Synergistic Effect of Silver Nanoparticles Combined with Different Antibiotics against Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (published paper)
Acinetobacter baummannii is aerobic, Gram negative and multidrug resistant bacterium (MDR) which is the main cause of the hospital acquired infection. Using nanoparticle as antimicrobial agents is a promising method to overcome the threat of MDR bacteria, this is not only because the natural effective properties of these particles against the bacterial cells, but it is also unlikely that microorganisms gain resistant against nanoparticles. In this study, silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) and synergistic effect of Ag-NPs with different antibiotics were tested against A. baummannii strain H72721 in Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB). Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of each of the ampicillin, kanamycin, gentamycin and clindamycin on the bacterium was 11 mg/ml, 2 mg/ml, 0.5 mg/ml, and 0.3 mg/ml respectively. In addition, MIC of the Ag-NPs alone towards the bacterial strain was found as (0.75 mg ml-1). Interestingly, the inhibitory property of each of the tested antibiotics were greatly improved when they were used in combination with Ag-NPs compare to when they were used alone, and in case of each of the ampicillin and clindamycin the bacterial growth reduced 3 folds. Results from this study are strongly suggesting that Ag-NPs could be provide a successful approach to overcome the problem of MDR bacteria and could use as a superficial treatment for A. baummannii’s infections.

A Systematic and Meta-analysis Survey of Whale Optimization Algorithm
Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is a nature-inspired meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, which was proposed by Mirjalili and Lewis in 2016. This algorithm has shown its ability to solve many problems. Comprehensive surveys have been conducted about some other nature-inspired algorithms, such as ABC, PSO, etc. Nonetheless, no survey search work has been conducted on WOA. Therefore, in this paper, a systematic and meta-analysis survey of WOA is conducted to help researchers to use it in different areas or hybridize it with other common algorithms. Thus, WOA is presented in depth in terms of algorithmic backgrounds, its characteristics, limitations, modifications, hybridizations, and applications. Next, WOA performances are presented to solve different problems. Then, the statistical results of WOA modifications and hybridizations are established and compared with the most common optimization algorithms and WOA.

Uttered Kurdish digit recognition
Speech recognition is a vital in human- computer interaction area. In this paper, three spectral based features including MFCC, LPC and formant frequencies are proposed to classify ten Kurdish uttered digits (0-9). The features are extracted globally, and feed a pairwise SVM classifier. Experiments including each individual feature and different forms of fusion are conducted and the results are shown. The fusion of the features, significantly improves the result and shows that the different features carries complementary information.

Speaker identification based on the CNN
Abstract:
Speech recognition is a vital in human- computer interaction area. In this paper, two different models are implemented for speaker identification which are 1 D convolutional neural network (CNN) and feature based model. In the experimental, the three spectral based features including Mel frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC), Linear Prediction Code (LPC) and Local Binary pattern (LBP) are fed to Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K Nearest Neighbor (kNN). results are shown the MFCC is the best feature among the others. MFCC is then extracted for framed signal and used to both proposed models. The result shows that there is not significant different between the accuracy of the CNN and kNN. While SVM is less sensitive compared with others.
