Population by broad age groups Dataset - v1 via Gapminder
2
About this fileThis file has multiple sheets with data for one or more indicators used by Gapminder. In this sheet below you'll first find an overview of the indicators (measures) and the list of underlying sources. The actual data we use, is found in the sheet(s) labeled "data-...".
This file is also a documentation of the data process. To follow how the data was transformed from the original sources, start in the sheet to the far right, which holds the input data. You can then follow the process step by step, by looking at the formulas in the sheets from right to left, until you reach the output in the "data-..." sheets.

Dataset description:Population by age group data have been imported from World Population Prospects 2017, produced by UN-population division. The Population by age group dataset contains annual estimates of population by five-year age group from1950 to 2015 and annual population by five years age groups projection from 2016 up to 2100. The source of the population estimates are mainly population , censuses, official estimates. The population projections are medium variant. We aggregated different age groups into three groups which are 0-14 years (these constitute children population),15-74 years (these are adults population) and 75 and over ( old poulation) for countries /territories for the period 1950 to 2100. In addition we calculated the regional and global total population by those 3 age groups. The data in this spreadsheet were used to respond two questions in the Global Misconception Survey (GMS 2017), which asked the number of children aged 0-14 years in 2100 compared to today number of children and the main raison of population increase in 2100 ( i.e if there will be more children, more adults or more old people). Accordingly to UN-pop the number of children in 2100 will not be higher than it is today and the main raison of population will result from the fact that they will be more adults.

For developersIf you like the data we use into your own products, it's better if you fetch data from our standardized gitHub repo on https://open-numbers.github.io
These spreadsheets are part of Gapminder's data compilation process and allow end users to track how we combine data.
