Abstract

Person Nr. NameSample size calculations: a game we play

1Michiel de BoerIn this session Michiel de Boer will provide a short, provocative introduction about sample size calculations (also sometimes referred to as power calculations). He claims that the way we conduct sample size calculations currently is not much more than a ritual we have learned to play. Partly based on a recent manuscript by Daniel Lakens (2021) about justification of sample sizes (see suggested reading), he suggests a couple of ways forward, which will be open to further discussion.
