Essentials and Key Concepts
16
The purpose of the essentials and key concepts is to answer the question What is it we want our students to learn?
17
An essential is what each student should know and/or be able to do at the end of the course or grade level.
18
The key concepts are the underlying knowledge and skills necessary to attain the essentials
19
Connections are made when essentials and key concepts are aligned with state standards.
20
Other connections are made to the Common Core, 21st Century Skills, Rigor/Relevance, etc.
21
Essentials ensure that students are well prepared to demonstrate proficiency on state, district, and norm-referenced assessments.
22
Assessment of key concepts provide timely feedback on each student's performance so students who are struggling can be provided additional time and support for learning.
