Barry-EatonJennifer Foxjfox@bedhd.orgOur BF month event was called Growing a Village and rather than doing an event in each county, we split the difference and held the event in Nashville, which sits in the middle. We tried a 4-7 timeframe and that did seem to bring more people, but it was in a spot that wasn't very visible. It gave us some good things to work on for next year. We have continued to attend our local Centering program and we have continued to see clients in WIC and at Baby Cafe from our Centering work. We are doing outreach to local medical offices, offering to present to staff meetings to update information from the HD in general as well as focusing on WIC since it is WIC staff that is doing the outreach. We have had a few of the offices take us up on the offer to visit them, rather than just drop off information.

DHD #10Janelle McGinnisjmcginnis@dhd10.orgWith our Community Engagement Funding we hosted an event for National Breastfeeding Month in Newaygo County on August 6th called Mommy & Me in the Park. This event included speakers, lunch and a raffle for door prizes which had been donated. The funding provided a Mom Strong water bottle and nutrition themed insulated bag. 45 people attended, incuding 14 families with 35 people total, 3 community partners, 3 other DHD#10 progra representatives, 2 Newaygo County BF coalition members and 2 WIC staff. We also had our Breastfeeding Quick Links guide printed and will be distributing to other DHD#10 programs and medical practices. We have a stable BFPC staff and continue to visit 3 birthing hospitals in our jurisdiction. Diane Shelton, the BFPC manager, will be retiring in January after 6 years in Michigan and 29 in Georgia.

We are in the implementation process of our Father's as Breastfeeding Champions group which is being funded by a BCBS grant we received. We have been receiving nominations and the excitement from clients has been wonderfully encouraging! I will be attending the NWA NE/BF conference in Atlanta in Novemeber and excited to be participating in a national conference. Currently hiring for either a CLS or BFPC within the department and myself along with two BFPCs, a RD and Nutritionist from our agency took the CLS training and now hold the credential.

It was a great opportunity for clients and community members to get resources and the BF team to continue to build connections with the community. Our "Every Ounce Counts" breastfeeding classes are continuing to run smoothly with client participation. We are hiring a BF Peer Counselor, the job posting is currently active on SEMHA's website and closes 10/18. I was also recently able to take the CLS course and pass the exam, so I am excited to better support my team!

MarquetteLinda Marshalllmarshall@mqtco.orgWe hosted our annual Community Breastfeeding Celebration on August 1. We collaborated with the UP Children's Museum and held the event in their courtyard. We had several donations of prizes to give away, and we had families come from hours away to join us. We were able to work with a few families who were having breastfeeding difficulties, and saw families who have been attending for several years. Currently working on our plans for 2027, including revamping our annual event to include a small resource fair and working on our virtual breastfeeding and pumping class schedules to meet families needs. One of our Peers is finishing up her CLC training, which will mean that both of our Peers will hold that credential.

We also participated in the fall harvest Rock n’ Rest tent on 10/2/2026 at the Chippewa Nature Center. We will be participating in the Midland County Baby shower on 10/9/2026.

Starting in October, our team will visit provider offices to ensure they have all our updated resources. Although we are down one Peer Counselor due to maternity leave, we have successfully maintain contacts. Additionally, one RD and PC completed CLS training, and we continue to offer monthly breastfeeding classes. Finally, we recently received United Way grant funding for breastfeeding resources in two of our counties and are actively planning how to utilize these funds.

Our breastfeeding classes have been well attended both in-person and virtual. We are starting to build new relationships with a restructured OB practice in Petoskey and our local hospital. We have been invited to attend an open house in November with Mclaren OB-GYN and McLaren Northern Michigan hospital. We are grateful to have the opportunity to attend the OA grant offerings.

We will offer a virtual 12 PM class and a 5 PM class. We are also striving to have each of our staff members attend a BF class in fiscal year 2027 to increase staff knowledge and buy-in. Our Baby Cafe support group is still offered weekly. Lastly, we are hiring a Public Health Nutritionist III, which will be the new Breastfeeding Program Coordinator. OLHSAPorlai Lorporlail@olhsa.orgWe had a successful Bridging the Breastfeeding Gap event with OCHD-WIC and our staff 5k walk in support of breastfeeding during breastfeeding month, and are thinking about possibly including our clients in the future. Much has slowed down since August, but we removed our third peer position and are currently working on how to increase attendance for our infant feeding classes next fiscal year. In addition, we have been working on a "What to Expect" brochure to share with clients as an educational resource. The brochure is divided by trimester with the plan for Peers to send this to clients as an EDU method. I believe I got this idea from one of the Agency's, so thank you so much for sharing!

SaginawSusan Olguinsolguin@saginawcountymi.govWe set up the parent pit stop at the Saginaw Co Parks, Children's Night Out, with thousands of visitors, community outreach about the coalition and WIC peer support. 1 clerk/tech moved out of the area, so short staffed, besides short 1 RD, so peers have been busy. We are planning to change our BF support group to a parent support group with a BF topic. Hoping to increase participation and looking for a new place to hold the support group or partening up with early head start/head start parent meetings. We have a new RN with NFP who was a WIC BF peer and is now an RN, IBCLC, and part of our coalition, who is planning to have a lactation drop-in weekly, open to all residents! Looking forward to this new BF support option in our community. About to submit a plan to SCHD for BF incentives, like the keychain idea in the presentation!

WashtenawErika Chanderrajchanderraje@washtenaw.orgOur agency’s 2027 NSP goal is to improve 12-month breastfeeding duration among Black and Hispanic families by providing culturally responsive, accessible, and ongoing breastfeeding support. We are exploring the feasibility of having our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors offer home visits to provide timely postpartum support, build trust, and reduce barriers to accessing lactation services. This is one of several strategies we are considering to support our goal; implementation will depend on feasibility, staff capacity, and the development of appropriate protocols.
