PURPOSE: Tests provide an introduction to the discipline of Western Dressage; the horse performs only at the walk and jog. The rider should demonstrate correct basic position, use of basic aids, and understanding of the figures. The horse should show relaxation; and harmony between horse and rider is important. The horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider. The jog should be a natural gait within the horse's scope and should demonstrate a swinging back.RIDER #10547-1Link:

On a diagonal line put 2 cones about 4 feet apart on either side of X & 1/4 lines so you have to ride between them for a K-X-M line. You will have to looke ahead in the turn and turn the shoulders at K. Keep both legs on and ride from your legs straight between the quarter line, centerline the the last quarter line cones/poles. Concentrate on making better use of steering from your legs. Keep your hands closer together, when wide one tends to retract them. Practice riding down the centerline and focus on A and see if you can keep your horse straight from your legs. Practice the medium walk and don't let the poll drop below the withers, this is tending towards free walk. Try riding several 10m circles in the corner at K then turn up the centerline to improve accuracy. Repeat at F several 10m circles then turn up the centerline. This will improve lateral suppleness and develop a straighter centerline at the start. When approaching a corner remember keep your legs on so he doesn't slow. This is a natural inclination of a horse so to keep a steady tempo one as to anticipate and put your leg on.
