Making Local Woods Work commissioned Shared Assets to review the guidance that exists that might support Woodland Social Enteprises (WSEs) in acquiring or accessing land.

This spreadsheet summarises the key resources that we have found, relating to:
Mechanisms for acquisition:
- Purchase of land on the open market
- Community Rights
- Community asset transfer - acquisition of local authority and public land at less than market value
Forms of tenure
- Leases, licences and management agreements
- Woodlots & Crofting
Transitions
- Moving from one form of tenure to another
- Renegotiating leases

This work focusses on the processes and mechanisms for acquiring and accessing land. Some of the guidance summarised is fairly general, but still useful to WSEs. Some of the columns have been left deliberately blank, as not all the guidance covers all the areas.

You can filter the spreadsheet by country, whether the source of information is guidance or information, and whether it is woodland specific, in columns B, C, and D. All of the weblinks included were accessible and correct in July and August 2017

If you have any questions about our work or this project, please email hello@sharedassets.org.uk. Thanks!
