If small numbers are given and i'm supposed to find a larger number that is similar between all of them, I use the LCM method.

When it asks to find the largest unit of measurement, ie. time, money, length, it is finding for the highest common factor.

For HCF the question will usually say this person has ?sweets and the other has ?+10 sweets then they will ask you to place the same number of sweets in each group to fit the least amount.

If the question is the question about 'catching up' or meeting at the same time, then it is a LCM question.

If every variable is equal at first, then they change at the same times but in unequal amounts and I am supposed to find the next time the variables are equal, I will use LCM. If the question asks to find the greatest amount of something that is equal for all the variables, then I will use HCF.
