Notes about the annual budget on the next tab
3
1This spreadsheet has evolved over many versions and is what works for me and my family on a personal basis, I hope it is useful for you.
4
2Add/remove/change sections and spend types as needed. For example: you may want to change mortgage for rent, add 'gas' in the energy section, remove or add spending for no/more/less children, or add income lines such as rent, solar rebates, cashing out dividends.
5
3It is helpful in the 'A' column next to recurring spending to put in the date the direct debit / bil is due to keep track throughout a month.
6
4Spend in blue is consistent monthly spend, such as a mobile phone plan - of course this number can be adjusted at points in time if the cost of the plan(s) change.
7
5After numbers have been inputed it can look cleaner to delete the $0's that are not needed.
8
6All the formulas should automatically update in this current format - pls check them if you make changes to the spreadsheet.
9
7Create a new version of the sheet as a new tab for future financial years, so you have a clean view of each financial year for every financial year you use it for.
10
8I've chosen financial year as the starting month as most Australian companies work on financial year, but you can easily change the starting month to suit your needs.
11
9Suggest filling in rows 89 and 90 last (the investment rows). To understand how much you have to invest you need to know what you're spending and naturally have left over. By understanding what the year ahead looks like it is much easier to set, and you're much more likely to achieve, your savings / investing goals.
12
11By laying everything out in black and white it becomes obvious what needs to change (cut, optimise etc) if you want do something like paying down credit card debt or investing more.
13
12Obligatory statement: nothing in this spreadsheet is personal advice, do what works for you, seek professional advice before making decisions, etc.
