Season Three's List of urban outdoor essentials:
2
1. Pants
3
At Season Three, we have many strong opinions, including what essential gear is necessary to live well in a city. We wanted to point out a few different categories to give you a solid base.
Overlooked, as most humans still default to jeans or athleisure these days, but we wanted to highlight two alternatives.
4
5
This list is a collection of products that we love and have used for years, recommendations from people we trust, random items that we have researched, and one beautiful "hiking boot" that we designed and created. Happy to argue about any of them if you DM us on Instagram: @season_ _three.
18 East Single Pleat Trousers - The perfect pandemic pant. Sweatpants are nice but they’re too easy to get stained with some sesame oil while cooking at home or dirty around the cuff if you take them outside. These pants are just as cozy (especially if you size up) and can take a beating or two.
6
7
(Vintage) Carhartt Double Knee Pants - When you really need some indestructible multi-function pants, there is literally no other answer besides the OG double knees. I dare you to try to wear these down; it’ll take you a lifetime. We know, because Jared has tried.
8
9
10
2. Jackets
11
When collecting jackets, it is especially important to purchase quality, as they tend to be pricer items. If you take care of them, they will last decades. We have coats for just about every five degrees of weather, and Adam still wears his fall and winter coats from 18 and 10 years ago.
12
13
Allsaints Leather Bomber - We are big fans of the British brand, especially for their leather goods, which are some of the best that we have come across. Our favorite item is the leather bomber, which is so versatile and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
14
15
Patagonia Torrentshell RainCoat - Adam picked up this beauty in New Zealand while traveling before business school. The temperature was dropping in the Southern Hemisphere after experiencing summer in Southeast Asia only days before. This shell was paired with an Icebreaker base layer to stay dry and warm. Since coming back to NYC, he wears it all the time in fall and spring and it never disappoints.
16
17
18
Arc’teryx Thorium AR Hoody - A quick thing to know about a lot of high-end performance outdoor gear is that it’s designed to be layered and packable. The true gearheads have a different jacket for every five to ten degrees but if you’re looking to keep things simple, go with this jacket, which is designed to be more versatile. It will keep you warm without being too bulky.
19
3. Socks
20
An overlooked, but critical category. There is nothing worse than wet socks, and nothing more to say.
21
Darn Tough Calf length hiker - Darn Tough started as Cabot Mills, a white label factory and almost went out of business. Through their manufacturing expertise, they launched a house brand, which has crushed over the last five years. Using 168 needle machines and merino/nylon/lycra combinations, they currently make the best sock on the market. For wearability, this is a great sock and it comes with a lifetime guarantee, which helps offset the cost. Our one issue with Darn Tough is their brand and styles, it leaves something to be desired.

Side note: this is our plea to Darn Tough, as we would love to consult on brand strategy for you! Seriously, call us.
22
23
24
25
26
5. Headphones
27
We can leave our keys and wallet at home and don’t care, but leaving our headphones at home while traveling from place to place is devastating. Headphones are a necessary and essential item for meandering around the city for calls, exercise, traveling, and not wanting to maybe, possibly, get cancer in 30 years from cell phone radiation.
28
4. Footwear
29
The holy grail of a fit, shoes can pull it all together and make you stand out, or not. Maybe it was just marketing that worked, but as the saying goes “the shoes make the man.”

Beyer Dynamic DT 770 PRO -- Our good friend Ethan Tomas (DJ, Manager, Producer, and Spotify PM) is our go to authority on everything music and audio. He recommends these babies for over the ear use.
30
Hiking Boots
Season Three Ultralight Hiking Boot - What, are you serious? These are the go-to boots for going outside—not just to get the mail, but also going outside for real. Your feet will stay warm, dry, and energized as you blast through whatever stands in the way of you getting shit done. We have worn the same pair to weddings, galleries, dinners, movies, and hikes.
31
Apple airpods -- Some friends put together a music focused WhatsApp group to deal with the pandemic during quarantine. It has grown to 70 humans now and while a lot of suggestions were thrown out, the overwhelming day to day choice was airpods. Jared’s go- to are compact, quality, and easy to use while getting around the city.
32
Combat Boots
Nike SFB Boots - Ok, if you’re really going to go jumping out of planes and shit, you’ll want something more tactical. Jared swears by Nike’s SFB boots and every military man and woman I know does as well.
33
34
Sneakers
New Balance 990v5 - It doesn’t matter how many moodboards this shoe gets put on, it’s pound-for-pound one of the best ever made and your father figure agrees.
35
36
37
38
6. Water Bottle
39
In an eco-friendly and post-pandemic world an absolute necessity.
40
Hydro Flask Water Bottle - The 32 oz big boy size is great for less refilling, but an obvious drawback is that it doesn't fit in every cup holder, or backpack bottle holder, however, we still love Hydroflask. Jared purchased his first a few years ago and Adam copied him immediately out of jealousy next to his measly 16 oz version.
41
42
Hydro Flask Coffee mug - We don’t understand how this works, but this mug keeps coffee or tea hotter than you could ever expect an hour later. Super useful for the environmentally conscious out there.
43
44
45
7. Backpacks
46
Another staple category. We have so many bags that we could recommend, like coats, a different bag for every environment. We will define urban outdoor essentials as narrow as possible for this category.
47
And Wander 40L Backpack - With bags, everyone knows the name of the game is pockets. This baby has two drink pockets on the outside and four additional outside pockets to go along with a large main compartment. When you have six meetings around the city and finish the day by going to dinner with friends, this is the bag for you. Large enough to hold just about everything you need, but not so large that you look out of place. Also, it’s waterproof.
48
49
50
51
9. Survivalist Gear
52
Go Pack - We have not gotten around to buying this beauty ourselves, mainly because this bag is expensive. However, it’s a work of art, and I am desperate to grab one for when the zombie apocalypse begins, which based on the US’s need for a Space Force probably isn’t that far off.
53
54
Big Berkey Water Filter -- We hate to use plastic in the Season Three Universe, partly for the environment and partly because drinks taste awful in plastic containers. This stainless steel and ceramic candle filter is easy to use and can filter raw sewage and make drinkable water. Adding this beast to NYC’s already best-in-class tap water removes the “hardness” (i.e. minerals and bacteria) to get you a crisp clean drink. We aim to consume one gallon of water every day, as it is still the reigning champ for great skin.
55
56
57
Hand crank radio -- When Indian Point Nuclear Plant, built near the Ramapo Fault line 30 miles outside of NYC, melts down.
58
8. Tools
59
Toolkit -- One can fix many things themselves these days with a basic toolkit and a few youtube tutorials. As Ron Swanson exclaimed “No home is complete without a proper toolbox. Here’s April and Andy’s: A hammer, half of a pretzel, baseball card, some cartridge that says ’Sonic and Hedgehog’, a scissor half, and a flashlight. Filled with jelly beans.” You can get most of the necessary tools in a set (Craftsman is a great brand) and googling the remaining items is simple.
60
61
Tools for living in an apartment --

1. Hammer - just fun to bash things.
2. Needle Nose Pliers and Channellock Pliers - always come in handy.
3. Screwdrivers- Flat and Phillips -- No skimping.
4. Allen Wrench Set - For all your Ikea needs.
5. Super glue and Gorilla glue - Need I say more.
6. Duck Tape -- I know it’s Duct Tape, but it’ll always be Duck Tape. Literally a cure all for all problems including rope, bandage, sealant, and packaging.
7. Tape Measure - We will measure anything, anytime, anywhere.
8. Box cutter - For the thousands of Amazon packages weekly and Gustavo Fring’s favorite accessory.

Final thoughts from Mr. Swanson, “I don't wanna paint with a broad brush here but every single contractor in the world is a miserable incompetent thief.” Try it yourself first.
