Campus Challenges: Describe some of the existing challenges to faculty adoption of low/no cost course materials on your campus that your proposed textbook affordability program will address.
29
Math and Science ancillaries and online HW have been idnetified as a huge stumbling block for faculty wishing to eradicate or lower costs for students. They are crucial for student sucess so this has been a challenge that has presented inself for faculty. This grant would allow for release time for faculty wishing to work with the OER coordinator to curate and embedd OER ancillaries and online HW into their classes, thus making their classes much less expensive and in some casses zero cost. Additonally, faculty hve reported a desire to make this shift but lack the time to do so, so by offering relase time they can devote the time needed to do the reseach and create a class that they feel good about while saving students money.
