|PURPOSE: To introduce the rider and/or horse to the sport of dressage. To show understanding of riding the horse forward with a steady tempo into an elastic contact with independent, steady hands and a correctly balanced seat. To show proper geometry of figures in the arena with correct bend (corners and circles).||JUDGE||Ida Norris|
|USDF INTRODUCTORY LEVEL – TEST C|
|Enter working trot rising.|
Halt through medium walk. Salute - Proceed working trot rising.
|Straightness on centerline and in transitions; clear trot rhythm.||6||6||severe wobble after halt. be sure salute is arm clearly out and ( elegant.. smile if you can .. coaching hint:):).. and look at the judge or camera.. remember acknowledge a PERSON) on move off focus on c to keep straight . be sure legs are evenly placed at moveoff for straightness|
|2||C||Track right, working trot rising.||Balance and bend in turn.||7||7||LOOK around the corner with your head as you make turns the horse follows where your head swings|
|3||B||Circle right 20 meters.||Roundness and size of circle; clear trot rhythm and bend.||6.5||6.5||horse could be rounder and steadier in connection but geometry steady|
|Circle right 20 meters developing working canter in first quarter of the circle, right lead.|
Working trot rising.
|Roundness and size of circle; clear canter rhythm and bend.||6.5||6.5||not clearly in front of the leg.. rider nede to prepare more.. horse appeared to be taken unawares with the leg aid.. first steps were inactive work to balance horse and get onto outside aids to improve bend and balance .. no leaning in :):)|
|5||(Transition in & out of canter).||Balance and smoothness.||6||6||not in front of the leg at depart and fell out of canter in front of rider before as .. this means you probably are not really pushing the canter.. are you coasting..?? just letting the horse canter... ? you need to keep your legs on ( ie use the accelerator :):))|
|6||K-X-M||Change rein, working trot rising.||Trot rhythm and straightness on diagonal; bend through corners.||6.5||6.5||horse unsteady at turn at k ( turn lacks smoothness/ rider shifted weight quickly from one sodie to the other... ) need steadier connection in this whole movement|
|7||E||Circle left 20 meters.||Roundness and size of circle; clear trot rhythm and bend.||6||6||unsteady to bridle but geometry ok horse needs to be a bit more clearly in front of the leg to steady the connection|
|Circle left 20 meters developing working canter in first quarter of the circle, left lead.|
Working trot rising
|Roundness and size of circle; clear canter rhythm and bend.||6||6||circle shape ok and energy steady but horse not truly in connection at times above the bit/ reins quite loose|
|9||(Transition in & out of canter).||Balance and smoothness.||6||6||rider was not really sitting at depart.. you need your seat and your leg and a firm request for an active canter|
|10||Between F & B||Medium walk.||Willing and balanced transition; clear walk rhythm.||6.5||6.5||above the bit in the trans but walk has march|
|Complete freedom to stretch neck forward and downward; clear walk rhythm, straightness on the diagonal; |
Willing and balanced transition; clear walk rhythm.ground cover.
|6||6||snatching the reins from the rider.. when schooling you will need to push horse out to contact request stretching and not allow snatching.... he needs consistent stretch ( at your request) :)horse shows and active walk but needs so overtrack|
|12||Between C & M||Working trot rising to A.||Willing and balanced transition; clear trot rhythm.||6.5||6.5||not in connection reains loose|
Halt through medium walk. Salute.
|Straightness on centerline; willingness, balanced transition and halt.||6.5||6.5||some steps to side . work to show longer immobility / look at judge or camera directly to acknowledge :) your salutes are not just perfunctory they show that the horse will stand while your hand is off the rein and your arm out and will stand immobile for 3 seconds. It is a necessary and rewardable skill.|
Leave arena in free walk. Exit at A.
|1||Gaits||Freedom and regularity||7||7|
|2||Impulsion||Desire to move forward with suppleness of the back and steady tempo.||6||6||not clearly in front of the leg today in this test. Increasingly as the tests become more difficult you need to be able to push the horse OUT to the connection. the forwardness to the connection allow the rider to have the opportunity to half halt ( Ie shift... to rear rage a horse's speed, balance, bend)|
|3||Submission||Acceptance of steady contact, attention, and confidence.||6||2||12||unsteady to the bridle through most of this test, and the reins were often loose so there was a loss of connection|
|4||Rider’s Position and Seat||Keeping in balance with the horse||6.5||6.5||starting to be tired??? heels were up a bit in this test and I felt like your core wasn't stable -- not as effective keeping the horse in front of you.. sometimes this happens as were learn to canter as we feel less secure .... (?) work on confidently going forward and getting in connection with this talented horse|
|5||Rider’s Correct and Effective Use of the Aids||Correct bend and preparation of transitions||6||6||lacked some harmony today and was more unsteady.. that makes it difficult to be occur, steady etc|
|6||Geometry and Accuracy||Correct size and shape of circles and turns||6||6||see above|
|thank you for your lovely turnout. this team is an eye catcher with good ring presence! s you progress to harder tests being in connection becomes more and more important. Keep forward, get your weight down onto the ball of your foot in the stirrups and sit down prior to transitions.. be prepared. plan every move in a test.. think about every moment and think about every aid in order as your review your test in your mind. remember to keep your eyes looking ahead to where you will actually be going.. this keeps your upper body aligned with your horses turns and your head is a blinker ( early turn signal) for the horse. pretend you are driving a golf cart in the ring.. look ahead to where you would be driving the cart.. and look ahead for traffic. Your head and eyes should scan aroun where you are going.. you are a lovely team.. keep going! Nice horse!|
