the hiring process (e.g., differences between being an external and internal candidate for jobs; applying for jobs in vs. outside of higher education; what challenges are/aren't unique to higher education), cover letter and résumé formatting for non-academic jobs, etc. | ||||||||||||||||
