4 | Cultural Heritage | Events throughout the fall and spring with a culminating night in March or April | Celebrate all the diverse cultures, heritages and traditions represented at Doss! We want to expand this committee so are welcoming NEW ideas. We hope to have smaller in-classroom activities celebrating the cultures at school and beyond our walls. The culminating event will be a night of international music, arts and crafts, dance, stories, and international food. Volunteers are needed to help plan and coordinate the events and assist with event set up/break down. We are also looking for multi-lingual parents to read to our students in their native language during classroom time. | |||||||||||||||||||||
5 | Gallery Greats & Doss Arts | Year Round | Help enrich Doss Arts! Gallery Greats is an art enrichment program led by community and parent volunteers. The goal is to educate children on artists, their history and styles. All materials are provided! Ideally, these sessions would be monthly or every other month. We are also looking to enlist volunteers to assist the Doss art teachers with Artsonia (online Art showcase site) and to help with the school Art Auction. | |||||||||||||||||||||
6 | Literacy Library (1st Grade Book Room) | Year Round | Doss has over 5000 books in its Literacy Library that are used by our teachers so that our kids are able to read a variety of books that are reading-level appropriate. Volunteers catalog new books and check-in/shelve books as they’re returned. Scheduling is flexible – typically twice a month for about an hour at a time. | |||||||||||||||||||||
7 | Math Pentathlon | Year Round | Math Pentathlon is a program of interactive, problem-solving games that strengthen basic math concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and encourage good sportsmanship. The club is open to all grades and meets weekly after school. Based on grade level, students play five different strategy games that are more like chess or checkers compared to math fact drills. The club is staffed entirely by volunteers, and we need a ratio of one volunteer per 8 students. | |||||||||||||||||||||
8 | Friends of the Library, RADical Story Walk & Author Visits | Year Round (Library shifts are weekly) | Want to be in the midst of all that is happening in our beautiful library? Do you have 1-2 hours a week to spare? Volunteers will help our librarians with various projects throughout the year as well as routine library re-shelving and shelf management. The RAD Committee fosters a love of reading through activities such as author visits and reading programs throughout the year. Our goal is to provide diverse activities in order to make connections and spark interest across all of Doss. | |||||||||||||||||||||
9 | Read Naturally | Year Round (Weekly time commitment) | Want to help build self-confidence in the classroom and have meaningful one-on-one time helping kids? Volunteer for Read Naturally! Increasing reading fluency makes a big difference for a child -- it's simple and only takes 30 minutes of your time each week. You'll work with two students at a time and make a huge impact in their lives. If you're interested in the rewarding experience of helping our kids read better and excel in the classroom, please join our dedicated volunteers. | |||||||||||||||||||||
10 | Reflections | September-November | We are looking for members to encourage and celebrate participation in the arts through the PTA Reflections program. Students are recognized at the Local (Doss), Council (AISD), State and National PTA levels. An invitation to volunteer as judges will be sent out to the entire school in November. | |||||||||||||||||||||
11 | Science Fair | October-February | Help plan and execute our annual Doss Science Fair! Volunteers will help coordinate help sessions in the fall, assist with set-up the day before Science Fair, and recruit and check-in judges on the day of the event. An invitation to volunteer as judges will be sent out to the entire school in early January. | |||||||||||||||||||||
12 | Science Lab Supplies | Year Round | Help purchase & deliver items teachers have identified on a spreadsheet for monthly science and STEAM activities completed in the classroom and maker spaces. | |||||||||||||||||||||

14 | Book Fair | November | Come join the Book Fair team to help raise money for the Doss Library! Volunteers will help with planning for the week of activities surrounding the book fair along with transforming the library into a bookstore that fits the year's theme. 15 | Daughter Dance | January/February | The Daughter Dance Committee will work together to come up with a theme and bring it to life in the Doss cafeteria. Volunteers will help with decorations, getting snacks, securing vendors, setup and clean up. | |||||||||||||||||||||
16 | Hospitality | Year Round | This is the perfect place for working parents or those with time constraints who can’t help on campus during the day! The Hospitality Committee provides snacks and drinks for special events such as Parent-Principal Coffees, PTA Meetings, Retirement Receptions, Senior Walk Day, etc. You may help by picking up a carafe of coffee or snacks at the store, or if you have more time, you can help set up and serve (if needed). | |||||||||||||||||||||
17 | H'Owl Fall Festival | October | The H’OWL is our fall carnival and community-wide event for the whole family. This has been a Doss tradition for over 30 years! We are looking for key volunteers to help with planning in areas such as food & drinks, student volunteer coordination, and ticket and merchandise sales. Volunteers will also help on the day of the event (typically the Sunday prior to Halloween) with setup and clean up. | |||||||||||||||||||||
18 | Son Dance | February/March | The Son Dance Committee will work together to come up with a theme and bring it to life in the Doss cafeteria. Volunteers will help with decorations, getting snacks, securing vendors, setup and clean up. | |||||||||||||||||||||
19 | Sports-A-Rama | May | Sports-A-Rama is a fun filled day out on the Murchison track where the students get to "compete" amongst their classmates in friendly competitions. Volunteers will help set up and clean up as well as help manage the student volunteers running each station. | |||||||||||||||||||||
20 | Spring Party | October-April | Do you love to plan parties? Do you want to get involved in planning our school's largest (and adults only!) fundraiser of the year? Whether you have experience in event planning or just want to join a FUN committee, there is a place for you! We have a committee for everyone--decorations, auction, food and beverages, entertainment, sales, communication and marketing... The party takes place in the spring, but planning starts in the fall. | |||||||||||||||||||||
21 | Staff Appreciation | August, December & May | This is a marvelous committee for the time-challenged parent! We host various appreciation luncheons and breakfasts for our wonderful staff in August, December and May. 23 | Graphic Designers | As Needed | We want to establish a group of talented graphic designers in our midst. We might call on you for smaller projects like designing a backdrop for the dance all the way to designing the next awesome spirit shirt. 25 | Web Team | Year Round (busy times in August & April) | Do you have experience being a webmaster? Want to get involved at Doss but prefer to do your volunteer work outside of school hours? Responsibilities include making regular site updates, updating the online store, and occasional interaction with the hosting company, Experience with Wordpress, JotForm, and PayPal are a plus but not required. 27 | Hoot & Hammer (formerly 3-D (Doss Dependable Dads)) | Year Round as Needed | Calling all helpers that are handy with tools!! Become a part of a volunteer pool to help assist the PTA and staff with activities requiring trade skills, tools, or a little muscle. 28 | Doss Distribution Gang | Year Round as Needed | This is a NEW committee! We have a lot of committees that are a committee of one (or two) trusty parents that need help with distribution on one day (i.e. memory books, yearbooks, Sprout school supplies). 29 | Hoot Hoot Helpers | Year Round as Needed | This is a NEW committee. There are classes, teachers and staff (i.e specials, Special Education, health screenings, counselor initiatives, etc) that might need assistance for various ad hoc projects. 30 | Lost & Found | Year Round | Let’s face it…kids forget stuff! But the Lost & Found committee helps keep this area tidy and returns misplaced items more easily to our students. If you have a few minutes to hang clothes, check for names on misplaced items (so we can return them), organize lunch boxes or stack water bottles, we welcome your help! | |||||||||||||||||||||
31 | Outdoor Spaces | Year Round | Whether you're a Master Gardener or just enjoy playing in the dirt, we need your help making the grounds as exemplary as the education! Our main efforts center around 2-3 Campus Clean Up days where we rely on parent & child volunteers, but we are also looking for volunteers to assist with planting, watering and maintaining our beautiful, unique garden space and new outdoor learning spaces. | |||||||||||||||||||||
32 | Parent Education | Year Round | The Parent Education Committee was formed to host events designed for parents to learn about relevant and timeline topics. Volunteers for this committee might help think of ideas, procure speakers, help with event logistics and get the word out about events. | |||||||||||||||||||||
33 | Sister School | Year Round | Traditionally Doss helps another school within AISD with a less robust PTA with various drives such as clothing, supplies (masks, water bottles, etc), classroom wishlists. 35 | No Hassle Chair(s) | September/October | Who wants to go door-to-door selling wrapping paper or candy bars? NOT US! The No Hassle chair/co-chairs will get the word out about our no hassle fundraiser for the PTA. Chairs will use BidPal to collect donations, create email content to distribute and think of a FUN event when the goal is met! | |||||||||||||||||||||
36 | Doss Spirit Day/Retail Event Chair | Year Round | This chairperson will schedule our fun Doss spirit nights at area restaurants. The PTA also gets money back from other avenues such as Randall's, Amazon, minted as well as a few other retailer. This chair will get the word out to try to bring in "easy money" for the PTA. | |||||||||||||||||||||
37 | Social Media Chair | Year Round | If you are social media savvy and love posting to Facebook and Instagram, this is the role for you. The chair will work closely with the PTA president and Vice President to make sure all upcoming events are advertised and events as they happen are showcased on social media. 38 | Grade Level Coordinators | Year Round | Grade Level Coordinators (GLCs) work with the lead grade level teacher and the lead room parents from each class in that grade to coordinate events, projects, field trips and communicate it all to the parents with a student in that grade. This position is best served by a parent that has previous lead room experience. | |||||||||||||||||||||
39 | Spout School Supplies | August, March-April | This chair coordinates the school supply lists with the grade level teacher leads and our school supply vendor, Sprout. They then help with delivery and distribution of all supply boxes to classrooms beore the first day of school. | |||||||||||||||||||||
40 | Homeroom Memory Books | Year Round but busiest in April | This chair makes sure each homeroom has a memory book lead as well as trains those leads on how to create a memory book in Shutterfly. The chair also coordinates collection, ordering and the distribution of memory books at the end of the year. | |||||||||||||||||||||
41 | Yearbook | Year Round but busiest in March/April | This chair collects pictures from throughout the year from all events and grades. They create the Doss school yearbook for that academic year. | |||||||||||||||||||||
