Course DescriptionIntermediate introduction to modern spoken Japanese through aural-oral drills and exercises, and
mastery of the basic grammatical structures. Emphasis on the spoken language, although there
will also be exposure to enough of the Japanese writing systems to meet practical needs. Practical
use and observing of the language will be emphasized. This course comprises of at least 2,800 minutes
(46 hours and 40 minutes) of course contact time and at least 5,600 minutes (93 hours and 20 minutes)
of independent study, for a total student workload of at least 8,400 minutes (140 hours).

Course ObjectivesBy the end of the session, students should be able:
1. To successfully perform intermediate level communicative acts in limited daily situations.
2. To speak utilizing the proper social registers, with a good understanding of Japanese
cultural norms.
3. To further understand Japanese written forms.
