THE SOLOMON ARCHIVE — Testament of Solomon Demon Chronicle

1. NATURE OF THIS DOCUMENT
6
The Testament of Solomon is an ancient historical document — it is NOT scripture and carries no spiritual authority. It is presented here solely as a scholarly research resource for understanding the world the early church inhabited. All power over darkness belongs to Jesus Christ alone. All true spiritual warfare is conducted through Him — by His name, through prayer, and by the full armor of God described in Ephesians 6:13-18. If you are facing spiritual struggle, turn first and always to Christ and to His Word.

2. SOURCE STRENGTH NOTATION
9
Entries in this archive vary in their level of independent scholarly corroboration. Three levels are noted in the 'Source Strength' column of the Chronicle sheet:
10
LEVEL 1 — MULTIPLE INDEPENDENT SOURCES: The demon appears in the Testament of Solomon AND in at least one other independent ancient text (e.g., the New Testament, Book of Tobit, Talmud, or ancient magical papyri). Examples: Asmodeus, Beelzeboul, Abyzou, Abezethibou.
11
LEVEL 2 — TESTAMENT PRIMARY, REFERENCED ELSEWHERE: The demon appears primarily in the Testament of Solomon but is referenced or discussed in later Jewish, Christian, or scholarly sources. Most major named demons fall here.
12
LEVEL 3 — TESTAMENT OF SOLOMON ONLY: The demon appears exclusively in the Testament of Solomon with no independent corroboration in other ancient texts. The Rhyx series entries (numbers 36-48) fall here. Some of these appear only in certain manuscript families of the Testament — not all versions of the text agree on their inclusion.
13
14
3. MANUSCRIPT TRADITION
15
The Testament of Solomon survives only in Greek manuscripts (apart from single unedited Syriac and Arabic manuscripts). C.C. McCown identified several distinct manuscript families in his critical edition (1922). The major named demons (Ornias through Ephippas) are well attested across manuscript families. The Rhyx series and some later entries appear with more variation between manuscript traditions. Where manuscript families disagree, this archive follows McCown's critical edition as the scholarly standard.

5. WHAT THIS ARCHIVE DOES NOT COVER
26
This archive does NOT include the Ars Goetia or the Lesser Key of Solomon (Lemegeton). The Ars Goetia is a 17th century grimoire later popularized by occultist Aleister Crowley. It has no scholarly connection to the world Paul and the early church inhabited and is therefore outside the scope of The Solomon Archive. The Solomon Archive focuses exclusively on the Testament of Solomon which sits within the early Christian scholarly tradition and has documented linguistic connections to Paul's letters in Ephesians 6:12.
