If there are many people playing and the game hasn't reset for a long time, I tend to be discouraged from playing ("how can I compete this late in the process?"). But having other players is important - if nobody plays a game I don't want to play either (being a lone survivor on the whole game world), especially if it depends on multiplayer features
Not really, the main thing is whether it's still active. For example the Lords game - ooold, but it has its charm. The age doesn't take away from it at all.

Community tutorials. Tips sharing. Exploration of new mechanics for the betterment of the industry as a whole.
I would like to see more perspective blogposts from developers. Even if it was a once sentence explanation of something new a number of developers had learned that week. Even demystifying common topics likely to occur in PBBG development. It would grow the community in my opinion
More developer tutorials, talks, education. We should be collating our experiences and lessons to push each other to new heights.

Depends on the game. If there's room for 15 neighbors and 15 people are playing, it's good. In an open world like Marosia for example, the game would need 1,000s of characters to feel populated enough.

If there are only a small handful of players, the in-game economy is bound to be weak.
If a game is old, I assume that new content will be only geared to end-game players, and I'm left playing catch-up forever.

as long as the content scaling matches the playerbase (1k player game size 50 groups etc)
as long as there is a clear way for me to progress as a new player, catchup mechanics, and content tailored towards early game players that can reasonably build you up, not really. if not, what sthe point in starting a new game is all your content gives you no rewards, the investments cost way too much vs what you make etc

A list of the most active games. Perhaps a area that lists game that are new within the past month. Perhaps a list of games with the most votes, or mentions on Reddit. What games are people playing?...what games are people making?....what games should I avoid? Another thing could be to find out what do players want? Like what genre? What game mechanics? What style of game play. With this information, developers can make game people want instead of another cut & paste mafia game.

a game with full 3d graphics is a very different experience to pure text. I can definitely appreciate both and anything in between. It's more about if the designers have a unique idea and passion for writing the game in their chosen medium.

I'm not really sure right now as I'm on the edge of your community and only heard about this survey through someone else. I'd be willing to join the community if I heard about things that you do which sound interesting like discussions about games or maybe a scheduled community online event of some sort idk.
The only game on your site with many reviews is Marosia and I just hate that reviews page. Everyone hates it. Everyone has a love/hate relationship with that game. The people who are in the Marosia clique cry every time there is a bad review, and the people who didn't get into the clique and got burnt out and left get bitter when there's a good review. The whole thing is toxic. I don't have much knowledge of actually active PBBG games outside of Marosia
Honestly I'm not aware of much active community. I have been playing pbbg's for nearly 10 years but I don't care about you and you don't really offer me anything. No offence. Give me an easily digestible monthly or quarterly update on what's going on in the genre? Connect with the developers in the genre so you can have a real overview of what's going on and where the genre is going, because individual players can't see that. Make it easily visible and pretty for people to see on social media or website? Lead active discussions or make videos about more popular RPG games when they become popular or have big updates, like Runescape, Valheim, even stuff like Minecraft, Stardew Valley and The Witcher idk. If you want the community to grow or be better you have to bring people together somehow and do something that all people who are passionate about pbbg games would find interesting. A lot of people in the world like PBBG games so there is loads of potential if you want to or if you do it right. But some of your questions on this sheet sound kind of presumptious or condescending, as if you are actually a significant entity, because I don't really know anyone who values you right now. I'm sorry if this comes across as offensive because I'm not aware of what you're actually doing, but all that means is that people who play ppbg's aren't aware of/interested in what you're doing and that could be improved.

Text and 2D/3D graphicsPBBG Discord, r/PBBG subreddit
Weekly events such as chats, demos, or even livestreams. Anything to get people around and feeling more like a community with resources rather than getting your resources and leaving.
I think maybe the way this form is written is heavily based on what some may view as the typical PBBG that focuses on battle, building, and questing. There are plenty of games not like that and it seems they are left out as options (besides typing in a bunch of info in the "other" option). I think finding a wider array of staff that can bring more view points and input is a must. As I see it now, PBBG is mostly male dominated and seems to strictly focus on a few specific subsets of games.
As some one who would consider themselves as a "developer" side of the PBBG community a lot of what I do is not what tends to be talked about or focused on and it honestly should. Marketing, branding, social media presence, planning etc. seem to be weak points in the community that would greatly benefit any person looking to market a game. It's really the "end goal" of game creation that after you've made a game, how to get the word out there and keep a consistent brand, expand, and profit. To quote directly from the "About" section from pbbg.com " Although there are several strong examples of great games in our space, the vast majority suffer from a lack of development resources and guidance, and have aged poorly." I would like to point out that one aspect of "lack of development resources" would be marketing and brand identity. Having a space to talk about more of the marketing aspect of games is lacking in the community, namely what I use which is Discord, and I think that it should be moved to toward the top of the list of community changes.

On top of just resources for the community I also believe that PBBG as a brand has quite a bit of marketing it could benefit from as well. I believe we would all be well served to bring in more developers, creators, and players but right now, it is all word of mouth. I think it would be a great community builder to begin to reach out to specific game owners and ask them to join the community or even participate in some way be it blog post or social media post. A "I'll scratch your back you scratch mine" type of deal.

I'd love to be able to magic up more reviews for the games listed on the site. I realise that these are time consuming to create, and require a lot of effort, especially as you'd need to give each game a lengthy play to be able to accurately review it. There's no easy fix unfortunately, and I'm not really in much of a position to be able to help either.

Kind of but not a complete turnoff. One reason is it may be hard to catch up to top players if I started very late. But all of that depends on the game, whether it’s really fun, how big the player base is, etc

Too low, nobody to play with. Too high, feels as though you can't leave a mark or everyone's outpaced you.
Usually very dated UI turns me off. I prefer nice text over very garish buttons / designs. Plus, there's the same issue as the too many people thing above--when a game is very established, there tends to be a very big gap you need to catch up to.

3D is usually a hard turn-off (can't run it), but graphics are fine. I usually don't like the style a lot of the time, though, so in that case well-written text is a good and cheaper option.

Depends on both what I am playing, and how much available I am to check on them. Basically up to 5 hours, usually a few minutes per checkup.
Depends on how much progress I made in the game. If it's in an endgame state or up to 30 minutes in, I'm fine with it.

Slightly. I only play games based on their reviews/ratings.
Dead or not, no change.

Although I mostly care about the numbers, a few 3d models won't be so bad.

Yes. If the game doesn't have many players, it probably isn't very good.
I tend to gravitate toward newer games as they are more likely to incorporate the lessons learned over the years the genre has existed.

do not. I believe in the potential of all games, regardless of how many players there are, only the game content matters
Yes. Both because they are almost or already ready, that is, without further updates, or contents dated to the current time.

Currently none, because I'm a creator, but typically played some of my local PBBG's. I'm from Lithuania and it has few 100-400 online players PBBG's, that are advertised by some old, but still popular browser game websites and then few independent creator games, that have like 3(not typo, three) to 40 online players/day.

Clans, All of the above, but if only one, then Clans/Factions/Teams.
Bigger community means better game economy if it has one.
Mostly yes, because if game has system that ascends its numbers up (like every single game), example - after a level, next exp = current_next_exp*1.15, it becomes huge in a year of play and ratings will mostly be just "who has more time". And I care if I can catch up at least somehow, if I'll do my best. That's why I'm thinking about making games around limitations. Like runescape skill system, when you're more based on getting items, than getting those numbers up.

It's a random idea, but maybe we should make some html/css templates, pin some php/js/etc. learning resources, for those new developers who want to join and keep this genre of games alive. Also, open source game would be cool. That's how I started, I could have never learned programming if there wasn't a random php game "script" download button on the internet.
