1) Failure to communicate: Staff is expected to be forthcoming with professional Residential Life staff in a timely manner of 24-48 hours. 5) Failure to comply with the Residential Life Contract or Handbook on multiple accounts: Professional staff members must use this expectation when a staff member violates two or more expectations within the same incident and/or contractual violations. This cannot be used in conjuction with other violations. ProbationTermination

6) Failure to report or to confront inappropriate behavior: Staff members are responsible for responding to and reporting any behaviors that break policy at any time. ProbationTermination

7) Failure to uphold laws, policies, and procedures or become involved in a conduct violation: Staff is expected to be role models and will do so by upholding policies and procedures of the University, state and federal levels. Upon their first occurrence of violating this expectation, the staff member's position status will be left to the discretion of their supervisor. The second occurrence will result in termination. Some policies such as, violating the alcohol and drug policy and acts of violence or harrassment may be automatically be considered a second occurrence. Staff members who find themselves involved in a Student Code of Conduct case(s) and deemed "not responsible" are still liable for corrective actions under this expectation. ProbationTermination

8) Breach of Student Confidentiality: Staff members should abide by FERPA, Title IX, and other contractual information (relating to health and conduct). Staff members may not release any protected student or occupancy information (admission of residence, room number, phone numbers, open housing spaces, etc) or misuse Residential Life technologies (Guardian, THD, Engage, etc).Termination

9) Academics: GPA fall below job requirements of 2.5 for a staff member. Action will be at the discretion of the professional staff.

10) Failure to meet availability requirements: Staff should be able to complete all availability requirements. If you are not able to meet a requirement, the supervisor should be informed ahead of time and that requirement should be made up. 14) Failure to complete duty tasks: It is the responsibility of Resident Assistants to complete duty tasks while on-duty. Exepectations include completing rounds and duty logs in a timely manner, signing in and signing out properly, arranging plans for arriving late or leaving early for duty, adhering to staff attire, etc. Action will be dependent on the severity of the situation. 15) Violate Key Return Policy. Residence Hall keys must be returned to the hall's keybox within a timely manner not to surpass one hour (60 minutes) from initial removal. ProbationTermination

16) Unauthorized Non-Residence Life Employment: Staff must have outside, non-Residence Life employment approved with the staff member's supervisor. This policy comes into effect when a staff member's employment is uapproved, and/or impairing their ability to perform contractual obligations. ProbationTermination

17) Failure to be perform on-duty shift: It is the responsibility of Resident Assistants to be on duty each night and to schedule accordingly if conflicts arise. Resident Assistants who need to swap/switch duty nights must do so before the duty shift starts and reflect the change in the schedule per their supervisor's instructions. Resident Assistants are responsible for swapped/switched duty nights with their name associated with them.Termination

EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS

Suoervisors/Professional Staff may assign an Educational Effort in addition to any written warning or probation earned by a staff member. The purpose of an Educational Effort is to assist the staff member in their navigation of learning from mistakes. The Educational Efforts include but are not limited to the following:

§  Skill Development Assistance - assistance with beginning or managing steps taken for skill development.

§  Residence Life Mentoring – a set number of meetings with the staff member’s supervisor beyond contractual one-on-one meetings.

§  Reflection Paper – a paper reflecting on what happened when the violation occurred, the staff members’ thinking process, identifying harm, and suggesting repairs to the harm.

§  Tutoring Assistance/Sessions – assistance with attending or maintaining tutoring sessions or supplements with the Academic Success Center.

§  If a student staff member is placed on probation and is found in violation of a policy, the professional staff may recommend the termination or non-renewal of the staff member’s employment.

§  A student staff member who has not been documented for their not fulfilling expectations or contractual responsibilities may still be terminated at the discretion of the profesional staff or the supervisor.

§  A student staff member who has been terminated from a Resident Assistant or Curricular Assistant position will have a 60 day recruitment probation. The former staff member will not be considered in future recruitment processes until the 60 day probation is complete.

1st/2nd/3rd/4th Action: steps supervisors or professional staff will follow to correct behavior that does not abide by the Student Handbook, contractual elements, expectations and laws/policies.

Probation: subjection of a staff member to a period of examination and evaluation to ascertain fitness for the RA/CA position. Probationary periods will be designated according to the circumstances surrounding any incident or policy violation at the discretion of the supervisors and professional staff. Probationary periods will vary between 60-120 days while the staff member is a registered student and under a Residential Life contract.

Restorative Conversation: a documented, in-person exchange between the staff member and their supervisor regarding the violation(s), their behavior, and moving forward. Failure to attend or schedule a Reflective Conversation within seven (7) days of email notification by their supervisor will result in the next action for the violation in the Accountability Matrix.

Contract Cancelation: the withdrawal of a RA/CA member’s contract.
