Chamber OrchestraThe HHMS Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned group of students interested in performing challenging music. The HHMS Chamber Orchestra meets once a week on Wednesday mornings before school (7:30AM). Auditions are held within the first two weeks of the school year. Battle of the Books"Love to read? Join Battle of the Books for lively discussions and friendly competitions. Members usually read between 1-3 books of the 10 total books used in this program and then form grade level teams of 4-6 members to ensure all 10 books are accounted for during the competition. Several copies of each book will be available for reading. The top team in each grade level will compete in a District competition against the other Edison Middle Schools. This is a “low pressure” competition. Teams discuss the question before answering, and take turns answering questions. No buzzers. Boost your reading confidence by joining Battle of the Books!

Book ClubIf you love getting lost in a great book and feel that you do not know what to read next, this club is calling your name! There are so many wonderful books out there and so little time in the day, so why not make it a point to get together each week with your friends, classmates, and a great book. Environmental/Courtyard Club"Diversity in school activities is an asset to the student population. An Environmental Club not only promotes an atmosphere of conservation and appreciation of the natural world within a classroom of students, however, the efforts of the club has the intentional focus to influence the entire school.
The Environmental Club is designed for those students who have an appreciation for the natural environment and a genuine concern for our world. Within the classroom students will practice their concern for the environment as they design habitats with ideal growth requirements for a variety of plants and animals. The courtyard is maintained throughout the year as a sanctuary of nature within the brick halls of knowledge. Students will act as real scientists and naturalists as they perform the following:

- Designing and implementing strategies for a GREEN SCHOOL
- Designing and maintaining a courtyard sanctuary
- Beautification and restoration of our own school grounds
- Recycling paper and aluminum products throughout the school
- Designing habitats within the classroom setting
- Understanding ideal growth requirements for plants/ animals
- Documenting behavior/ growth of plants and animals in tested situations
- Aquaponics
- Plant reproduction
- Breeding fish
- And much more…

Design posters, bulletin boards, fliers, hallway decor, research current topics in the environment, design promotional solutions…

Outdoor Hoover Committee
Maintain courtyard, create a nature walk, clean and green the Hoover grounds, new plantings and ideas for courtyard…

Recycling Committee
Develop new ways to promote recycling, collect and organize composting from the building, create “green” solutions, etc…

Classroom Care Committee
Care for plants and animals within a classroom setting, maintain and clean habitats, develop breeding strategies, and more…


The Environmental Club is a great service to the school as well as an outlet for students who have a passion for the natural world.

Weight Lifting Club (Afternoon) Through involvement in this club, student-athletes will learn the basics of human movement, sport-specific exercise, correct form for several key lifts, and how to be knowledgeable, confident, and considerate gym-goers. Please know that while weight training intrinsically carries a certain amount of risk, our program stresses safety and proper form above all else. The heaviest weight that any member will be given permission to lift is 100 lbs. After members have mastered the basics of weightlifting form, our program will progress into more sport-specific exercises designed first by me and later by them. Wrestling Club"This program is meant to give those who are new to the sport an opportunity to see if wrestling is for them and to give scholars familiar with the sport a place to get more practice prior to the season beginning. Our club is separate from the school wrestling team and will not compete against other schools. Through involvement in this club, student-athletes will learn the basics of wrestling technique, build strength and endurance, and become more confident athletes.
Please know that while wrestling, and all martial arts, intrinsically carry a certain amount of risk, our program stresses safety and proper form above all else.
