Reading Partners, 916 N Charles St #250, Baltimore, MD 21201 http://readingpartners.org/volunteer/(443) 835-1568http://readingpartners.org/volunteer/Reading Partners is dedicated to unlocking the skills of students who struggle with reading. We provide one-on-one reading instruction to elementary school students reading below grade level to help them succeed in school and in life.
Reading is the foundation for future learning. In order to learn, students must be able to read. Without reading, kids don’t have an equitable chance at success. We believe that regardless of their environment, given the right support and resources, all kids can learn to read.
A national 501(c)3 nonprofit, we partner with under-resourced schools and engage volunteer reading partners (community tutors) to help students who struggle with reading unlock and develop the foundational skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
An evidence-based and community-driven organization, we recruit and train volunteers to work one-on-one with students for 45 minutes twice a week, following a structured, research-based curriculum.
Our program model works and is backed by evidence-based research which proves that our students make significant gains in reading. On average, Reading Partners’ students more than double their rate of learning while in the program.
Volunteer: Every day, thousands of volunteer reading partners make a lifelong difference for kids who struggle with reading. More than simply reading with a child, our volunteers follow a proven, structured curriculum to help students learn specific skills necessary to become proficient readers. It’s simple, and it works. Each lesson comes with step-by-step instructions and materials. A trained site coordinator is always available to answer questions, assist with the materials, and solve problems.http://readingpartners.org/volunteer/ Lead a Book Drive: http://readingpartners.org/take-action/lead-a-book-drive/

The Y's Reach & Rise mentoring program is in need of positive, responsible adults who want to volunteer their time to make a difference in a young person's life. BE A MENTOR and help build the futures of Central Maryland's youth.
Reach & Rise is a Y mentoring program that matches adult volunteers to young people who need the presence of reliable, responsible and caring adults in their lives. The Y provides all the necessary tools and resources needed: comprehensive training, hundreds of Y activities and events for you and your mentee to participate in, FREE one-year youth or adult membership to the Y while in the program. All activities take place within a Family Center Y or Y-staffed event or program. Mentors receive ongoing support and supervision from Y staff who are trained family therapists or social workers. The families of the mentees are also included in the mentoring process, so all parties are engaged and working towards a common goal.

Bolton Hill Nursery (410) 728-0003 or (410) 669-3668boltonhillnursery@yahoo.comThe Mission of Bolton Hill Nurseryis to provide a warm and encouraging atmosphere that enhances self-concept, instills basic moral values, encourages social interaction, and enriches awareness of the natural and cultural world. We believe children learn through their play.
Staff members strive to be aware of each child’s needs and learning readiness, and attempt to meet these needs through a wide range of preschool activities. Through art, music, nature, creative movement, sensory materials, free and dramatic play, cooking, science, stories, field trips, and outdoor play, the children explore the environment and become knowledgeable and comfortable in their interactions with the world.
With an emphasis on verbal enrichment during the preschool years, we make the most of opportunities to interest the child in books and words, providing varied play-based experiences, to prepare the child emotionally, socially, intellectually, and educationally for the formal school years.

We have added the component of preparing our students in critical non-cognitive areas as well including executive function, perseverance and leadership. (410) 523-4161
E-mail: mdemek@archbalt.orgWe are a vibrant community committed to celebrating our faith in Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic tradition. We practice that faith by worshiping with joy and calling, addressing issues of social justice, supporting families with children, promoting women’s leadership, reaching out to gay and lesbian Catholics, and extending hospitality to all who seek a welcoming home in the Roman Catholic Church. We who gather at Corpus Christi are called into the Body of Christ. Alone we acknowledge our incompleteness; together we experience our wholeness as a people of God. Our journey of faith opens us up to opportunities for collaborative ministry, the pursuit of justice, and the celebration of our diversity. Strengthened by the Spirit, we accept our calling to be a church that affirms the grace of our baptism into Christ's death and resurrection. We acknowledge that we share in the transformation of the world through Eucharist, reconciliation, and prophetic witness to God's justice and peace.
In discernment of our particular calling as a parish community, here and now, we take up these challenges:

• To be good news for one another, for the communities to which we are joined, near and far, and for the stranger in our midst, always looking for opportunities to be hospitable and supportive;
• To worship with prayer and purpose, celebrating our communion in Christ through life-giving liturgy and collaborative ministry that encourage full and active participation by all;
• To nurture in one another a deep and responsive faith through programs of education and spiritual formation that inspire Christian witness at all stages of life;
• To extend ourselves in service to each other, to the wider community, and to the world through personal and communal acts of justice and mercy;
• To care for and cultivate all that God has entrusted to us by the wise and generous use of our resources of time, talent, and treasure.

Memorial Episcopal Church is an urban church in the city of Baltimore and a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Over the past 30 years the parish has become a place of diverse theological viewpoints, where members take an inquiring approach to their faith. On Sunday mornings we have a choice of joining in worship in either a traditional or a contemporary service.

Our church has developed into a parish where openness and acceptance are the norm, and diversity is encouraged. Most of our members hold liberal or progressive views on social issues. It is a parish where people of all ages, races, marital status, sexual orientations, and backgrounds come together to worship God. Services are lively and participatory, with a variety of musical offerings. In recent decades, in its response to the changes occurring around us in the world, Memorial has been a force for constructive change within the Diocese of Maryland.

We describe ourselves as “a diverse community, worshiping God and serving people.” We try to live up to that vision every day, and we hope that you will think about joining us for worship or become involved in our community.
Welcome to The Samaritan Community, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in Baltimore City, Maryland. We provide assistance to meet the needs of families and individuals who are in crisis and wish to improve their lives. Our program is rooted in respect, hope, and healing.

We are a small organization with a BIG impact. Our Food Pantry, Clothing & Household Goods "Shop", Individual & Group Counseling, Emergency Financial Assistance, and Enrichment Programs enable our members to face both short-term crises and long-term challenges.

Church Office
1601 N. Calhoun Street
New Song is a holistic approach to neighborhood development known as “church-based Christian community development (CCDA).” Initiated in 1988, we have grown to a staff of more than 80, mostly from the neighborhood, administering numerous programs. While our neighborhood, Sandtown-Winchester in West Baltimore, encompasses 72 square blocks, our concentration is a 15-block focus area in the north-central section of the community. Here we are eliminating all vacant houses and providing various programs and opportunities which foster empowerment. In discernment of our particular calling as a parish community, here and now, we take up these challenges.Accepts monetary donations here: http://nscommunity.org/donate/Accepts monetary donations here: http://nscommunity.org/donate/

Whitelock Community Farm www.whitelockfarm.org 922 Whitelock St., Suite 4, Baltimore, MD 21217410-205-6572farmer@whitlockfarm.orgThe farm began in 2010 when Reservoir Hill residents converted a vacant lot into an active urban farm with the help of hundreds of volunteers. The continued support of neighbors and the wider community has spirited our vision to improve access to healthy food. The farm serves as a model community based project showing that providing neighborhoods access to land and resources is a sustainable way of revitalizing urban environments and building communities.
OUR MISSION - The goals of the Farm are to: pursue affordable sustainable fresh food sources, provide neighborhood job creation, and help revitalize the neighborhood through greening and positive community activity. The farm also implements its mission through farm-based learning programs such as gardening and cooking classes for children and adults. We believe that everyone has a right to affordable, healthy, quality food accessed in a way that is environmentally sustainable and socially just.

Community Arts Collaborative - Americorp & MICASarah Edelsburg,
CAC Program Manager
Sedelsburg@mica.eduHoused in the Office of Community Engagement at MICA, this program places community artists in year-long residencies with nonprofits, schools, and community centers in Baltimore City. The work of CAC member artists provides children, youth, and adults with the benefits of after-school arts-based learning experiences and strengthens neighborhoods through community art projects."There are a few donations that we are always looking for in the program! One that comes to mind is that we are always looking for gently used (or new) laptops. Many of the community organizations that serve as sites in our program do not have enough computers, and sometimes our CAC-AmeriCorps member there does not have a computer to work from, in order to write lesson plans and work on special projects. We sadly don't have the budget to buy a laptop for the program, but a donated one would be an incredible support."

We are also looking for donations to support the Spray Paint LAB: http://www.dickblick.com/ara/lists/6304/home
