This course aims to equip students with essential learning skills needed to study English effectively. Topics covered in the course include a variety of effective study methods. By learning and applying these skills, students will cultivate an autonomous approach to their English studies, ultimately leading to improved overall language proficiency.

2基礎英文法ABasic English Grammar A英文法トレーニング１ENGLISH GRAMMAR TRAINING 1区分Ⅱ基礎英語Fundamental EnglishII 1001この授業では英語学習の基礎である文法事項を学ぶことが目標である。主に基本文型の理解、動詞、助動詞、名詞、代名詞、形容詞、副詞、接続詞、前置詞、不定詞、動名詞、分詞、関係詞、冠詞の正しい使い方などを練習する。また、この講座では主に一致（agreement）、時制（tense）、相（aspect）、モダリティ（modality）といった重要な文法概念も扱う。単に文法形式を覚えるだけでなく、それぞれの品詞や構文がどのような意味を伝達するために使用されるのかを自ら考える機会が設けられる。自分の意思を正確に伝達し、相手の意思を正確に理解するための手段としての規範文法を習得する。
The goal of this class is to build a solid foundation of English grammar. Students will be challenged with a variety of exercises, focusing mainly on understanding basic sentence patterns; correct usage of verbs, auxiliary verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, infinitives, verbal nouns, participles, relations, and articles. This course will also cover understanding of agreement, tense, aspect, and modality. Students will go beyond memorization to consider how grammar conveys meaning. By understanding the function of each part of speech and structure, they will learn to express their own ideas clearly and to accurately interpret the meaning of others. The course emphasizes grammar as a tool for effective communication.

3基礎英文法BBasic Englsih Grammar B英文法トレーニング２ENGLISH GRAMMAR TRAINING 2区分Ⅱ基礎英語Fundamental EnglishII 2001この授業では英文法の基礎力を更に強化することを目標とする。単に文法事項を繰り返すのではなく、基本例を数多く取り上げ、語法、語彙、表現を分かりやすく学習することができる。また各品詞の基本的な問題から発展問題へと段階的に進み、コミュニケーションでは実際にどのように使用・応用されているのか、役立つ例文を演習することで場面や状況を併せて理解する。無理なく楽しく学びながら英文法の基礎知識が身につき、語法に慣れ、英文の基礎的な構成力や読解力、更には作文力をも身につき総合的に英文法並びに英語力を向上させることができるようになる。
The goal of this class is to strengthen learners' basic skills in English grammar. Rather than simply repeating grammatical points, the class will cover a number of basic examples, allowing students to learn the language, vocabulary, and expressions in an easy-to-understand manner. The course progresses step by step from basic questions to advanced questions for each part of speech, and students will learn how they are actually used and applied in communication, as well as understand situations and circumstances through exercises with useful example sentences. Students will acquire basic knowledge of English grammar, become familiar with word usage, and improve their English grammar and English writing skills comprehensively by acquiring basic English sentence structure, reading comprehension, and writing skills while learning in a fun and easy way.

This course aims to help students build a solid foundation in English vocabulary for everyday communication. Students will focus on high-frequency words and phrases that are useful in a variety of common situations. Through a range of activities, they will practice understanding and using these words accurately and appropriately. The course supports students in developing confidence and fluency in their basic English skills.

This course is designed to further expand students’ English vocabulary knowledge beyond the basics. Students will learn a wider range of words and expressions used in more specific topics and situations. Activities will help them understand word meanings, usage, and word-building strategies to enrich their vocabulary. By building on their existing skills, students will develop greater flexibility and confidence in communicating in English.

The goal of this class is to deepen students' understanding of various aspects of English pronunciation—vowels, consonants, stress, rhythm, and intonation—and to practice to acquire a more natural rhythm and pronunciation. Through practice in analytically listening to their own speech, students will develop the ability to recognize and correct their own pronunciation errors. This will help students to become more confident in their own pronunciation and, as a result, to be able to speak in a way that others can better understand them.

The goal of this class is to improve the speaking skills of students at the introductory level of English and to enhance their basic English communication skills. Students will practice conversational English in familiar situations at a simple, everyday level in pairs and groups, and learn to talk about themselves. Along the way, students will develop their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency, and will be able to improve their own English speaking skills.

The goal of this class is to improve the speaking skills of students at the end of introductory to beginner level English, and to further develop their basic English communication skills. Students will practice conversational English on familiar topics in pairs and groups and engage in simple discussions to learn to talk about themselves. Along the way, students will learn to improve their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency.

This class is designed to review and build the foundations of English through balanced practice in the four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course will cover basic pronunciation, accent, intonation, common sentence patterns, grammar, and essential vocabulary. By working with a wide range of simple English texts and activities, students will develop confidence and strengthen their ability to apply English in practical situations. The course also encourages students to reflect on their learning methods and identify ways to improve their English skills.

11英語検定２級Eiken Level 2資格試験英語：英検入門EXAM ENGLISH: INTRODUCTION TO EIKEN区分Ⅱ基礎英語Fundamental EnglishII 2001実用英語技能検定試験（英検）２級を受験する学生を対象に、英語の４技能（聞く・話す・読む・書く）の向上をはかり、２級合格を目指すことを目標とする。この授業では、テキストに沿って問題の演習を行い、正解かどうかをチェックし、文法的な説明や語彙・熟語の説明、読解上の留意点、英作文など文章構成上の重要なポイントの説明などを行う。
The goal of this course is to improve the four skills of English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) for students who wish to take the Practical English Proficiency Test (Eiken) Level 2, and pass it. In this class, students will answer questions from the textbook, check for correctness, and receive explanations concerning grammar, vocabulary and idioms, points to keep in mind in reading comprehension as well as important points in sentence structure and English composition.

TOEIC (R) Beginner B		資格試験英語：TOEIC入門EXAM ENGLISH: INTRODUCTION TO TOEIC区分Ⅱ基礎英語Fundamental EnglishII 2001TOEIC®とは、実践的な英語のコミュニケ－ション能力を測定するための試験である。大学卒業後、英語を使い、企業で活躍するために必要となる英語力を測定することができる。一方、自分自身の英語運用能力を客観的に知り、伸長させるための指標としても利用することができる。試験問題は、リスニング100問、リーディング100問、合計200問を120分で解くことを要求するもので、このクラスでは、この２つの領域の英語力を伸ばすためのスキルを習得し、また、問題傾向、特徴をつかみ、より効果的な学習をする基礎を提供する。この基盤の上に、実際の練習問題を数多くこなすことを通じて、英語の総合的運用能力を高めることを目標とする。取得得点目標は、450～550点とする。
TOEIC® is a test to measure practical English communication skills. It can be used to measure the English language skills needed in the workplace after university graduation. On the other hand, it can also be used as an indicator to objectively know and improve one's own English proficiency. The test requires students to answer 100 listening and 100 reading questions, for a total of 200 questions to be answered in 120 minutes. The class will also provide a foundation for more effective learning by identifying problem trends and characteristics. Based on this foundation, the goal of the course is to improve overall English proficiency through the completion of a large number of actual practice questions. The target score is 450-550 points.

The goal of this class is to provide training for improving discussion and debate skills in English. Even at the level of everyday conversation, there are sometimes elements of discussion and debate, especially when expressing one's own opinions, refuting the ideas of others, or confirming the purpose of others' opinions. In this course, students will develop fluency in speaking English, learn skills to express opinions with precision and respond to complex lines of argument, and learn a variety of specific strategies and expressions used to participate effectively in discussions and debates.

English Presentation 2		英語プレゼンテーション＆スピーチENGLISH PRESENTATION AND SPEECH区分Ⅱ英語の理論と実践English Language: Theory and PracticeII 2001英語でプレゼンテーションをする際の準備の仕方、および実際の発表の仕方を学習することが目標である。聴衆（聞き手）や目的・場面に合わせた準備の仕方、スピーチを書く際の準備の仕方、相手を十分説得できるだけのデータ資料の集め方、発表のときのヴィジュアル（図、写真、資料、さらにパワーポイント使用など）の準備の仕方、ジェスチャー、アイコンタクト、姿勢、ヴォイス･インフレクションなど聴衆を魅了する発表の仕方などを学ぶ。さらにビジネスや学術的な場面を想定して実際に英語のプレゼンテーションを行い、高い英語表現力を身につけることを目指す。
The goal of this course is to learn how to prepare for and actually give a presentation in English. Students will learn how to prepare for different audiences, purposes, and situations; how to prepare a written speech; how to gather enough data to persuade others; how to prepare visuals (diagrams, photos, documents, and PowerPoint presentations); how to use gestures, eye contact, postures, voice inflexion, and other techniques to captivate the audience. Students will also learn how to give presentations in English in a variety of settings such as business and academic situations, and acquire a high level of English expression skills.

This course explores the concept of World Englishes and the role of English as a lingua franca in international communication, examining the diversity and global nature of English. Rather than focusing only on countries where English is a native language, students will learn about how English is used in a wide range of cultural, regional, and social contexts. The course will address a variety of relevant themes and issues. Through a range of learning activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of the diverse forms and functions of English around the world. In addition, the course aims to foster critical perspectives on language, identity, and culture, while also helping students build practical English communication skills for global contexts.

The goal of this course is to improve the four skills of English (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) for students who wish to take the Practical English Proficiency Test (Eiken) Level Pre-1, and to pass it. In this class, students will answer questions from the text, check for correctness, and receive explanations concerning advanced grammar, vocabulary and idioms, points to keep in mind in reading comprehension as well as important points in sentence structure and English composition.

IELTS ®		資格試験英語：TOEFL＆IELTSEXAM ENGLISH: TOEFL & IELTS区分Ⅱ英語の理論と実践English Language: Theory and PracticeII 2001この授業は、英語圏の大学・大学院への進学を目指す学生を対象に、TOEFL®およびIELTSの試験対策を目的とする。試験形式や設問タイプを理解し、得点力を高めるための効果的な学習方法を身につけるとともに、自分の弱点を補強しながら、4技能（読む・聞く・話す・書く）を総合的に向上させる。授業では、実際の出題形式に即した演習やサンプル分析を行い、それをもとにスピーチやエッセイを作成・提出する。また、留学先で必要となる語彙力・文法力を強化し、講義内容の理解、課題文書の読解、ディスカッションでの発言、レポート作成といったアカデミックな場面に対応できる英語力を養成する。試験対策にとどまらず、留学先で求められる実践的な英語力の習得を目指し、「大意と詳細の速く正確な理解」や「多少のミスがあっても意図を正しく伝える力」の育成を重視する。課題提出、予習・復習も必須で、継続的な努力が求められる内容である。
This course is designed for students aiming to study at universities or graduate schools in English-speaking countries. It prepares students for the TOEFL® and IELTS exams by covering both test formats, question types, and effective strategies to achieve their target scores. Emphasis is placed on identifying and strengthening individual weak areas across all four skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Students will practice answering actual test-style questions, analyze sample responses, and engage in repeated cycles of speaking and writing assignments. They will also build a solid foundation in vocabulary and grammar essential for academic contexts, such as understanding lectures, reading assignments, participating in discussions, and writing essays or reports. In addition to test-taking techniques, the course fosters the practical English skills needed to succeed in study abroad settings—accurately comprehending main ideas and details, and expressing ideas clearly and appropriately, even when minor errors are present. Regular homework, preparation, and review are required to maximize improvement and readiness.

English Translation Intermediate		通訳英語ENGLISH INTERPRETATION区分Ⅱ英語の理論と実践English Language: Theory and PracticeII 3002本授業では、通訳理論の概観と通訳技術の基礎的な訓練を通じて、日英・英日双方向における逐次通訳の能力を養成する。一般的な内容に加え、専門的な内容にも対応できる力を育てることを目標とし、同時通訳の初歩的演習も取り入れる。また、訓練を通して総合的な英語運用能力の向上も図る。通訳理論に関する講義:ゼミ形式を基本とし、通訳研究に関する基礎文献を講読・発表する。通訳訓練法や理論、研究対象、実務上の課題などを扱い、教員と学生の対話やディスカッションを通じて理解を深める。実践的な通訳訓練: 様々な訓練法（パブリックスピーキング、リピーティング、サイトトランスレーション、クイックレスポンス、語彙テスト等）を用いて通訳技術を磨く。単なる直訳ではなく、話し手の意図や意味をまとまりごとに把握し、聞き手に分かりやすく伝える力を養う。本授業を通じて、実践的な通訳能力とともに、異文化間コミュニケーションにおいて効果的に機能する通訳力を身につけることを目指す。
This course provides an overview of interpreting theory and offers foundational training in interpreting techniques to develop students’ ability to perform consecutive interpretation in both Japanese-to-English and English-to-Japanese. The course aims to build the skills necessary for interpreting both general and specialized content, while also enhancing overall English proficiency. Introductory exercises in simultaneous interpretation will also be included. Lectures on Interpreting Theory: Conducted in a seminar format, students will read and present on core literature in interpreting studies. Through presentations, discussions, and interactive dialogue, students will deepen their understanding of topics such as interpreting methodologies, training theories, research areas, and the practical challenges of interpretation. Practical Interpreting Training: Using a range of professional training methods, students will develop core interpreting skills. Activities include public speaking, repeating, sight translation, quick response drills, transcription of bilingual broadcast materials, recitation of famous speeches, and vocabulary-building exercises. Emphasis is placed on conveying the speaker’s intended meaning and message clearly and accurately, not simply translating words. By the end of the course, students will have improved both their interpreting proficiency and their ability to facilitate effective cross-cultural communication.

Language in Society B		社会言語学LANGUAGE IN SOCIETY区分Ⅱ英語の理論と実践English Language: Theory and PracticeII 3002社会言語学は、言語と文化が個人の有する知識を越えて、それを話す人々が共有するリソースであり、その人々が属する様々な集団と切り離して考えることはできないという考えに基づいている。すなわち言語と社会との関係から言語を考えることが主題である。この授業で目指すのは、様々なミクロかつマクロな場面や状況で、言語と社会的・文化的要素が切り離せない関係にあることを理解し、社会言語学のアプローチを用いて、実際の言語データを分析し、言語と社会、言語と文化の関係性を国際的な視野を持って考察できるようになることである。
Sociolinguistics is based on the idea that language and culture are resources shared by the people who speak them, beyond the knowledge possessed by individuals, and that they cannot be considered separately from the various groups to which they belong. In other words, the subject matter of this course is to consider language in relation to society. The goal of this course is to help students understand the inseparable relationship between language and social and cultural elements in various micro and macro situations and circumstances, to analyze actual linguistic data using a sociolinguistic approach, and to be able to consider the relationship between language and society and between language and culture from an international perspective. (CK: Added "between" to avoid the seeming polysyndeton with three "and"s in a row.) The course is designed to provide students with an international perspective on the relationship between language and society, and language and culture. Even people of the same nationality may have different cultural backgrounds, and it is fair to say that most of our daily communication is cross-cultural communication. In addition, just being able to speak English is not always enough to communicate smoothly with people from other countries. Intercultural communication skills are necessary. In this class, students will develop an open mind and attitude toward people from different cultural backgrounds, which is the foundation of intercultural communication, and heighten self-awareness, by examining information about one's own culture and other cultures, and using theories of intercultural communication to deepen intercultural understanding.

English for Global Citizens B		国際人のための英語ENGLISH FOR GLOBAL CITIZENS区分Ⅱ内容で学ぶ英語English Through ContentII 3002このコースの目的は、身の回りの世界への意識を高めることで、グローバル市民としての在り方を学ぶことである。これには、グローバル市民としての権利、責任、そして直面する課題について理解を深めることが含まれる。コースでは、民主主義、人権、グローバリゼーション、ソーシャルメディア、AI など、グローバル市民として重要なテーマを探求する。授業では、トピックの概要、最新の事例研究、インタラクティブなディスカッション課題、そしてテーマの理解を支える役立つ語彙を取り扱う。さらに、学生は論理的推論、論証、批判的思考、問題解決、意思決定などの幅広いスキルも身につける。
The goal of this course is to learn how to become a global citizen by increasing awareness of the world around you. This includes developing an understanding of the rights, responsibilities, and challenges of global citizenship. The course will explore themes that are crucial to being a global citizen such as democracy, human rights, globalization, social media, and AI. Lessons will include topic overviews, recent case studies, interactive discussion tasks, and useful vocabulary to support student understanding of the themes. Students will also develop a range of useful skills including reasoning, argumentation, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.

The aim of this course is to develop English communication and comprehension skills as well as develop a better understanding of Western culture through drama. Over the course of the semester, we will study dramatic works in English via the reading of texts and the watching of videos. During the viewing and reading, students are expected to take notes and answer comprehension, vocabulary and listening questions, as well as other tasks related to performing in English. After this, students are expected to contribute to group performances with other students.

English and Culture through Media		ポップカルチャーで学ぶ英語と文化ENGLISH AND CULTURE THROUGH POPULAR CULTURE区分Ⅱ内容で学ぶ英語English Through ContentII 2002この授業では、映画・演劇・音楽・アート・新聞・雑誌などのポピュラーカルチャーを通じて、英語の４技能（聞く・話す・読む・書く）を総合的に高めることを目指す。英語圏の多様なメディアに触れることで、異文化理解を深め、現代社会の問題やその歴史的・文化的背景について考察する。映画やニュースの視聴、音楽やアート作品の分析、記事の速読、ディスカッション、レポートや映画・音楽評の作成などを行う。ポピュラーカルチャーを学びの素材として活用し、楽しみながら実践的・アカデミックな英語力と批判的思考力を養う授業である。
This course aims to develop all four English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) through popular culture such as film, theater, music, art, newspapers, and magazines. By engaging with diverse media from English-speaking countries, students will deepen their intercultural understanding and explore contemporary social issues along with their historical and cultural contexts. Activities include watching films and news clips, analyzing music and artworks, speed reading articles, participating in discussions, and writing reports or film/music reviews. Using popular culture as both a learning tool and a topic of inquiry, students will build practical and academic English skills while enhancing critical thinking in an enjoyable and engaging way.

Students will read literary works written in English to enhance their knowledge and sensitivity to the English language and its expressions, as well as to deepen their understanding of the culture of English-speaking countries. An overview of literature written in English will be given, focusing on works of various genres by various authors, written in plain English as much as possible, in accordance with certain themes. Students will learn basic methods of appreciation, analysis and criticism, and will also explore the historical and social background of the works. Students will also learn basic literary terminology necessary for analysis and criticism. By comparing the world of the works with their own experiences, students will be able to see things from a broader perspective, enrich their minds, and reflect on society, life, and themselves. Students will also acquire English language skills, especially advanced reading skills.

This course is designed for those preparing to study abroad and aims to develop the English skills needed to communicate effectively in academic, social, and cultural settings. Through the integration of the four core skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—students will engage with a variety of real-world topics relevant to life and learning in an international environment. Class activities will include listening to authentic audio-visual materials, reading and discussing related texts, and participating in pair or group tasks to build confidence and fluency. Toward the end of the course, students will take part in role-plays and discussions on situations they may encounter during their time abroad, helping them prepare for successful and meaningful intercultural experiences.
