GENSHIN IMPACT • STORY & QUEST ORDER GUIDE

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE:
6
• Please open this guide from desktop or from the google docs app. Mobile browsers display the official art incorrectly and I've been unable to fix this.
7
• The order presented here is a suggestion. You can follow the guide 1:1 or just play in whatever order you like while consulting the guide to see what the game wants you to do when.
8
• The guide is meant to be no-spoiler as much as possible, but be aware that some minor spoilers might sneak in if you read ahead.
9
• There is a lot of linkspam: official videos, lore videos, fan content. These are are all optional. You do not have to engage with every bit of content in the guide. The guide is intentionally very dense but you the player can choose the level of depth you engage with the game at.
10
• Many quests are optional. Quests are color coded in a gradient (darker means more important) and there are also notes for the quests. You don't have to do every quest.
11
Quest importance: Archon Quests, as the central storyline, are always the most important. Quests required to unlock or progress Archon Quests are therefore also marked (by color) as "very important". Quests that reference our sibling, the country of Khaenri'ah, or the mysterious ancient history of Teyvat are also marked as important as they tie into the main story. Other important Teyvat lore is another step down in importance (the Archon War, old gods and such). I try to stay unbiased as much as possible.

13
TERMINOLOGY USED IN THE GUIDE:
14
Archon Quest / AQThese are the main storyline of the game.
15
Story Quest / SQThese are character focused side-quests. To accept one, go to the Quests menu, then to Story Quests. They vary from fluff to plot relevant. I have marked them in order of importance, a darker blue means more important.
16
HangoutThese are character focused side-quests for 4 star characters featuring branching paths. To accept one, go to the Quests menu, then to Story Quests. They are generally fluff.
17
World Quest / WQThese are side-quests that you accept from NPCs you meet in the world, they have a blue exclamation mark. Always accept them. Some are highly plot relevant.
18
Daily CommissionThese are daily side-quests. They unlock at AR12, you get 4 per day and 0-2 of them can feature an NPC quest, these are generally not plot relevant but can tie into other quests. Commissions are rng and not covered in this guide. You can set what country commissions are in from the Adventurer Handbook, and it is recommended to set the region you are currently exploring for immersion. Commissions give primogems, Adventure Rank experience and keys to unlock character Story Quests and hangouts.
19
EventThese are Story Quests that are not in the game anymore. They are often highly plot-relevant and are mentioned in the guide, but you will have to watch a playthrough, cutscene compilation or a recap of them. I've linked to recaps made by amazing community members where they were available.
20
Character DemoThe trailer for a character, it's called a "demo" because it also shows gameplay. Nearly every character has their own demo. In this guide character videos are placed after a character is introduced in the game but in such a way as to minimise spoilers.
21
Character Trailer/TeaserA short 2D animated teaser for a 5 star rarity character. Same as the character demos, these are placed after a character is introduced in the game but in such a way as to minimise spoilers.
22
Collected MiscellanyA gameplay showcase for a character featuring lore crumbs due to the narrator being a very significant character. Even if you are not interested in the gameplay details, it's worth watching the beginning and ending of these videos for the comments from the narrator.
23
EPA very chill music video. Hoyoverse sometimes posts videos featuring a character and some BGM that fits them.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR QUESTS:
44
Prioritise events even if you haven't done the prerequisites, use the Quick Start function until you're up to date. Events go away and never return. The Event prerequisites for current events as well as whether they spoil anything are marked in the guide.
45
Do not rush through the Archon Quest. Do the sidequests as you explore the region, not after you've finished the story.
46
• Accept all the side-quests as soon as you run across them (blue exclamation marks). Do them while you're exploring the area.
47
• Please be aware that Genshin Impact is easily a 200+ hour game. It's not meant to be finished fast. Lingering for days or weeks in a single area is normal. The worst thing you can do to your experience is trying to rush through content.
48
• You can unlock Story Quests and Hangouts using Keys, you get a new key every 2 days from doing daily commissions. Make sure you unlock something every 2 days as this will gate your progression if you follow the recommendations in this guide.
49
• When unlocking Story Quests, don't also accept them unless otherwise indicated. If you do it will lead to your quest log being clogged up and different quests conflicting with each other.
50
Hangouts are optional. Many Story Quests are optional too, they are marked in a gradient by how important they are.
51
Many World Quests should not be considered optional, the important ones are listed in this guide.
52
Genshin is primarily an open world exploration game. Story is important, but just running around blindly is just as if not more important. Don’t worry about being somewhere “too early”. If you want to run straight across the map to the farthest point, just do it.
53
A lot of lore is hidden in archive entries: books, weapon descriptions, artifact descriptions. I have tried to include the lore as well. Around halfway through Inazuma the game started assuming you read the lore as it comes out. Some character backgrounds only exist in these text entries, like those of Dvalin and Signora. This has been somewhat fixed later on.
54
55
SOME GAMEPLAY RECOMMENDATIONS:
56
• Always ascend World Level as soon as this is available.
57
• If you feel your characters are too weak in early game, level up their weapons and their artifacts starting from the Feather.
58
• Don't worry about farming artifacts until ~AR50. The only exception is Viridescent Venerer, try to get 4 random 4 star pieces of this whenever the domain becomes available, don't worry about stats, and equip it to your anemo character.
59
• Level up weapons before artifacts.
60
Do not use Fragile Resin until ~AR55, your future self will thank you. The other resources are not scarce.
61
• When you ascend world level, the level of your damage dealer should be maxed out (up to level 80) and the level of your supports should be about 10 levels lower.
62
• You can use level ups to heal to full health while exploring and during battles, this is a good way to keep progression more "RPG-like".
63
• The ideal exploration team has the following:
64
1 character who can break rocks (such as a claymore or Zhongli), 1 archer, 1 pyro character, one region specific character
65
Region specific:
Mondstadt - an anemo character.
Liyue - geo MC or Zhongli.
Inazuma - an electro character.
Sumeru (rainforest): a dendro archer (Collei or Tighnari), an electro character, a pyro character.
Sumeru (desert): a pyro character, an anemo character.
66
• since you only have 4 slots, look for role consolidation. For example, Amber is a pyro archer and she'll generally make your life easier in overworld. Sayu is an anemo claymore so she covers both rock breaking and Mondstadt anemo utility, as well as being able to make terrain traversal faster with her skill.
67
• Pick everything up. Everything.
