Things to consider:
39
Additional Electives - Because 2 levels of a Language other than English (LOTE) is required for UC/CSU University admissions, it is recommended that freshmen take a LOTE as their elective. If you choose to take a LOTE and an additional elective, you will have 7 classes. If you choose not to take a LOTE, please select another elective and alternates. Please note that freshmen will not typically schedule into certain extra electives. Some courses are impacted and are prioritized by grade level with seniors getting 1st priority. If you choose an extra elective, please also choose a 2nd/3rd choice. If a course is full, you will be placed on the waitlist.
40
Math Placement - Math placement is determined by district placement exam, 8th grade teacher recommendation, and grades.

Current 8th Grade Math 9th Grade Math Selection
Math 8 -----------------------> Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 by Design
Algebra 1 -----------------------> Accelerated Geometry
Geometry -----------------------> Algebra 2/Trig

Please note: Students currently taking Math 8 will not take a placement test. Students currently taking Algebra 1 or Geometry in 8th grade will need to take a math placement exam in order to advance to a higher level math as a 9th grader. An Algebra Mindset class will be available to students who need support in Math prior to taking Algebra 1 and will be determined by teacher recommendation. Algebra Mindset earns math credit for graduation but does NOT meet A-G UC/CSU admission requirements. If you are an out of district transfer OR currently a student of the HBCSD, FVSD, OVSD, WSD, Blessed Sacrament, Grace Lutheran, Huntington Christian School, Pegasus, Saint Bonaventure, or Saints Simon & Jude, AND WERE ABSENT on the day of your middle school's testing date, you will need to register for a math placement exam. https://www.hbuhsd.edu/apps/pages/math-placement
41
Health - All students must complete 5 credits (1 semester) of Health to meet Graduation requirements. A one-semester elective will be paired in the opposite semester during their 9th grade year. Summer Health Option: If you want to take an additional elective next year, you may take Health over the summer. Please visit hboilers.com>Guidance>Health Class Options for instructions on how to register for summer options. If you take Health over the summer and are not placed in your desired elective (example: Engineering Design, AVID) you may be placed into another randomly selected elective. If you do not complete Health over summer, Health will be added back to your schedule.
42
PE - All students must complete 20 credits (4 semesters) of Physical Education to meet Graduation requirements. 9th grade students will automatically be enrolled in PE unless they choose one of the other options. Students who want to participate in athletics, cheer, and dance, must try out and will be added based on the roster provided by the coach or program director. If you plan on playing a sport, please check the Athletics tab on our website for details regarding tryouts and summer camps. If you have been accepted to our APA program, the APA department may add a specialized PE class for you.
