This workbook has two practice sheets, one for each method shown in the tutorial:

1. Flash Fill sheet

Column A has full names. In B2, type the first name for row 2, press Enter, then click back in B2, go to Data > Flash Fill (or press Ctrl+E). Repeat in column C for last names.

2. Text to Columns sheet

Column A has full names, with columns B and C left empty as landing space. Select column A, go to Data > Text to Columns, choose Delimited > Next, check only 'Space' as the delimiter, then click Finish.

Tips

• Both methods work best on simple 'First Last' names. Names with two-part last names may need manual fixes.

• Flash Fill is faster and works from any column position, but its results are static text — it won't update if the source name changes.

• Text to Columns is a good backup when Flash Fill can't find a clear pattern.
