| Overview: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Strengths: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Balance | He can create more contact than most cornerbacks because he maintains balance and fluidity throughout the contact.
| Downfield Coverage | Incredibly sticky downfield, mostly stemming from proper contact.
| Stop-Start | He has elite mirroring and the ability to stay with anyone through any route in man coverage.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Weaknesses: | Notes: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Strength | For such a great press-man corner, he lacks functional strength. There are reps of him getting thrown away from the receiver to create small throwing windows.
| High-End Speed | He uses contact to compensate for his lack of elite speed from press coverage.
| False Moves | While he maintains balance and doesn't fall for false moves per se, his hips mimic the receiver very quickly, often causing unnecessarily difficult hip flip angles at the first break.

| Game: | Takeaways: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Georgia (11/04/2023) | Strong line contact without losing balance. Sticky downfield with great contact. Slightly late hip flip. Foot speed in question. Balance and smooth hip flip through line contact is highly impressive. Good lateral acceleration. Great boundary corner despite debatably slightly late hip flip. Navigating zone efficiently. Can play any type of coverage effectively from out wide or in the slot. Elite stop-start ability through double moves. Seemingly fast player. Feisty. Smooth hip flips. May get burned deep by elite speed if his hips get crossed, which they do more often than they should. Can track the play and his man simultaneously. Great acceleration and top end speed, while still maintaining control of his body when at full stride downfield. Elite change of direction. Need to see more off coverage reps, but Rakestraw's tape is a pleasant surprise. | First Round Tape. Must watch more.
| Tennessee (11/11/2023) | Aggressive in coverage, but not the most willing tackler. Quick close from off coverage, although a bit too much cushion. Cover three may not be his strong suit. Elite deceleration. Very sticky in man coverage. Can stay with second breaks. Falls for false route, but has great hip fluidity and recovery. Seems to be intelligent in zone coverage. Can play slot and outside, but much better as an outside corner. | Mid Second. Could go up with more tape.
| Kansas State (09/16/2023) | Slightly late plant step. Elite mirroring in press coverage. Must gain strength for the NFL. Elite stop-start, even in backpedal. Good recovery quickness in short areas. Can play outside or in the slot. Balance is worse this game than it was over the latter half of the season. Good drive on inside tackle. Highly sticky downfield. Fluid hips with great stop-start. May lack long speed. Hips are still highly impressive. Pulls off of block to make a tackle. Seems to be a solid run defender. More comfortable in press than zone coverage. Does not always drift favorably in zone. | Still a mid-second.

| Final Scouting Report:
| Ennis Rakestraw has incredible balance that he uses to stay with receivers downfield through any amount of contact. He is aggressive at the line, can stop and start on a dime, and is appropriately physical throughout the duration of most routes. His stickiness downfield is a rare ability that many teams will covet highly. Regardless of the route, Rakestraw has the lateral acceleration and quickness in man coverage to stay with receivers through multiple route breaks. In off-man and zone coverage, he closes quickly, but lacks anticipation. This allows too many easy receptions underneath, as indicated by his rather high allowed completion percentage. He also has reps where he falls for false moves, requiring him to recover a lot of ground unnecessarily after the initial break. In run defense, he seeks out the tackle despite weighing less than 190lbs. He is a fine tackler, having not missed a single tackle attempt in 2023 until the final game of the season against Florida. His tackling form is not superb, but it is typically enough to ge the job done. Ennis Rakestraw is very sticky and could be considered as early as day one of the draft, but he must improve his anticipation and physically mature a significant amount if he is to become a scheme-versatile lockdown NFL cornerback.
