Antigua and BarbudaAntigua and Barbuda is constricted to a domestic food supply as well as a limited water supply and labor force. BoliviaBolivia is considered the most food insecure country in Latin America. Additionally, 1 in 4 inhabitants are said to be hungry. Some inhibitors in increasing food production are climate change, water availability and soil erosion. 16%79.1

Dominican RepublicThe Dominican Republic has undergone sustained economic growth in the past few decades. The Dominican Republic has met the Millennium Development Goal, and has cut the number of hungry people in half. However, hunger still remains a prevalent issue in the DR, and affects 40% of the people living in poverty. 12%87.1

El SalvadorFood insecurity was well as poverty and development has been occurring in El Salvador in the past years, however the issue of gang violence and criminal activity has stunted the growth of the country agriculturally. 12%94.8

GuatemalaGuatemala is plagued by many factors that inhibits its mission to obtain food security. Some examples in recent years include natural disasters, civil war, and economic inequality. Additionally, Guatemala has high poverty rates which makes it harder for citizens to obtain healthy food. Those factors in addition to the economic hardships Guatemala has been facing in previous years led to the strain they have now. 16%93.3

HaitiHaiti is one of the most undernourished countries in the world, with its citizens living off of $2 USD per day. Natural disasters and weather patterns such as El Nino plague the nation, which makes attaining food much more of a struggle than most Caribbean countries. 53%39.5

HondurasHonduras is one of the poorest Latin American countries, with its citizens living off of less than $1 USD a day. Similar to Haiti, Honduras struggles with climate and environmental changes, such as environmental degradation. These factors specifically impacts those in the southern and western regions. 12%92.6

NicaraguaSimilar to Honduras, Nicaragua is one of the poorest Latin American countries. Agriculture for Nicaragua is a booming industry, comprising 20% of the country's GDP. Food insecurity is closely linked with poverty, climate change, and natural disasters. 17%89.1

Saint LuciaSaint Lucia primarily suffers from a high rate of food insecurity because of many climate related factors, as well as the ever changing environment. 12%86.4

This led to a large issue with the amount of people who could afford food when out of work. This conflict has displaced many, and recovering as a nation is a prime goal that must be met in order to ensure food security. 8.80%92.8

Costa RicaFood insecurity is relatively low in Costa Rica, and with new innovations, Costa Rica is advancing quickly in terms of reaching food security. 5%98.2

EcuadorEcuador has experienced GDP growth, which has helped contribute to increased food security. However Ecuador is very susceptible to natural disasters, which threatens this growth.11%89

Low Rates of Food InsecurityCountries in the category have a strong infrastructure in terms of agriculture and providing food for the citizens. ArgentinaAlthough Argentina is a producer and exporter of food, there is still an evident problem of food insecurity. There is an estimate 5 million people living with food shortages of the 43 million in Argentina. So while there is a problem of food insecurity, Argentina needs to focus on using the sources they have to ensure all citizens have access to food. <5%99.2

BarbadosBarbados imports most of the food its consumes, meaning that great amount of money are spent on obtaining food. Barbados is seeking to find a way to reduce the cost of importing food or by starting to grow crops so food for citizens is cheap and accessible. <5%94.3

BrazilBrazil has one of the strongest economies in Latin America, and produces many crops such as soybeans, rice, wheat, and corn. However, because of unequal income distribution, poverty is widespread in Brazil. 5%98.4

CanadaMany individuals are working to stop the problem of food insecurity. While Canada doesn't have federal programs /coordinated government policies to address this problem, there are many social policies in place. 2.70%99.8

ChileChile is ranked #1 in Latin America on the Global Food Security index, placing it next to the USA. Food affordability is high and poverty rates are low, making Chile a great ally to work with in terms of innovating programs to promote food security. 5%99.2

CubaSimilar to Barbados, Cuba imports much of the food its country consumes. About 70-80% of food is imported in Cuba. Cuba has taken part in many social protection programs that include but are not limited to, school-feeding programs and monthly food baskets. 5%97.3
