A Reformed Library That Suits Your BudgetPrices of Books Accurate as of 11/10/2018

"Paul the aged, in sending for his books and parchments, exemplified the comprehensive extent of his own rule. Indeed who can doubt, that the Church is built up by the Ministry of the pen as well as of the mouth; and that in both ways 'the manifestation of the Spirit is given to ever man to profit withal?' We cannot suppose that God would suffer the labours of his servants, in communicating the results of exercised, deep, and devotional study, to be in vain. The experience of the men of God, like that of diligent travellers, is a public benefit; and the fruit of it in successive ages is preserved as a most valuable store of important knowledge to the Church" - Charles Bridges, The Christian Ministry

Explanation of Book PackagesBuying New & Used Books
9
10
Entry Level The entry level books were selected for Christians who want to take their Bible studies to the next level and develop a well rounded faith. These packages are designed to equip the Christian who isn't so sure about theology to be able to answer tough questions and bolster their faith. NewThe plus side to buying new books is that they're yours. No highlights, mildew, captured sneezes from the last owner, etc. You have the honor of stamping "From the Library of" for the first time. Keep in mind that much of the pricing for new books is changing due to discounts, so the prices reflected in this sheet only reflect the prices of the books at the time the spreadsheet was created.

Mid-LevelThe mid-level books were selected for Christians were are discerning whether or not they want to go into ministry, and to all Christians who want to lead a small group or Bible study. These books will challenge, encourage, and bolster all areas of the
Christian's life and Theology. A thorough study of these books will equip most Christians for the long run.
UsedYou can obtain any of these library packages for a much cheaper price used. This takes patience and knowing how to spot a book that's about to fall apart. Remember to email the seller if you're unsure of the quality and ask them to check for highlights and other wear and tear if you're spending the big money. Refer to the "Publishing Houses" tab to know which publishing houses you can trust on site. Half Priced Books is your friend.

TheologianThe Theologian level books were selected to introduce Christians to a seminary level reading curriculum without the hassle of going to seminary. Upon collecting these works, it can easily be said the Christian has a formidible library. Provided in these lists are enough reading material for a lifetime (Unless you read as fast as Spurgeon, of course). What About Logos Bible Software?

I have it. It's awesome. I love it. I also have a library that I would be remiss without. There is nothing like smell of a genuine book. A book can't send you a direct message, either. This spreadsheet is for those who want a physical library. If you must get Logos though, I recommend the Reformed Platinum Package for starters.

What is a "Smyth Sewn" Binding? How to Make a Copy or DownloadAgros Reformed Baptist Church Blog
20
21
A Smyth Sewn binding is a binding technique that involves sewing sets of pages folded into pamphlets(called "Signatures") together and then glueing them to a cap, and then attaching the pages along with the cap to the book. This method increases the longevity of a book to hundreds of years if taken care of properly. It also allows books to lay flat without damaging the binding. This is extremely helpful if you plan on hunkering down for a long reading or study session. Books that have glued bindings lose pages easily and often times will never lay flat, which is quite cumbersome if you plan on actually reading these books. Additionally, if you plan on handing down your library to your children, always buy Smyth Sewn. Almost every single hard back contained within these lists are Smyth sewn. You can find cheaper editions of many of the books in this spreadsheet, but the pages will fall out if used heavily, and you will be sad. Copy

A Note on the Distinction Between Baptist and PresbyterianMethodology for Selecting Works
28
This library attempts to equip the Christian with the tools they need to be encouraged in their faith. As a result, the decision was made to distinguish Baptist and Presbyterian packages in order to help the Christian discern which important works align with their views on covenant theology. You'll notice that as the packages increase, the distinction between the two is removed. At that point it is important to understand many different views on the covenant(s). A helpful component of this tool is that the Christian can elect to purchase or not purchase books that they are disinterested in. This will free up the Christian to purchase books from higher packages if they choose to do so. To the Baptists who are new to purchasing Theological works, you'll notice that the selection of Baptist books is much more wanting than Presbyterian. This is not because there was any bias in the creation of this spreadsheet, but rather because the majority of important Reformed works are indeed Presbyterian and Dutch Reformed. The books selected for this spreadsheet are almost entirely works that the creator of this tool has in their personal library, or has access to through Logos and their church library. Books that the creator of this spreadsheet has not interacted directly with come highly recommended in the Reformed community and have been for quite some time. Careful consideration was also taken into using the highest quality binding and publishers, with special care to support Reformed publishing houses over Amazon to give money to the church. This is why publishing houses such as Banner of Truth Trust, Reformation Heritage Books, and P&R publishing are so highly prioritized in this compliation. The user of this spreadsheet can elect to purchase "on demand" copies from Amazon to reduce the cost of building a library or purchase through kindle or other electronic sources if budget is a limitation.
