Joining Aptoleague

In the final 2-3 weeks of each season, sign-ups for the following season will be opened on the apterous homepage.

New players are typically assigned to a division befitting their rating, to ensure all members get fun but challenging matches

New entrants can never automatically be placed in the top division

Previous players are always welcomed back. If they have been inactive for a while, I may wait to ensure they remain active before reincluding them

Division Layout

Players are split into ~5 divisions of 8-12 players

Each player plays everyone in their division once - with around 6-7 weeks to play these games

Roughly the top 2 in each division will be promoted, while the bottom two will be relegated

Unplayed games

Unplayed games are typically ignored if neither player has made a significant effort to get the match played

Matches can be awarded to one player if they aptomail their opponent (including me) at least 5 days prior to the stage end

If a player plays less than a third (floor function) of their league games during a stage, all of their completed games will be null and void.

Handicap Cup

Aptoleague also features a cup every season, using handicaps calculated during the season to make matches even

This cup works as a straight knockout, and begins as soon as the league stage ends

The cup runs concurrently with the new season's league fixtures

Champions Trophy

At the end of every calendar year, all division/cup winners are invited to compete in the Champions Trophy

This is a knockout tournament using 9 rounders. The winner is the overall annual champion of AptoLeague
