Summary: The following data tables contain all measured data and model results used to make all interpretations and generate all figures in the Main Text. Each sheet contains a different sample type.

Pre-1950 wood: Measured methoxyl isotopic compositions, cellulose isotopic compositions, sample metadata and silvicultural charactertistics, climate data, and photosynthesis model predictions, for all bulk wood samples grown before 1950. Each row is the average for all whole-wood or latewood measurements for each sample.

Bald cypress core: Measured methoxyl isotopic compositions, ring ages, climate data, and photosynthesis model predictions, for all measurements of tree ring intervals from a single bald cypress core. Each sample measured once.

Ginkgo growth experiments: Measured methoxyl isotopic compositions, celluose isotopic compositions, growth chamber characteristics, climate data, and photosynthesis model predictions, for all measurements of basal root shoots grown in outside open-topped chambers under elevated atmospheric CO2. Each sample measured once.
