Gary2.xp3Anyone know what's really going on here? Is it Copy? Is it Install? Is it dir_scanner not recursing?

Gregwhatever Steven wantsWe've been invalidating these as "works as expected, even if it's not intuitive" but the last time one came up, Steven said it was someone from Google and he wanted to take another look at it. I'll go with whatever he picks.

Gary2.xp3Agree w/ Steven; that might work. Of course Greg's right too, not being able to stop the inheritance atomically is lame.

Steven2.xp3azverkanI like the suggestion about worker thread(s) to handle the heavy lifting here. Seems worth prototyping, at least.

Garyfuturep3gregnoelI think Greg's on the right track. StarMerge could even be deferred and maybe nobody would notice :-).
75
Gregfuturep2So Jason uses SourceCode() to fetch sub-packages, and nobody else. Not much of a clientele for this feature. Deprecate it during 2.x and retire it as of 3.0. Create a new issue (or recycle this one?) to document checkout patterns. Create a new issue to add a StarMerge() feature.

Greghmmm...On the one hand, I think this is a good idea, and something we should do, but if Jean can't, who's going to do it?

(later) I like Steven's suggestion. I've been wondering about a keyword that identifies issues suitable for a GSoC warmup; maybe we generalize it to "getting involved" issues. Suggestions for the keyword are in order.

Stevenanytimep4future draft pickMaybe we should list tasks like this on some prominent web page, a "how to get involved" suggestions page that is a little more specific and encouraging than telling someone to pick a random issue from a database with 450 items...
