It is the oldest Baptist church congregation in the United States, founded in 1638 by Roger Williams in Providence, Rhode Island. Today, the First Baptist Church in America continues its rich tradition of “soul liberty.” It holds firmly to Roger Williams’ founding principle of separation of church and state. The First Baptist Church in America is open and welcoming to people who are seeking a richer faith and a deeper understanding of the Christian message.
