Select the cell you want to add comments to. Then choose Insert --> Comment
Add some text to capture what you did that month. Click on Comment to lock it in.

On subsequent months, DO NOT create a new comment! Instead, hover over the cell, click on the vertical ellipses (3 dots), and choose Edit (so it all stays visible in one comment).
