Things We Want In Future Book ClubThings We *Might* Want in Future Book ClubThings We Don't Want in Future Book ClubWhat are the next countries!?
2
A better ratio of lighthearted & depressing books / only so many depressing books in a rowRotating member picks? (versus voting)To get stuck in one area over dozens of booksBI: I'd love to do North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Venezuela and/or Mali, areas viewed as "hostile/full of terrorists"
3
Books from at least a few countries from the same area at a time so we can get into a grooveMore flexible schedule (we definitely want this) for holidays, etc. picked ahead of time (i.e. know discussion dates & books 1 or 2 books ahead of time)To have one person dictating the book club picks / rules / discussionsCK: I would like to do Mexico and other Central American countries given the current political climate.
4
Books by a person from that country / a first generation immigrant.Choose more than one book at a time, for planning purposes? - I'll add a second! Maybe we plan books quarterly so we know how to pace them? To have no one making decisions / the ultimate MN-nice book club

At *least* as many female authors as male authors. How does everyone feel about some more traditional nonfiction to add in addition to the memoirs and novels? CZ Totally on board with this, I've already been trying to mix some nonfiction into my reading list. CK I would be fine with this too, so long as we stick with the must be by a person from that country requirement (I bring this up only because most of the non-fiction I've seen during this is written by a white person who is considered an 'expert' in the area.)CZ To have Cait have to do all the work organizing (unless she wants to of course); I'd be happy to do my share and perhaps we could rotate
6
LGBTQ authors CZ We might consider keeping book accessibility in mind. I don't mind purchasing the occasional book, but it might be constraining for some people to get books that aren't easily available in the library. CK Good point. Perhaps we should think about implementing a paperback rule, i.e. no books that haven't gone to paperback yet. That would make them more likely to be accessible in the library, and be cheaper if purchasing is necessary. That probably won't work for every country, but it would help for a lot of them!

I'd love to keep focusing on regions outside of the "west" - so latin/south america, asia, africa and the middle east. and maybe australia?? also indigenous authors of all stripes.
9
