Order of events in a Fluxx turn

Fluxx can be a complicated game which offers many opportunities to do different kinds of things on your turn, including things that happen "at the end of your turn", "at the beginning of your turn", or even "before beginning your turn" as well as including conditions of being "during your turn" or "not during your turn." When do these events and phases begin and end? Here's an ordered list of when certain things would happen. Of course, not all of these cards or types of cards are in every deck, so treat each line item on an "if applicable" basis.

To keep things crystal clear, a Turn Token is useful to pass around to indicate exactly whose turn it is at any given point.

Turn Token is passed to player. This person is now "the active player."

if the active player has Forest Fire at this time, now is the time they should discard a Keeper in play, or Forest Fire itself if they have no Keepers in play

if there's a card previously distributed via Dreams & Omens it should be played now

Beginning of window of opportunity for optional Free Actions (New Rules, special Keeper or Creeper abilities)

cards are drawn for No-Hand Bonus

regular Draw phase: draw as many cards as currently indicated by the Draw rule

regular Play phase: play as many cards as currently indicated by the Play rule

• note that some cards played during the Play phase may increase the Draw rule, thus necessitating the drawing of additional cards to meet the official Draw quota after the "regular Draw phase." See this FAQ and this FAQ.

• and, of course there are cards which enable the player to draw additional cards which are NOT counted towards the official Draw quota.

• also note that cards played during the Play phase may decrease the Play rule or suddenly end the turn, causing plays to stop abruptly

• if a "your turn ends immediately" card is played or utilized, 1) do what it says, 2) check win conditions, and then 3) jump to the end-of-turn events. "Turn ends immediately" cards end the Play phase; any remaining Plays are forfeited.

Close of window of opportunity for optional Free Actions. Once you proceed to the end-of-turn events, you may no longer take optional Free Actions.

End-of-turn events: if the active player has the Horrifying Sculpture in play, now is when they must choose a card to discard from their hand (if they have one)

If the player has played Fireball or Healing, and has a spell-caster in play, now is when they put them back in their hand: after completing the Play phase (after Playing All or All But 1) but before discarding for a Hand Limit.

The following are considered to be simultaneous for purposes of meeting Goals (in other words, you check Goals before ANY of these things happen, and then you check them again after ALL of them are done)

the outgoing active player complies with Hand and Keeper Limits

the Cute Fuzzy Alien Creature moves. It is the outgoing active player's choice as to where it goes if interacting with Keeper Limit.

Turn Token is passed to the next person. In the widest sense, this turn is now over. The player who passed the coin away is no longer "the active player."
