Overview
17
StrengthsNotes
18
ControlHe is methodical, patient, maintains a low center of gravity, and always seems to gain additional yardage. He shrugs off contact extremely well for only weighing 210lbs, and his vision up the gut is phenomenal. His percentage of net negative plays at the next level should be extremely low.
19
Contact BalanceIt is easy to see how he had 4.35 yards after contact per attempt this last season on 7.4 yards per carry.
20
Single-Step CutsWhether in the backfield or out in space, his single step cuts are sudden and often make defenders miss regardless of how much space there is to operate.
21
22
WeaknessesNotes
23
Top-End SpeedLacks top-end speed. A good combine showing will surely help his draft stock.
24
Receiving ProductionIn 2022, he saw two targets to his 146 carries. This last season, he had 141 yards on 22 receptions. He is crisp as a route runner, fluid when catching the football, and a good pass protector, but lacks experience as a receiver in the passing game.
25
TwitchHe is not an explosive outside zone runner who can accelerate in an instant and make a home run play.

Kentucky (10/28/2023)Rushing: 11-120-1
Receiving: 1-2-0
Patient. Stays low through the hole. Nice subtle open field dead leg. Lacks top-end speed. Extremely controlled and shifty. Subtle shifts make defenders miss in a phone booth. Great foot speed and hip depth in the backfield. Can gain additional yards out of nothing. 2nd-3rd round tape.

Texas A&M (10/14/2023)Rushing: 19-136-0

Really nice contact balance. Good two-step acceleration. Open field single-step cuts are crazy. Backfield vision and navigation are exceptional. Highly patient with low hips and center of gravity. Downhill runner. Excellent and consistent vision play after play.3rd round tape.

Georgia (11/18/2023)Rushing: 9-90-1
Receiving: 0-0-0
Long speed appears better than earlier in the season. Good pass protector. Suboptimal bend. Good play recognition when reading the blitz. Very decent route. Could be utilized more in the passing game in the NFL. Balance when colliding with teammates is something he can improve throughout his tape. Subtle cuts in open space are remarkable. Very good pass protector.

Final Scouting Report:
34
Jaylen Wright is a highly patient and methodical runner. His vision is beyond superb, and he understands when to cut in the backfield. His elusiveness, footwork, and low center of balance help him to gain additional yardage on nearly every play. His yards per carry, yards after contact, and missed tackles forced per attempt numbers are exceptional, leading to Wright finishing with the highest draft grade of any halfback in this class. In the passing game, his production may be lacking, but he has shown everything on tape in that Tennessee system that he needed to instill confidence in his third down skill set. He is a tremendous pass protector at only 20-years-old by the end of his final collegiate season, and should only improve physically and technically over his first couple of seasons in the NFL. Wright may not be the flashiest or most explosive running back, but he has the vision, build, and footwork to become an excellent every down back in the NFL.

Pro Comp:
37
Zack Moss. Moss is a bit more compact, but Wright has better vision and footwork in the open field.
