16 | Sunday sees the first London game of the season and the Bears are 5-point favourites against the Raiders at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Bears are without their starting quarterback Mitchel Trubisky, with Chase Daniel getting the start under centre. This is now becoming, albeit unplanned, my weekly column on who has the best, or worst, slot matchup per week. With wins in Week 2, 3 and 4 from Danny Amendola (under), Robby Anderson (under) and Jarius Wright (over) the last 3 weeks on the bounce (there was no slot matchup bet in Week 1). This week we are talking Anthony Miller vs. Lamarcus Joyner. The best matchup of the week. There’s no other way to put it, Joyner has been smoked in the slot so far this season. He has been in the slot on 118 snaps, been targeted 23 times and has given up 19 catches for 158 yards and a TD. That’s a reception every 6.2 snaps, the worst rate of any slot cornerback so far this season (out of 23 CBs who have played at least 70 snaps in the slot). His weekly yardage allowed from the slot is 72 (46 slot snaps, Broncos), 47 (65 slot snaps, Chiefs), 0 (16 slot snaps, Vikings), 39 (67 slot snaps, Colts). The game against the Vikings he was hardly on the field because they didn’t play very many snaps in a 3 WR formation. Anthony Miller is the Bears slot corner in 3 WR sets (with a bit of Robinson mixed in), and it’s fair to say he’s struggled a bit this year, with receiving yards of 0, 2, 15 and 11 in each game from 1, 1, 3 and 3 targets. However, his weekly percentage of passing snaps in which he has run routes is 19%, 47%, 63% and 74%. The trend is in the right direction, and just like last week, there is no Taylor Gabriel due to concussion. There’s no-one else to take his place. He will be on the field, running routes, in a good matchup, that’s all we need. I think he gets targets. | I may be letting heart rule my head on this one, but I think this could be a really entertaining game! It doesn’t mean I think the Bengals will win, although that would be lovely, but neither of these teams have been able to defend so far this season and both have some decent offensive weapons. The Cardinals are the quickest team in the league when it comes to getting plays out meaning that their games have more plays than any other this season so a lot more chances for both teams to score and defenses tire towards the end of games, allowing more points to be scored. The simple bet here would be Over 47 points, but that’s boring and not why you come to a prop comparison spreadsheet. The Bengals will be without speedster John Ross who is on IR, leaving them even thinner at WR this week. Tyler Boyd will be the main man but plays generally in the slot so it’s the big lad Auden Tate who I’ll be looking at to play up this weekend. He’s done well even with Ross there catching 10 passes in two weeks and this week you can get 2.25 on o4.5 receptions for him on Bet365 (just 1.83 on Skybet) against a poor Arizona secondary. (the 3.5 is long gone). On the Arizona side of the ball I think Kyler Murray will have a decent game with his legs. The Bengals are terrible at defending the run, especially with a little play-action or misdirection and if Kingsbury is sensible he’ll have been designing some specific run plays for Murray this week. He’s got a nice line of 23.5 for his rushing yards and has gone over that in the last two weeks. So I like the overs on that one, available at 365/PP. You may well have heard from everyone that the Cardinals are useless defending the tight end which should mean some targets and probably a touchdown for Tyler Eifert, he scored 13 in a season once upon a time before injuries ruined a couple of seasons for him and he should have got on the scoresheet last week vs the Steelers but dropped a catch in the endzone. He’ll have chances tonight and I’m hoping he gets right. | Well unfortunately my Boyd bet was a loser last week, though the Bengals performance was disappointing. Anyhow onto Week 5! The player I like the look of this week is Marlon Mack, currently you can get over 53.5 at Skybet. The Chiefs are giving up over 140 yards per game and this does not look like ending anytime soon. Every player that is going up against the Chiefs is having top performing days. Mack has shown behind that superb Colts O-Line that he can be a bell cow and produce some satisfying numbers. Mack is currently averaging over 4.5 yards per carry and has also carried the ball 74 times so far this season. Mack comes into the game banged up which is always a concern, but this has been the case the last couple of weeks and he has still performed to a high standard. It’s scary when you think of a Chiefs game and teams having to pass to keep them close, but as long as the Chiefs don’t go and put up 21 in the first quarter I think we will get enough carries out of Mack to cover this line, 53 is not a burden on a running back who should see plenty off the ball. In last seasons play-off game Mack got 46 on just 9 carries, this was where the Chiefs got off to a hot start and the Colts had to pass to try and get back into it, I think the Colts will be well up for this game after how they were beat in the playoffs last season, hopefully Mack can get us back into the green. | |||||||||||||||||||
