TIPS FOR USE
2
3
1. This is a tool designed to help schedule start times to ensure you have available lanes in the range, while limiting downtime on the range to compress the day as much as possible. The data collected covers the past four years, with outlier data removed, and venue-specific data included for your considerations.

2. Click on the sheet for your venue, then find the competition format that you are planning. If you are trying a format that your venue hasn't done before, use the 'master times' sheet.
6
7
3. There are many considerations an OC can use in scheduling its day and order its categories (ex. experience of your ramp supervisor, available daylight, weather forecast, course layout considerations etc.). This document won't spend too much time on these topics as they are venue specific, depend on the preferences of your OC, and are best discussed with your TD.

4. In this example we will schedule a Pursuit in Camrose, the starting order of categories has been determined to be: Ecoaims U11, Ecoaims U13, Ecoaims Open, Men, Women, Junior Women, Youth Men, Youth Women, Senior Boys, Adult 3 Men, Senior Girls, Adult 2 Men, Dev 1 Girls, Dev 1 Boys, Dev 2 Girls, Dev 2 Boys. Our first start time will be 10:00.
10
11
5. We will assume that the venue has enough ecoaims units for one competition category. Our U11 Ecoaims start at 10:00, they will ski four laps and shoot 3 times.
12
13
6. We expect the 85% of the U11 athletes to be finished the race by 10:18:52.3. By subtracting the 85% lap time (5:27.6) from this number, we can expect that 85% of the athletes will be out of the range and done their penalty loops at 10:13:25
14
15
7. We will need to change the target size between the U11 & U13 categories, if you have an experienced Chief of Ecoaims this can be done in under two minutes. This means that we can have the fastest U13 Ecoaims athletes enter the range for the first time at 10:15:25 and still have enough available lanes. To be safe, in this example we will give ourselves leeway until 10:16:00
16
17
8. If we want the fastest U13 athlete to enter the range for the first time at 10:16:00 and their fastest lap is 3:25 then we can start the race at 10:12:35 and be confident that there will be no overlap. We will round this up and say that the first U13 athlete will start at 10:11:00.
18
19
9. Let's jump ahead to the scheduling of the Senior Boys and Adult 3 Men, and assume that the Senior Boys start at 11:22:00.
20
21
10. The Senior Boys are our biggest category of the day, and we want to be sure that the entire range is empty before the Adult 3 Men start. Perhaps we are also concerned about rifles being unclaimed on the racks after the last lap and so we want to have a suitable buffer before the Senior Girls start.
22
23
11. We expect the last Senior Boy to be finished the competition at 12:09:52, since their slowest lap is 12:40 we can assume that the last Senior Boy will exit the penalty loop at 11:57:12.
24
25
12. This means that the fastest Adult 3 Men can enter the range at 11:57:12. Since their fastest lap is 7:12 that means they can start at 11:50.
26
27
13. In this example, we aren't worried about adding buffer time between the Senior Boys and Adult 3 Men. The thinking is that we are comparing the slowest time (not the point where 85% of athletes are finished, and so we have enough lanes that if we happen to see a new fastest Adult 3 Men split time, or a new slowest Senior Boy split time, we will still have a quiet range for the two of them. A Reminder, we are always looking at when the slowest athlete leaves the range and when the fastest athlete enters the range; always remember to subtract their final lap time from their total race time so that we are looking at when the athlete leaves the range for the final time NOT when they finish.
28
29
14. Some other considerations to keep in mind at your venue: do you have enough lanes, and volunteers to have .22 calibre competitions and ecoaims competitions occuring simultanesouly? Do you have enough ecoaims to run U13 and Open categories simultanesouly? Will you need additional time to change the shooting level on the ecoaims rifles between U11 and U13 athletes?
30
31
15. From these two examples you can see this is just a tool to help you plan out your day. Between the TD, Chief of Competition, Chief of Range, Chief of Timing, and good ole fashioned experience we can create a daily schedule that compresses the day as much as possible, that maximises your use of the range while still allowing for fair, safe, and fun competitions! So play around with 85% times, slowest times, fastest times to come up with a schedule that suits your venue/volunteers/and courses.
