When someone continues to be disrespectful, ignore and seek support from a trusted adult. If you know you've been disrespectful to someone, make sure you stop and respect when someone tells you it's not okay. The Lady Warriors won both matches with perseverence and strong net play. We learned that there is a difference between someone being disrespectful or mean and bullying. Continue to demonstrate our expect respect strategies when faced with disrespect or bullying situations! The 8th grade girls played in a tournament over the weekend at Lake in the Hills and took 3rd place. Solid passing was completed by Isabel Ortega. Fast network was seen by Ashlyn Santos. Hard spiking was seen by Anabelle Deford and Kelsey Albovias. Excellent serving was seen by Claire Truss and Gianna Vavalle. Good job girls. Their next match will be tomorrow at home against Grass Lake. There will only be an 8th grade game and it will be played at 4:00. During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) we recognize the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning more about these contributions during announcements. Today, we recognize the famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. She painted 200 pieces of art, many being self portraits. She was knows as a feminist, and very politically active as well. Even though her art and her story were unacknowledged in her time, the most recent generations have embraced her for being the strong, powerful woman and artist she was, and she still plays a huge role in Hispanic heritage today because of it. María Eva Duarte was born in Argentina in 1919. Despite growing up poor, by the age of twenty she was a successful actress with her own entertainment business. In 1945 she married Juan Peron, who became president the following year. Eva Perón used her position as first lady to fight for causes she believed in, including women's suffrage and improving the lives of the poor. Peron was admired and respected by those she worked so hard for. Since her death in 1952, Peron has been the subject of many books and plays, including the musical, and film, Evita. Her story continues to inspire other to this day.Just a reminder, that today is the first STEM Club meeting. The defeated Grass Lake 25-4 in the first game and 25-14 in the second game. Aggressive network was seen by CeCe Palladino and Kylie Whyte, accurate passing was completed by Isabel Ortega and Doreen Lavajo, and excellent serving was seen by Gianna VaValle and Abby Capulong. Great job girls. They play their next match against Alden Hebron at home on Thursday. These girls have a lot to be proud about - they always played with integrity and great determination. Tim Timmery Kloss and Crater Kaye both scored 6 points, and Randall James Holm and Bobby Gray both scored 5 to lead a balanced scoring attack. Zeven Eleven Linbo and Mikel Saavedra both hit 2nd Quarter 3 pointers to help the team to a 24 to 10 halftime lead, and they cruised to victory from there. The team shot 8 for 12 from the free throw line to help solidify the win. The Warriors continue their conference season on Thursday with a road game at Park.

Mikel Saavedra's 10 points and Bobby Gray's 8 points led the Warriors in scoring, while Joe Joe Taylor's 9 assists to go with 6 points played a big role in the win. Karl Boon-Jay scored 4 with 6 rebounds, and RJ "The Comeback Kid" Holm pulled down 10 rebounds with 2 points in his first game back from injury. Zeven Eleven Linbo added 6 points in the victory. The Warriors will be participating in the Emmons Invitational Tournament this weekend, with their first game being tonight at 7:30 P.M. against Saints Peter and Paul.

The Warriors opened the tournament Friday night with a tough 35 to 33 loss against Saints Peter and Paul, then won all 3 games on Saturday by scores of 64-19 against Emmons, 63-18 against Stanton, and 53-19 against Montini. On Sunday, the Warriors played 3 very tough teams, beating Palombie 32-29, taking down Saints Peter and Paul 32-29, and then losing to tournament champion Park 38-35. In that last game, the Warriors came back from 15 down to take a late lead before finally losing the game.
