6"X18" thick white paper, 2 per student
Tracers of petal , stem, circle, and leaf shapes
paint in a rainbow of colors
water

paint brushes
scissors

Procedures:
1. Read The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. Ask the students to notice the illustrations as the story is read.
2. Demonstrate how to trace five petals, two leaves, a stem, and a circle on one of the pieces of paper.
3. Work time
4. Discuss the color wheel and how to use it to determine color choices. Demonstrate how to blend two analogous colors in each shape to give the shapes more variety. Petals should be orange and red, the circle is yellow and orange, and the stems are green and yellow.

6. Discuss cool colors and demonstrate how to neatly splatter paint the background with cool colors.
7. Work time.
8. Cut out shapes, arrange them on the splatter paint background, and glue them down into the flower.
