|He tries to be friendly towards most people and pokemon. However, people that abuse their pokemon or kill others for amusement tend to quickly feel the wood of his cane against their head. And when they wake up...well, let's just say that with Jormungandr's help, repeat offenders are rare. One way or another.||restore strength||TM 94 (rock smash) used||1|

|Matthew was born on the outskirts of Veridian City, near the forest. When he was eight, he met his first partner under less than ideal circumstances in the town. You see, while on an errand for his parents, he heard the cries of a pokemon behind the 'Mart. Looking back there, he found a group of kids with pokemon torturing a young seviper, their nidorans pinning it as their masters cut at it or beat the poor serpent. Unable to abide the behavior, he rushed to the pokemon's defense, managing to toss the nidorans off (and taking a few needle scratches from them) before the larger kids turned their attention to him, their previous prey nearly dead. They left after breaking a few ribs and his leg. Writhing in pain, he looked over to the terribly still seviper, and found new reserves. He then proceeded to drag the wounded serpent to the nearby Pokemon Center, passing out in front of the Nurse on call. He woke up to find himself in a bed by the seviper, whose one still good eye looked at him with cautious curiosity.||waking herbs|

|He met Girard at the man's last tournament, where he spent his time giving newly hatched pokemon to young children that hadn't received a partner yet. Cheered by the act of kindness and generosity, Girard entered into a long conversation with the man, and found him to be a kind hearted sort. They kept contact on and off, until Girard offered him a spot in the first wave, as his skills could be invaluable.|
Lenard Greene. Martial Artist/dirty fighter/black belt, team nidoking, zweilous, makuhita, fearow, haunter. An unstable sort, this is the kid who started the torture of Jormungandr, and the crippling of Matt. He continued to have a history of this kind of behavior into his adult years, until he got put away by none other than the Captain. Incidentally, this episode made Matt a fan of his show, as he always laughs and laughs when it comes on.
Alistar Ryze was an assassin of strange morality that nearly got killed during a job in Cinnebar. Found by his starter, a lucario named Mars, Matt successfully resuscitated the killer after explanations from Mars on why he should. Thanks to being told that the man never liked killing, but had no idea of what else he could do in life, Matt helped him find other sources of revenue. He has now been mostly reformed, acting as bodyguard to the next group of trainers Girard seeks to send in after getting a better idea. Before that, though, they had a small team.
Aldric (capture specialist/researcher/engineer) was the first person they brought in, as he needed a bodyguard after breaking into Silph Co.’s databases and “hacking” up a porygon that he quickly upgraded to porygon z. He supplied gear for their group, before finally hacking his way onto their employee list and altering the details of the bounty to someone nonexistent. He now enjoys a life with plenty of projects to do.
Emma (ace trainer/sp atk ace/psychic) was the next. She was their eyes and ears, as well as their ranged support. Whimsical and carefree, she joined for an easy way to travel with backup in case she got in over her head. She left once the team hit Unova, deciding she liked it there.
Aniketos (researcher/psychic) was the final portion of the team. Unhappy with the state things were in, he decided that the best way to change the world would be as the Indigo League Champion, and sided with the group as they were useful. He eventually left once he decided he was powerful enough to stay safe in the wilds. His job was tactical assessment and logistics..
