Do you write for other fandoms/ships too? What sparks your interest to write?Anonymous29 Apr 2025don’t laugh but i used to until kjy happened and now my brain just wants to write her all the time it’s terrible! i did use to write for other fandoms in the past, though - for kpop snsd / rv / itzy and some other groups, for non-kpop the kyoshi novels and some games here and there (though these were never posted). these days i’m actually in a constant state of wanting to write but not having the time to lmao the first half of 2025 is so crazy busy for me it’s not funny!! (also bc of gwigoong) things should settle down in the later half of the year so i hope to get time to write then 🥹

but as to what usually sparks my interest to write - i don’t think i can give a definite answer bc it’s often really arbitrary. it could be an oomf coming into my dms with sudden brainrot, seeing an old clip or old pic on the tl, watching / reading stuff and abruptly getting inspiration. for ongoing fics it's usually when i see something that reminds me of it and i'm like ooh i kind of want to pick that fic up again...lots of things have been reminding me of soulbound lately 😭🙏

hi!! I have a bit of a dilemma when it comes to writing and tenses (going/went, walking/walked). I know you write in present tense but when I try to it just sounds kind of weird?? i think it's also one of those things where if you read it for too long it starts sounding crazy lol. but I've read a ton of crazy good fics, both present and past tense. i was just wondering how u settled on present tense. like, did it come more naturally that way?Anonymous08 Apr 2025hello!! some of my old fics are actually in past tense too bc i read and wrote a lot in past tense growing up and it was what felt natural to me + it was hard to kick the habit. i think the more you write in present tense the more you'll get used to it! when i first tried it it was mostly for the sake of trying something new and it did feel a little odd to me at first (there were places here and there i accidentally slipped back into past tense lol) but once my brain got used to it it became my personal preference!....tmi but i have an old incomplete rv fic on qaisal that bothers me occasionally (it's not a super old fic but i wrote it as a gift for a friend who preferred past tense) bc it's incomplete and i've opened the last chapter's doc several times with the intention of finishing it but i never manage to bc it's like. who is this! this is not me anymore 😭

objectively i will say past vs. present shouldn't have a story-changing impact, writers should be able to immerse their reader in the story and feel the intimacy / immediacy of every moment regardless of past vs. present. personally i think i tend to read more books in past tense but more fics in present tense. if i think about it more - a story in past tense to me feels like a retrospective retelling of a story that's already been completed. looking through the books i've read recently in past tense, there are some lines that are less from the protag's pov and more omniscient i.e. "unbeknownst to her, she felt this / she was doing this / this was happening in the background..." whereas in present, it's more like you're watching the story unfold before the protag's eyes. things that are unknown to the protag might not be explicitly written in the story e.g. something might happen, but the protag wouldn't have knowledge of how/why it is happening or...might not even notice it (and so it'd be unknown to the reader as well until whenever the protag actually does notice it). when writing fic, this is the narrative style i prefer to go for, especially bc my fics center around a romantic dynamic between two characters that might not know each other well, might puzzle over each other's actions, etc. rather than telling the reader things other than the protag's pov that's going on, i'd prefer if they read between the lines and piece it together with the protag as the story develops. rather than "while the protag wasn't looking, A happened", it's way more fun to me if readers are like "could it be A? could it be B? omg it must be A"

or, yknow. i might be completely off the mark. and obv you can tell the story purely from the protag's eyes in past tense too if you wish. but this is my personal reasoning & stylistic preference and i do feel like present tense suits it more! writer oomfs if you have other reasons why you prefer a certain tense i'm interested to hear them 👀

the boring but honest answer is 1. a lot of reading 2. a lot of practice there's really no way around it! you can read whatever you want - books, fics from other fandoms (we don't have a whole lot). through reading you'll be able to piece together what kind of writing style you like or don't like and emulate more of what you like in your own writing. for what you don't like, how would you write it differently? i don't get as much time nowadays to read as i'd like but i read a lottt when i was young and it really helped writing feel more intuitive and natural for me. consuming media also helps - much of the action in soulbound is inspired by...bits and pieces of different video games lmfao. action is actually weirdly easy for me to write and i think it might be because of gaming funnily enough 😭

ok sorry getting back on track: practice even if you don't think you're good enough. it is very normal to feel like you're not good enough and i promise even established writers feel this way! i personally consider my first few fics (not on qaisal. buried somewhere in the void of the internet like they should be) to be abysmal, but if i hadn't written them & stopped there bc i didn't think i was good enough (i actually did not feel this way at the time. i thought i was pretty good at the blissfully ignorant age of 15. but now if i ever saw those fics in front of me again i'd burn them) then i'd never get to where i am today! when you look back at your old fics, if there are parts you cringe at, that can be a good thing - how would you do it differently in the next fic you write? i think one of the best things you can do for your writing is to not be afraid to suck honestly. even writers with experience fall prey to it too - i think it was the main thing triggering my writer's block after in this moment now, where i was feeling pressured to match up to its hype & second guessing everything i tried to write. after a while i got tired of myself and was like fuck it and put pen to paper and wrote the first thing that came to mind and bit by bit soulbound was born. (tbh i think in this moment now was also created in a "fuck it" moment come to think of it??)

I guess pining and emotional constipation are given 😭 My observation though the common theme is the concept of getting rest/comfort from a person. KJY saying “You were my bright spot through endless schedules and long hours in the practice room” to KHJ in the fansite au and then in the exbbo fic, Sojung became the person Jiyeon sought out when princess duties becomes hard. In "wherever you stray (i follow)", it's Jiyeon who has to tell Sojung to rest and take it easy and then actually does help her by taking on some of her responsibilities.

Sorry for the essay haha		Anonymous02 Mar 2025omg never apologise for essays 🫵 i love essays, the longer the better! i don't think i've been as intentional with this one as i have been with writing pining but it does make sense bc i do like portrayals of relationships that feel like you're coming home to the other person, having the other person as your muse / inspiration / respite etc. i think it's also a natural consequence of

1. writing pining and emotional constipation and needing the comfort as a balm to balance that out (i'm also kind of a fan of characters subconsciously thinking of the other as their respite but not even knowing it / not even knowing they've fallen...)
2. writing wjsn canon-compliant / idolverse. the wujus have talked about their struggles especially around & pre-debut and any canon-compliance touching on that period of uncertainty would have to have some degree of hurt/comfort i feel

Honestly speaking from my perspective, I've always really liked the girls' discography but when I read In This Moment Now (Capture It, Remember It) I felt really comforted by the healthy dynamic you were able to develop with Seolbo so I'm really invested in it for a while now. Your way of writing really captivated me and I really wanted to write something about Seolbo but I'm very shy and have a lack of self-esteemAnonymous28 Feb 2025you should try anyway, everyone has to start somewhere! personally i cringe thinking about the first ever fic i wrote many years ago lol (it's not on qaisal) and it was only through more and more practice that i got to a place where i was happy with my writing. and even then sometimes i look at my first draft of something and i'm like "this is dogshit" so if you ever feel discouraged about what you're writing or think that it's bad, congrats and welcome to the club! it's very much part of the process. and if you're shy, ao3 has the option to post anonymously too~ the wjsn tag could definitely always use more writers, you'd be very welcome in the fic scene!

hello! how did you learn korean?Anonymous01 Jan 2025learned the basics in uni and did a mix of self-study / formal learning after! with every language it’s best to immerse yourself in it - watch a lot of media in that language, try not to be too reliant on subtitles etc. actual practice was always the best bc it helped me remember what i learned & pick up new vocab! you can find bits of media that have existing translations, translate them yourself (no matter how long it takes or how painful it might be - each time you practise you’ll know a little more, get a little faster), then compare your translations to the existing ones. talking to native speakers also helps a lot - luckily enough i had krn friends who could help me practise! and subscribing to the wujus’ bbls also helped lmao bc you get used to how native speakers type, slang, memes, etc

language learning (and translating) is a commitment though - i’ve definitely had significantly less time to write this year bc i had to work on tling or studying. but at the end of the day i think it’s worth the investment for anyone! even if you decide to learn just a bit, there will always be nuances in language and the speaker’s voice that translations can’t fully convey (especially official subs that just capture general meaning and might not explain everything like some fan tls do) and it’s a big advantage to be able to understand the original language

hi!! how do you do your research for canon compliant fics? do you just remember/take down notes when you watch content or do you intentionally go and watch content from that periodAnonymous24 Nov 2024it’s just based on things i remember hehe and sometimes i’ll go back to watch specific content to get exact wording! my brain tends to remember kind of odd niche things (and not important things like…actual things i need to do for the day) & the wujus make it really easy by having insane stories to tell. one of the stories that got me interested in them in the first place was when an ujung oomf tweeted about exy laughing and in the process biting dayoung’s head so hard it bled and she had to go to the ER. i was like ?????? and oomf was just nonchalant about it bc “yeah shit like this happens all the time in wjsn”. ++ another reason why writing canon compliant for wjsn is fun: sometimes you’ve gotta do detective work and piece together their stories yourself ESPECIALLY with unnie line e.g. sb’s csat / “seola unnie’s house” story resurgence recently. like we literally got each part of the story over the course of how many years? at most one part given to us per year because that’s just how sb operates with each other.

also for me the brainrot about specific incidents/stories writes the fic instead of the other way round! i have tried to do it the other way in the past for other groups - wanting to write about a certain period and then going to research about it - but almost always lost motivation or interest halfway. i think wjsn is the first group i’ve actually genuinely wanted to write canon compliant for - and oomf (lettie) has echoed this too

Anonymous28 Oct 2024for me what helped the most learning a non-native language was still hyperfixating on it and consuming as much media as possible 😅 what about c-dramas don’t you like? kjy csj sjy have recommended quite a few chinese movies in the past, you can try those maybe since they won’t require as much of a time commitment as dramas? i just rewatched soulmate with zhou dongyu the other day (whom kjy loves)….heinous little movie

you can also look up chinese gl manhuas and try to read them in their original language if you’re interested! my friend was really into gl manhwa so that’s how she’d improve her krn at first - by reading in korean and looking up vocab she didn’t know even if one chapter took forever. for manhuas with existing translations another idea is to translate them yourself and compare your work to the translation!

Do you have any hope for any type of WJSN comeback?Anonymous12 Oct 2024yes but not right now as they’re focused on individual activities which imo is a sensible thing to do (building up individual careers for career longevity) bc no group can realistically continuously promote forever. we know they also want to do group promos again and csj has said before that they want to be a long-lasting group like apink so “wjsn is never coming back” is not a fear at the forefront of my mind rn. i think they will do group promos again in the future, just not right now while they’re focused on building their individual careers

disclaimer i might also start sounding insane here and i hope to god this does not get out of writing twt but i do have thoughts on this. see the fun for me in writing kjy pairings is writing a 0 who acts like a 1 / thinks they’re a 1 if you’re familiar with the terminology lol. like you can definitely see why people might see her as a 1 because of the fire in her personality—which tends to flare up in group settings (read: just wjsn)—and because she is adept at playing cool doting unnie, and because of her assertiveness especially around the more passive members in the group who’ll just let her do anything she wants (taller members of the group just letting jiyeon manhandle them……..white noise). but i think the key with kjy is that ultimately she is 100% a receiver—don’t get me wrong, she’s an adept giver, but 1. it’s obvious how over the moon she gets when she’s the one being doted on / babied 2. 583748 instances of her saying 사랑받기 (receiving love) over 사랑주기 (giving love) 3. “if given the choice i’d want to be the youngest in wjsn”, “enjoying being the youngest in my family ☺️”, calling herself baby princess and anything equivalent CMON 4. if you’ve read her bbl / pm…….Any One Time she talks about an unnie. just pick any one.

so yes i do agree with her being “in-charge” of the dynamic in general and i do incorporate that in my fics but! it’s also very very fun to write moments where the control slips away from her. i also think ships where she gets to be a brat (possibly nothing gives kjy greater joy) + ships where the other half is physically bigger than her (even if slight) and (as i keep quoting oomf) her fiery menace energy gets indignantly quashed are top-tier. think kjy going “i’m not small 🤬” and sjy towering over her patting her head and cooing “okay unnie” while kjy fumes futilely in her arms. (frequent canon event) kjy pairings like these give me great joy and i tend to (only) go for these if you look at my roster. eunbo i will finish the fic i have for you someday…

(small text: this was a very roundabout way to say i am a power bottom kjy believer. literally how could she be anything else) for legal purposes i am joking

another angle with the predator/prey dynamic is looking at it in a wanting her so bad it makes them feral way which is fun to think about + then luda would make sense to me here as well. just look at how insane most bborangdans are. she’s kinda all-consuming

hello!! quick question, in the cc archiver (https://github.com/Fwuffie/CuriousCatArchiver) it says the following arguments are required: Username if i try to run the program but i'm not sure what to change to my usernameAnonymous04 Oct 2024hi! you can follow this tutorial (https://x.com/sunhawked/status/1841433503327723606) - the github one is in the mac tutorial in Option 2 > step 6, you have to add your username as a command-line argument. though i'd really recommend option 1 instead because even if the program breaks with an error in the middle (as it probably will due to curiouscat's api instability), you'd still get part of your data (aka whatever the program managed to retrieve so far). option 2 won't - it'll only give you your complete data if it manages to finish running.

the windows tutorial only has option 1 bc i figured some users might have trouble with the command-line argument (not an uncommon windows coding problem if you've just downloaded python).

i mean. i think so too (obviously) she is a very fun person to write for me if not i would've stopped a long time ago...do you mean the different ways she interacts & the dynamics she has with different people because i do agree! like for starters it's very fun seeing the different sides of unnie kjy vs dongsaeng/막내딸 (as she says) kjy. i was saying to oomf the other day that yes kjy does play the part of cool unnie very well but it's so obvious how over the moon she is when she gets to fall into brat/menace/babygirlisms lmao... another thing about her is that people tend to view her as very consistent, unshakeable, unafraid to confront feelings head-on, unafraid to approach first etc etc. which yes, some of these things she's said she is before. so it's very fun to pit her against people with whom she's...not? i think there are just a handful of eng fics for them too which might be why.. exes is always a fun trope but for them i prefer something more along the lines of: ambiguous relationship, boundaries blurring, feelings unspoken or maybe even unrealised till it's too late (and maybe not even then! maybe it only hits one or both of them when they reunite), regret and longing from a distance, them moving on but having a special place for each other in their hearts................yeah

also the idea of wxy falling first vs kjy just reserving unusual fondness in her heart for her and not thinking much else of it -> after they part, wxy trying and eventually succeeding in moving on, seeing other people -> kjy getting softer and nostalgic in recent years and finding herself missing her (this actually being canon. i hate it here) and reaching out -> they reunite after all those years and it creeps up on kjy slowly then hits her like a truck

i already have a few lines down this is so terrible… 😭🤚 i said to oomf “imagine them together after all these years, kjy with her rusty chinese and wxy with her rusty korean” “the language barrier would be so fun to write” and oomf said “ok so why don’t you” and i think that’s all it took tbh….

it’s funny bc back when boxuan were at their peak (all over each other) if i had been an ujung then i don’t think i would’ve had much interest in writing them? i’m sure most people know by now that that’s not really the type of ship i gravitate to but now where we are in the current timeline if you factor in: 1. notoriously busy and introverted homebody kjy reaching out first after they hadn’t seen each other in Years? and 2. the contrast between how touchy they used to be around each other vs. the awkwardness of not having seen each other for so long, remembering old habits and relearning new ones, clumsily falling back into their old rhythm etc etc would be fun to play around with

this is a long roundabout way of saying yes i am writing boxuan. idk how long it will be (maybe it’s time to revive my shortfic pseud finally) but it is happening		0

you worded it perfectly though exbbo and birthdays really are so intertwined god……..and thank you very much!! 🥹 i don’t really know tbh the scene came pretty naturally, it was fun to pair bits of exbbo’s dynamic (1. jiyeon dragging and ordering sojung around even though she’s. tinier and sojung just letting her each time 2. playful teasing jiyeon vs sojung grumbling……cue that one uzzu tape etched into my brain) with the knight x princess trope. and what’s any royal au without a good old clandestine close dancing scene!!

it was especially fun to write the reluctant pining across the ballroom and describe each one of jiyeon’s dance partners through sojung’s eyes though i must say		0

i learned some of it in uni for about a year and the rest is self-learning!! i think the best way to go about it is - after learning basic grammar points practise as much as you can? whether it’s watching krn media or following korean people on socmed and trying to tl it yourself without relying on subs and picking up more grammar points and vocab that way. nothing beats actual practice~ if you’re able to attend physical classes so you can get speaking practice in too that will be even better
