I'm familiar with most of the San Gabriel Valley, where I've lived all my life. My family has never really gone on vacation, so I haven't traveled around much anywhere else.
I've given traveling advice to multiple friends here at UCSD who are interested in driving up to LA and trying all the ethnic foods there. There's this great Ethiopian place downtown, and Elite Restaurant is literally THE go-to place for iconic 626 dim sum. I don't really recommend views or landmarks for them to see. It's more of a "You gotta experience the 626 LIFE" kind of approach.

The places I recommend are usually places that I've gone to myself and have enjoyed. If not, then I trust the recommendations from close friends and families who I know live in the area, and I pass those onto my other friends who want this advice.
YesI'd do it for free, but a few bucks don't hurt.
Within California, I've visited Berkeley and Fullerton - and those are all with some ulterior professional motive... I've only been to Berkeley and Fullerton once, both for private debate tournaments. In most cases, my itinerary is already structured by some outside event (like a tournament or an info session).

It has saved me a lot of time and pain when someone else does the organizing for me. When there's a break in plans for something fun, I always rely on someone else (who has already been to the area) to help me explore the best pizza places and eateries...
I use Yelp constantly when it comes to figuring out where to eat. I don't really mind what kind of crappy motel we stay in, but a girl needs her sustenance. That's a big part of the experience that comes with traveling - trying the foods that are available in the local area. I think it's one way you can get a real taste of what life is really like in the place that you're visiting, almost like a small taste of normalcy.

For hotel bookings and trains, I have only ever traveled far enough in those cases for an adult to take care of it for me... I've been to debate tournaments and band trips that have needed hotel stays, so usually someone else has taken care of that for me.
Yes, $10 - $50
My favorite memories all involve being with friends or family while on a trip. I think in some distant future, I would be interested in backpacking but I ideally would always either be traveling with either a group or at least one companion.

Good memories don't just come to you. They're something that you make yourself and with other people, and just because you're physically at a popular tourist spot doesn't guarantee that you'll have a memorable *experience* there.
I don't like the pervasiveness of terror that's tearing down the tourism industry. Even if I wanted to travel, I admit that I would still worry about very trivial details like the risk of foreign terrorism or crime.

I think it's especially exacerbated by the recent events that have been happening in Europe, and I think the fact that violence has been so strongly localized in one particular area makes a big difference in how tourists these days choose their travel destinations.

For example, my mom would skin me alive if I ever went to Mexico, just based on the various horror stories you hear about drug cartel crimes and underaged sex trafficking.

New York, Taiwan, Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon, Florida. We just did a lot of research online by looking at travel blogs, lonely planet, etc. We also asked friends or people who lived in the areas we were going to/people who have gone before. Yes, I've. But that advice is restricted to make them visit or not visit a particular place in a city. Everything is available on the internet these days, from weather conditions to hotels, so one doesn't have much to offer until and unless you're a tour guide.
Imight not be eligible to day with authenticity .
I'd do it for free, but a few bucks don't hurt.
I've visited more than 15 cities ask over India. Usually, we inquired from people who have been there or tried to contact people who are living there. Like, when we went to Andaman, we had inquired about all the sporting activities we could indulge in, the beaches we could see and planned our itinerary accordingly. Few changes are obviously done to it when you actually reach there and get to know about the practicality of your itinerary.
If I take the example of Andaman, deep sea diving and snorkeling were the most interesting ones. Whereas, visiting famous museums did not turn out to be amusing.
There's isn't any specific website. I generally do random and extensive searches for you can't rely on the facts provided by a single website. I try to look for the best deals and plan accordingly.
That would depend on the scale of my excursion. If I'm planning it for few weeks or months, then yes imight as well pay for it. But, then that organisation needs to have agood reputation in that field.
Deep sea diving and snorkeling in Andaman.
Rock climbing in Naintal.
Go karting and amusement park in Bangalore.
Houseboat in Kashmir.
Visiting Nathula in Sikkim and seeing the sun rise in -4℃.

To mention a few.

Public transportation for San Diego, I know the bus system pretty well.YesI'd do it for free, but a few bucks don't hurt.
I drove from New York to San Diego in the following order: New York --> Pennsylvania->Ohio->Indiana-->Illinois-->Missouri-->Oklahoma-->Texas-->New Mexico-->Arizona-->California

We mainly planned the best way to leave the city (NY) and which highways to take on google maps/mapquest (an older person in my family was giving us suggestions and the one using mapquest). Once on the road we refereed to a GPS. On deciding where to visit and where to stay the night we just googled places.
Google maps
Depends on the extent of planning the service provided. Paying 10 for a list of recommendations I could look up on my own, or might decide against to reflect fluctuations in budget or dinner cravings would make me not want to pay.
Staying in a new place every night. Seeing the landscape and architecture of the county. Trying different food, meeting different people.
I wish I had more time to see more places. I spent more time than I would have liked looking for places to sleep and eat. The person I was traveling with sucked, so I don't like traveling with jerks.

Happen to have bomb friends and family to plan them. If I ever travel without them, I'm one of those guys who would really need this travel app to get suggestions.
