Understanding DC:Possible predicates:Notes on predicates:
2
http://wiki.dublincore.org/index.php/User_Guide/Publishing_Metadatadcterms:subjectProperty is intended to be used with non-literal values. see http://wiki.dublincore.org/index.php/User_Guide/Publishing_Metadata
3
https://code.google.com/archive/p/tdwg-rdf/wikis/DublinCore.wiki#1._Use_of_Dublin_Core_terms_in_RDFdc:subjectCan use with literal and non-literal values.
4
dcterms:spatialHas range of the class dcterms:Location. All values used have to be instances of this class. Use only with non-literal values.
5
Notes:dcterms:temporalHas range of the class dcterms:PeriodOfTime. All values used have to be instances of this class. Use only with non-literal values.
6
Decided we want to be able to determine type of subject, including component parts, of complex strings (i.e. topical, geographic, temporal, etc.) so will map individual pieces using minted URI. (Unless there is an exact match for complete string at id.loc.gov. If so, will just use that URI.)

<!-- Personal name with topical subheading -- >

<mods:subject authority="lcsh">
<mods:name type="personal">
<mods:namePart type="family">Perkins</mods:namePart>
<mods:namePart type="given">Justin</mods:namePart>
<mods:namePart type="date">1805-1869</mods:namePart>
</mods:name>
<mods:topic>Correspondence</mods:topic>
</mods:subject>

<!-- Corporate name with topical subheading -->

<mods:subject>
<mods:name type="corporate">

<mods:topic>Faculty</mods:topic>
</mods:subject>
<> dc:subject <customURI>

<customURI> schema:name (?) "Amherst College"
<customURI> dc:subject (?) "Faculty"
<customURI> skos:mappingRelation (?) <http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79109792>

Alternately, if the name "Amherst College" were more complex and were managed in Fedora, we could link to it as with other names:

<customURI> skos:prefLabel "Amherst College--Faculty"
<customURI> dc:subject (?) <fedora:info/names/123456789>
<customURI> dc:subject "Faculty"
<customURI> skos:mappingRelation <http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79109792>
12
<!-- Geographic heading with topical subheading -->

<mods:subject authority="lcsh">
<mods:geographic>Iran</mods:geographic>
<mods:topic>Description and travel</mods:geographic>
</mods:subject>
<> dc:spatial "http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85067888"
No need for custom URI if exact match at id.loc.gov. Our programmers can get what they need from source.

<!-- Topical heading with geographic subheading -->

<mods:subject authority="lcsh">
<mods:topic>College student newspapers and periodicals</mods:topic>

<customURI> dc:subject "Potawatomi Indians"

<customURI> dcterms:temporal "19th century" (alternately, dc:date, which doesn't expect a URI)
